THE HEART OF AWARENESS - ASHTAVAKRA GITA - TRANSLATION BY THOMAS BYROM - audiobook - lomakayu

- This is a very different translation of one of Ramana Maharshi's most favored books the the previous version. From here on this will be noted in the title heading. In this version Thomas Byrom has done away with the literary device of a dialogue between King Janaka and Ashtavakra and made it an uninterrupted sharing of his wisdom. I believe there is no right version or wrong version, since everyone of us in our listening or reading experiences the teaching in our own unique way. Each translation offers it own gift. I am going to next do the earliest complete english translation completed in 1907 by Lala Baij Nath.

LOMAKAYU, you are such a gift to us all. Bless you for your patience to read all these sacred texts for us. And of course with such deep soul and skill. The first step is listening and these texts were meant to be recited, even when they were no longer just oral transmissions, but written texts. Here we are all listening together. And, you know, there is a sound that strikes the heart just right -- in perfect causes and conditions -- and dissolves the ego in an instant. That sound is out there looking for you, friends. And when you hear it the universe inside your head will crack open and you will escape it's bony shell. May all beings be free.
The simplest and yet the greatest spiritual book that has ever been written! Thank you for sharing this wonderful audio

How do you know
"gi-TAH" isn't the corrected pronunciation?

It is innate endless fascination and search for the truth The Self is never going to end till we take myriad births and deaths when we Be The Self then only it stops So Lomakayu my deep gratitude to you for speeding out our inward journey towards The Self
Exteme beauty within! Im calling best content on awareness, here. Wow❤
"I am this body" is the source of all our suffering. From it, the perception that "This is mine" also comes. These two are the root cause of all of our suffering. When we understand that "I am the consciousness (consciousness=self=god=awareness=soul=brammam) that exists in all creatures. I am birthless and consequently deathless", all of our sorrows will disappear. This is the essence of ashtavakra Gita.

I'm reminded of St Francis understanding in that; " What we are looking for is what is looking ". Yes, this thing called life is truly an amazing miracle. Every thing in this world looks to be dancing to some sort of un-heard music, but no one has found the conductor....lol.
Thanks for sharing, good reading!
The conductor is the song of life is the silence in which the music is soaked; saturated in silence the song is pure light, dancing in stillness the moon in the night.

Who writes this and how?
@@jshdhdyjfjdjfhfyyene731 this is ancient Hindu book. It's about King janaka and sage astavarka.
@@roh-mj6em being a rhetorical question when knowing the self is emptiness how can the Ashtavakra Gita be uttered never mind written?!
@@jshdhdyjfjdjfhfyyene731 why can't it be.
I found out about this book listening to one of Swami Sarvapriyananda who I love to listen to. Frankly, I can’t get enough of hearing about what and who I am.
Same with me
And who you are not.
I get it. But you can only be what you are, you can't hear about it. You can only hear about what you aren't. What you are can't be spoken, only experienced. Hearing what a hamburger tastes like is not the taste of a hamburger, like hearing about sadness is not the feeling of sadness. Be what you are. Be. Be Nothing.
Thank you. I love your voice. You feel it. You know it. I get it. Thank you again.
How tremendous is the Ashtavakra Gita and so beautifully translated and recited.. my heartfelt gratitude.. I bought the book by Thomas Byrom, but the way you have rendered this is so very simply heart-touching! Pranam!

Heart of Awareness was introduced by swami sarvapriyananda when he gave talks on parts of Ashtavakra.
He had said you can take any shloka in Heart of Awareness and go deep in meditation with it.

I Am
Jaaaaaaaaaaai shri Krishna.
Highest Wisdom of humanity
Geeeeze, it’s really potent
Aware of awareness.
Om Namah Shivaya
I think therefore I am. I am therefore there is that which is. Awareness is after all, to be experienced, known. The Absolute is a diversified unity that actualizes as a unified diversity or uni-verse. We are the infinite rays of the one sun of being/awareness, the eternal mystery, the one that is also two. Only being can experience awareness. Only awareness can experience being. What is it that experiences being and awareness? Being aware of being aware, wherein perceiver, perceiving and perceived are one. This is the experience of that I am which is prior to what I am or who I am. This is the priceless pearl of inner wholeness, the nothing in particular that is everything in general (potential). Thus centered in the eternity of infinite potential, all things are possible. This is the heart or essence of fulfillment : that I am is a movement and a rest, the rythym and pulse of life eternal, the all in one in all, the one Absolute Being in which all relative beings live, move and have their being. What appears as separateness or division is in reality the wholeness of the One without a second, expressed as extension: innermost being ( presence), midmost awareness, outermost experience. Awareness and experience are thus the two eternal poles of the infinite continuum of being/life, converting experience into awareness (realization) and converting awareness into experience ( dreaming our experience, experiencing our dream-actualization) to experience completion of joy in form, which is fulfillment.
In other words what I am is not a concept. I am that which is.
The world is a mirror, not an illusion, otherwise the innermost being would be as illusory as the outermost body. More, it is a magic mirror for it always faithfully reflects back to us in our experience whatever we are convinced of.
That I am is free of what or who. Being aware of being aware is beyond identity, pure experience of that which is.
If God makes all things and all things are illusions then God is a pretender who makes nothing. Beyond nothing is the eternal experience of being aware of being aware, of here, now and this. Sleep, sit, walk, appreciate, enjoy.
Nothing in particular is by definition everything in general (potential).
I am something, I am nothing, I am everything.
Imagination also is that which is. We are life to an unknowable extent.
What we are empty of is separateness. What we are full of is interrelatedness.
Some are passionately dispassionate. It is usually best to not let the tail wag the dog. We are a movement and a rest. We are not either/or. We are both/and.
The eternal mystery is how the One without a second can be one yet two? Only being can experience awareness. Only awareness can experience being. The answer is that being aware of being aware is three in one=perceiver, perceiving and perceived are the same, no division. What appears as division is in reality extension. Wholeness extends itself in the abundance of its joy. The diversified unity of the Absolute actualizes as the unified diversity or uni-verse.
Nothing is an experience not a concept. We cannot know anything by knowing the name, label or concept for it. We only know what we actually experience. Thus nothing is and is not. What else is there to say?
At 44:40 in this video, it says "first I gave up action...", what does this truly mean?
If one gives up action, how does one function in this world to accomplish tasks?
Thanks in advance.
Is being aware of being aware the same as the thought-feeling I AM?
@@realfacts7763 Through the doing-not doing paradoxical nature of the real. This is beyond the minds ken that is used to duality and distinction. You must surrender all thoughts, at the root of which is the primal "I" thought. When you experience the unreality of the ego and open yourself up to the nondual side of experience, you realise that nothing has any real purpose and everything is immersed in the ocean of bliss. You can do things without doing only when you are detached from the outcomes of your actions. You cannot trick yourself into something like this. Your heart must know that you are beyond everything and that there is nothing to gain or lose.
@@Vlad-wl3fw being aware of being aware would be the same as a meditation on the I am. You are always aware and you always are. But are you always aware that you are?

Thanks for offering this Gita, Lomakayu! At 47:30 of this video, it states ".....in sleep I am awake, I think of things without thinking....."
Can you please explain these statements? I'm somewhat new to spirituality and confused by these statements. Anyone else can also explain if they really understand.
Much appreciated and thank you in advance!
Something in you knows that you have slept.(sometimes you just relax, and you know for certain that you didn't sleep. Sometimes you know for certain that you indeed slept.)
That means what you really are is alway awake, it even knows that deep sleep happens to the bodymind.
We are in the same place that we have always been having never moved or experienced anything except in our imagination. Atman and Christ are two words meaning our awareness. The book of the Revelation of Jesus Christ to St John means exactly what it says it means and has nothing to do with the world outside of ourselves but is about realizing that the world we see is an appearance within ourselves, within our consciousness. The Eastern philosophy given here believes that this means the world is of no importance because it is temporary and everchanging but I believe the world is the only place where there can even be such a thing as importance and so is also the only place where value can be found.
All the major religions including science have the same fundamental truth in their words, which is that consciousness is the foundation of everything that appears. In physics the Atman and/or Christ consciousness is referred to as the observer. E equals MC2 literally means energy is everything and this equates to one thing is everything di-vided by energy, consciousness is the one thing. Consciousness is the only force in the Universe today with the ability to deviate anything from it's otherwise inevitable position; this is not an opinion and doesn't require any great knowledge to recognize, anyone can see this for themselves. I managed to get a reply from a teacher of physics who agreed but said he didn't know if consciousness would be considered a force. I say there is no evidence that there has ever been any other force. 🙏
@@imaginaryuniverse632 In response to: "The Eastern philosophy given here believes that this means the world is of no importance because it is temporary and everchanging but I believe the world is the only place where there can even be such a thing as importance and so is also the only place where value can be found."
The meaning of value becomes absurd when one realizes that what is, is, and what is not is not and they are what they are. Value comes from pretending there was something gained or lost. There is just story made up by mind and thought that allows emotions to react one way or the other when the "world" (or the construct made from vibrations) that make that story seem important but the truth is that there is nothing to change but the belief in oneself that this is anything that needs reflective engagement. If you just do there is no time to reflect on the value of the doing or not doing or being or not being. That takes us from illusion of living in a world made of vibrations we call matter to add a layer of further illusion of story why what happens is good or bad not just is. What IS will still REMAIN even IF everyone stops making up stories to feel connected to or rejected by what is.
Thank you
