Horrifying accident highlights dangers of hunt jumps: Crawley and Horsham Hunt

- Hunt jumps are a menace to all. While monitoring the Crawley and Horsham hunt, which has a history of illegal hunting, a hunt monitor is severely injured after a horse falls through a wooden jump and runs off with jump attached. A rider and horse were also treated for injuries. Hunt jumps are fundamentally flawed with gaps in them, and pose a grave risk to horse and rider.
Terrible accident! Looks a bit muddy to be jumping is my thought. As for the negative comments, some horses really love jumping, others not so much. If a horse seems to enjoy it, let him do it. If you gotta convince him to jump, then find him something else to do. I've seen too many forced into it.

Well done sabs for staying so calm and putting yourself in harms way to help this poor injured horse.
It's nice to see monitors and hunters getting along though. It should always be like this; Monitors respectfully keep an eye on things and riders respecting their right to do it. The hunters and sabs who get off on terrorising each other ruin it for everyone else.
It will never be like that as none have the brain power to sit down and have discussions about it. The hunt won't want them to be there as it's inevitable that at some point even following a false trail your going to pick up a fox and don't want that on video, plus they aren't going to like the idea of being told what to do by some townie folk.
Pressure needs to be put on the Gov to make it illegal to hunt without the presence of an official Monitor, someone whom actually has the power to shut the hunt down immediately if witnessing something that's not right. If this doesn't work then pressure needs to be put on Farmers and landowners that allow the hunts to use the farmland that they cover. Trust me no farmer is going to want to loose their business over letting a hunt use the land.
For me I couldn't care less if someone wants to go hunting, I can not abide the thought of a fox getting mauled though that is where my objection comes in. I grew up in the countryside, worked on farms and I've lived next door to a hunt and I've obviously been friendly with them as they are not bad people, some of the toffs and hunt masters can be a bit obnoxious though unless they want something from you. So I have mixed feelings about the situation. However in my mind there should never be any excuse for animal cruelty. If you want to hunt something kill it immediately and make sure it doesn't suffer.
There are ways of going about things and the way that it is at the moment isn't working. After all something that go on are illegal and if you have people gathering in numbers and organised then there should be no reason why they can't be properly policed.
I've watched a lot of these videos over the years and 90% of the time it's the hunters being the aggressors because they don't want the saboteurs there filming their illegal activity.

Why does everyone always start with how long they've ridden when commenting. Things are going to happen no matter how long you've ridden or how "experienced" you claim to be
and the funny thing is you don't need to be an experienced rider to know jumping things that are fixed into the ground and aren't meant to be used as jumps is a horrible idea.

I hate it how everyone make the link between hunters and killing foxes, most hunters are going after a false scent and not foxes, there is nothing wrong with what these people are doing and they are still human beings and not all hunters treat their horses in a bad way in fact it’s quite the opposite, accidents are bound to happen

They record it because they are hunt monitors, it’s what they are *supposed* to do. Make sure the hunt aren’t doing anything illegal like trespassing (which they do quite frequently) or illegally killing foxes with hounds

A rider must not endanger her/ his horse. Since the horse considers his/ her rider as the dominant one, it trust him/ her for its security.

Even then, you do realize that, in a sense, it's still hunting when the farmers of those meats, such as lamb, pig, and cow, do have to be chased down and killed. Maybe not killed on the spot, but the concept still remains the same. The majority of hunters are the exact opposite of what you just said. Horse was later seen limping. Monitor was treated in hospital and recovering from serious leg injury. Rider went to hospital but outcome unknown. Every true equestrian knows that horses have their days as well as humans. You could have been training for years and have the ability to still make a mistake and fall. People who get back up after they've been thrown off, every horse who returns from spooking, it forms a bond. Hunting is like cross country, very dangerous for both rider and horse but they train to do this.

I’ve seen children from BOTH sides hunt/hunt monitors being put at extreme risk! Regardless what type of ride you are on, I hope you wear a properly fitting riding helmet, safety approved and a back protector at all times.

Don't lie; not all hunt jumps are "fundamentally flawed with gaps in them". Only gates. Most jumps are made by the hunt and a trail laid over them. Hunts also jump natural obstacles such as ditches, hedges, stone walls, logs and streams. The sab was injured by a frightened horse. Something they do not understand when they scream, shout and wave banners at them. It's only a matter of time before a sab gets killed by a horse which they have frightened. Or receives a fatal kick due to walking through and behind horses. They have no horse sense and behave inappropriately around horses.

As long as people aren’t hurting horses putting them at risk, actually killing foxes, going on to someone’s property without permission and being careful with what they are doing e.g jumping down a ditch is a bit dangerous for horses legs going onto roads blocking cars I don’t really mind the hunts
These hunts are planned. The property they're going on is preplanned and the owners are aware it is happening. Also the fox scents are fake.

Would have been ok if someone had got to it’s head while it was down, best way to keep them on the ground is apply pressure on its neck. They won’t try and thrash because they can’t move and then you can take everything off. I’ve worked with horses all my life day in day out

Hunting is way over its use by date. I am a rider and take part in a sport that is thousands of years old, it doesn't involve any abuse or chasing of an animal. So to say "we do it because its tradition" is just stupid. It was also tradition to do a lot of horrible stuff, shall we bring that back too? Horses are THE most amazing animals.
