Colourplus was the first film I used and I was tripping around LA. I got some beauties from this stock, made me fall in love with the medium and Kodak as a whole.
These are absolutely gorgeous. I have never used this film but I am in love with the colors. It kind of feels ektarish to me? just really bright and happy and saturated, and airy.
Great video! Great introspective. Just shot a roll of it. Still need to get it developed. You’re spot on in saying we should try as many films as we can. You never know if you’ll like a film until you’ve tried it. I also agree that you can easily use “consumer” grade films for professional applications.
Color Plus here in Germany was out of stock almost everywhere the last months, now its coming online again, even the 36exp version and I love it ; ) I choose color plus over gold and fuji c200.
I got that film at Kaufland here and there and always checked whether it was on discount or not. Last summer, I was lucky enough to find a shelf stuffed with Color Plus for 2,10€ and 2,50€ (24 or 36 exposures, respectively) per roll. I felt like a thief and left some of the stuff there out of sympathy for fellow film-enthusiasts, but the deal was just too good not to get 20 of them at that time. Sorry folks. 🙈
In the early 2000s I was working in a photo shop and we were doing development in an hour. We had a client who was a professional wedding photographer and he was using our in-house film which I believe was the Agfa Vista 200 renowned for us. It was funny because on Monday he brought us 20-30 rolls of 24 exposures and he only asked to adjust the machine to give a slight overexposure. His photos were superb! Contrasting colors with a small pastel side. So yes, consumer films give great results! I like your explanation of the shelf life which is different from so-called professional films.
@@ThePhotoDept might not be worth picking up now (discontinued 2-3) yrs ago. But it came in 200 and 400 iso, colours were beautiful and it was cheap af. Were rumours that it was re-packaged Fuji but no one really knows. I shot it all the time :(
Colorplus 200 is my go-to film (and here in Italy is one of the few you can still find), I find it a bit more neutral than others and a nice base to compare different lenses and cameras
I like shooting ColorPlus for everyday shots and P&S. Has good color vibrancy plus love the grain structure. It’s pleasing. So yea, ColorPlus is my jam.
The first film I ever shot, back in 2019. Think I paid £6.00 for a 36 exposure roll. I miss those days. It's about £11 to £14.00 at the moment in the UK
For the longest time never shot ColorPlus cause it was impossible to get from B&H and my local camera store had the Gold 3 pack for super cheap. But found that Moler's Camera in Kansas seems to always have it in stock for a good price and recently picked up a brick. Now I just need to wait for this coldwave and foot of snow to go away so I can actually enjoy going outside to shoot!
Great video and photos dude! ColorPlus 200 is a great film stock if you want relatively clean results and warmer tones. I just recently did a video about my 800 mi road trip to the Gulf Coast to shoot ColorPlus on the beach and I was super happy with the results
One of my fav film of all time, but it's the biggest struggle to get a hold of this film in Canada. It's not in our market at all, and B&H has been backorder for quite awhile until this past week!
I think the main difference between consumer and pro films are the size of the grain and color accuracy. The shelf life is probably the same in both categories, but pro films just have a tighter quality control so naturally, they put a shorter expiration date on those just in case.
Yeah I thought so too but in practice, what I pointed out in the video holds true. Color accuracy isnt really a thing you have to worry about with any film if exposed properly. Grain size may be a factor but again, in properly exposed film probably less than you’d think.
One of my favourite films. Most situations I'd pick it over Portra 160. In the right light, Portra is lovely. Often though it's just meh. ColorPlus is much, much more forgiving. And is lovely too. I'm not sure whether it's good that you are letting the cat out of the bag (more sales = more likely Kodak will keep making it) or bad (it will sell out, again)(and it's only just come back into stock). I also really like Fujicolor C200. Also cheap, also excellent.
I’m surprised that nobody in the comments is suggesting any of the Kodak Vision 3 cinema films re-spooled. I’m not talking about companies like CineStill, I mean the original untouched vision3 which I find for 1.5 times cheaper than colorplus/gold and is an amazing film. Mind you that’s only viable if you have a lab that does ecn-2 developing or you’re willing to do it yourself.
The images tell the story, really. The film is good, but then again, that's hugely subjective, right? The same goes with Fujicolor 100. $4 and you can blaze through rolls like there's no tomorrow, and I LOVE the way it looks. Now on the Lomography angle, the Lady Grey is also good, but I don't like the type of contrasts it delivers. Will I shoot it again? Probably not, but it all goes back to subjectivity. Many people like different kinds of film for different reasons and it's actually cool to hear what other people like in a film stock. Next up for me: IMAGO B&W ISO320 - Gonna be interesting. Great vid, man.
I love this film but it's getting harder to buy in the UK and the price has shot up - When I see it, I buy it - When it's out of stock it's out of stock everywhere - A great film tho. I tried Kodak TMax (expired) for the first time recently - I've had two rolls kicking around since the 90's and never bothered shooting - Kick myself now - Great video
The difference between pro and consumer products is just this: shelf-life. Pro films are "ready to go", released when their chemestry is on top performance, that's why they need refrigeration - and become a mystery after expired. On the other hand, consumer films are tuned to hold both the heat of summer on a drugstore and the winter on a supermarket. And for years. So, what's the best investment? In my opinion - someone who shoots 35mm since the 1970's - buy consumer film and keep it on the freezer. I still have some from the 1990's that are very fine! And buy, preferably, low ISO. You'll die before them. Best!
@@ThePhotoDept You sure did, I'm just reinforcing it, two salts deeper, for those who read the comments before watching :) I really appreciate the way you put things - and we also share a common passion: Nikon F2. Best!

Not sure if you’ve tried Kodak’s pro image 100, but let me tell you it’s a very great cheap film. $30 for a 5 pack so can’t really go wrong in my opinion.
If it is ever back in stock, Ultrafine Extreme 400 was my favorite cheap black and white stock in 120. Basically only started shooting HP5 when they sold out in the early pandemic.
I love C200! I’ve shot a lot of it and I even have a video I made about it back in 2018 if you wanna go check the archives. Amazing film that I really love.
Colour Plus is HARD to find in Canada!....it gets pricier by the time we pay for shipping, if it's not already sold out on the major players: b&h, etc. I wish I could find this at drugstores here!!
I've had ColorPlus in my shopping cart many times but never purchased. Not that I don't think it's good film, it's because when you order the 5-pack ProImage 100 it's the same cost, & I've had good result with it. Save $$, don't buy the overhyped Leica. It's like every other camera, a box with a hole in it.
Honestly ProImage is really fantastic but it’s got a different vibe. You should definitely try Colorplus. I like proimage during full sun. Hard to beat for that.
I really disagree. Color plus is shit, imo. The colors are way too vivid, and the film is super unsharp and grainy. I'd take gold 200 or fuji c200 over this any day.
Wow the only person who disagrees so far! Interesting. Have you shot it a bunch? I’m surprised you think so, I found the grain to be really for the most part, with no issues in sharpness.
@@ThePhotoDept Maybe the quality varies a lot! I've had bad experiences with colorplus. Colors are often way off and they really lack detail, in my personal experience! I've shot maybe 5 rolls, I only use it for point & shoot since.

Also, your point of view is valid, however myself and several other professionals use Colorplus and other “consumer” films for professional work with great results.
