I received mine today as well! What a good looking piece. It feels super solid. Made 2 shots with my cafelat robot. Too coarse, both times. Even though the shots were super short at very little pressure, I was super surprised by the taste of the shots. Could really taste more fruity notes than what my conical grinder was able to produce.
My experience too! I went too long on my first shot (4 or 5 seconds over... which is a LOT) and it still tasted decent. It lacked the sweetness that I wanted, but I wouldn't throw it out.
@scttymn perhaps it's your first flat burr experience too? I have never used a flat burr grinder before. I thought I had to throw the shot away too but it was really good somehow. Usually I'd go quite a bit finer after shots like these but I feel like I can just go slowly with this one to find the perfect spot. Glad to hear you're having a good experience as well. I have to admit that I felt a bit strange after ordering this product. It's new, first generation, not the biggest amount of reviews. I pretty much bet on the company, Mazzer, being legends in the business.
@@DeferFuncClose I'm upgrading from the Mahlkönig X54. It's a great grinder but I REALLY do not like the grind adjustment on it. I find it difficult to dial in lighter roasts too. Obviously it's a great grinder, but just not my preference. I'm with you on Mazzer's reputation. That was my consideration as well. So far I am not let down one bit.
@ourcoffeeshelter did a great review and talks about the burrs and alignment here, btw: ua-cam.com/video/PV2QghbBOSg/v-deo.htmlsi=liLob7Ed7X6W9OsB&t=882
@@scttymn gotcha yep i watched his video. I just want to get a feel for their QC which haven't been sounding as good as Zernos and I'm just in the middle of pulling the trigger on either one of them
@@Cloudypoo ah, gotcha. Coming from my previous grinder this thing is insanely nice. I've heard good things about Zerno though. IMO, there gets to be a point of diminishing returns on going more and more premium so I try to be realistic with myself. I could spend hundreds more for a fraction of a percent better shots. Obviously if it's a passion, you should go for it (I'm totally an enthusiast as well)! I was swayed by the few reviews I watched about the Philos and Mazzer's reputation for quality.
@@Cloudypoo I pre-ordered at the end of September, finalized payment at the end of October, and received the grinder today (November 7, 2024). I went with the I189D burrs. I figured they'd be the better option for espresso (I already have a grinder for pours). Basically two months from notification they were available to arriving on my doorstep. Not terrible.

Keep us posted if you could do a alignment test with like a dry erase marker and see how good is it from the factory?
