Long years ago when out in sin I had no hope no peace within Down on my knees in agony I prayed to Jesus and He gladly set me free I never shall forget the day When all the burdens of my soul were rolled away It made me happy, be glad and free I'll sing and shout it, for he's everything to me I never shall forget the day When all the burdens of my soul were rolled away It made me happy, be glad and free I'll sing and shout it, for he's everything to me Oh, sinner come to Jesus now At His dear feet just humbly bow Confess to Him your every sin He'll save and cleanse you, give you peace and joy within I never shall forget the day When all the burdens from my soul were rolled away It made me happy, be glad and free I'll sing and shout it, for he's everything to me.
This is the very best song I Love from the Speer family Gospel group. Sue Dodge sure was blessed with some powerful vocal 'pipes' ! Five stars * * * * *
I watched the Speer Family back in the 60;s . They were on T.V. every Sat. afternoon at 1 PM. in Chattanooga, Tn, I was just a teenager but I loved Mom and Pop Speers. I really believe that they really had a bearing on me becoming a Christian. Dad Speer's sung Time Has Made a Change in me. When he sung that song it really hit home. Thanks for having this on Utube.
Young Sue Dodge with such crystal clear soprano singing! She couldn’t have hit those high notes any clearer! It’s amazing how well her high range held up well into her 50s before her voice started to lower with age. And even though she can’t sing as high as she could when she was younger, that crystal clarity is still there…
@Brayden Weese they called it jubelle. It was a song with it. You're invited to this happy juballe Juballe juballe You're invited to this happy juballe. They would repeat about 4 times. Different singing groups would sing.
Beautiful song by some of the most beautiful people in the world! These TV performances are great, but to see them LIVE during this era was nothing short of electric!!! The audience could never get enough of them when they sang this song! Often several encores each night! The excitement of seeing them many, many times and the Holy Spirit's anointing that would flow through them as they sang was something that I will never forget! I still cherish these incredible people!
I worked for the Speers. Awesome family. Brock, Ben, the sisters were a real joy. Faye later came to join the group. What a true spirit. I will always hold that time in my life an honor to have worked with this family.
I listened to the Spear Family as a child, and I'll soon be 70. I recall that toward the end of a certain song the chorus would be repeated again, and often several times. The memory is hazy but the joy the singers expressed has stayed with me. Any idea the name of the song?
To be honest I've always preferred male quartets over mixed groups, however the Speers were an exception. Ben is one of the most incredible arrangers in the history of Gospel Music. His unique arrangements always made them different from anything other mixed group ever did.
I'm 37 & I've been listening to the speers as far back as i can remember. I remember listening to this song on 8-track I think (gosh I feel old) Sue's voice is what first grab me. I finally saw her on the early gaither video w/the speer's singing this. WOIW! She still can sing this one to the Heavens. I never get tired of this song. Btw, where is Brock & Faye?
IF YOU HAD TOLD ME IN 1992, THAT I WOULD BECOME A SOUTHERN GOSPEL MUSIC 🎵🎶 FAN, AND, IN PARTICULAR, A SPEER FAMILY FAN, AND, ESPECIALLY, A BEN LACY SPEER FAN, I WOULD HAVE THOUGHT YOU WERE CRAZY!
In answer to your question about Brock and Faye, sad to say by Brock died some years back. I think Faye appears now and then with the Home coming group.
Earl Woodham Unfortunately, they’ve all gone home now. Brock passed in 1999, his beloved wife of 51 years, Faye, joined him in 2015. Mary Tom passed in 2014 and both Rosa Nell and Ben left us in 2017 - Ben on April 7th and Rosa Nell on May 16th. Our earthly loss is the heavenly choirs gain.
I WENT TO HIGH SCHOOL WITH 2 FRIENDS NAMED SEAN AND NATHAN SPEER, AND, I GRADUATED WITH NATHAN IN 1992. I WONDER IF THEY ARE DISTANTLY RELATED TO THE SPEER FAMILY.
The Blonde haired boy playing bass guitar is Ben's Son Steve..Brock and Faye's Older Son and Daughter.. Mark & Susan sang with the group also for awhile..Faye took time off for a few years to raise there youngest son Brian..
NAILED IT!
BEN, EVEN THOUGH YOU HAVE BEEN IN HEAVEN FOR SIX YEARS NOW, YOU WILL ALWAYS BE MY FAVORITE!

I love Sue Dodge's voice. I saw her sing this song on a Bill Gaither video. She still has what it takes to get people excited on this song.
