I was a Candy Broker for 25 years. I represented Peter Paul when they came out with the new products featured in this video. The reason they no longer exist is because they were all commercial flops. Many of these candies flopped because they were just similar ingredient copies of other well known big sellers in the market. White Chocolate was initially sold in the Summer months before air conditioning because it did not melt like real chocolate. I think Peanut Butter With Jelly would have sold better than No Jelly, which was a name made up as a marketing ploy. Most new items were flops or only sold in Summer if they were not perishable in the heat.
Gosh I wish you were my dad a candy broker he probably came home with Candy all the time you’d be the coolest dad ever! I don’t know any of these candy bars but the Reggie one reminds me of a candy bar called a bun but you can get it right now at Walgreens 😊 You should make a UA-cam channel and talk about candy!
I am not sure if it is the same, but the Marathan bar seems like the UK's Cadbury Curly Wurly. I am in the US, and I bought it at an international store.
@girlsamurai19 I agree, got some shipped on from the UK. Was your international store source here in the States, or did you import also? World Market is a nice source for international items, but does not carry this one yet, at least, not in North Carolina...
Marathon was a favorite of mine. Almost forgot about Powerhouse; it was really tasty! I remember Chunky, they were "thicker-er"! You can still find them, but they are not as thick. I was a Yankees fan growing up and Reggie was one of my favorite players. Who can forget the 3 home runs on 3 swings of the bat in the deciding game of the 77 World Series? There was a candy bar called Whatchamacallit that I enjoyed as well.
You remember marathon???? I have told my girls about it!!! It was my childhood favorite with its braid of beautiful caramel covered with milk chocolate… mmmmmm how I wish I could have it again…😊
Actually I really liked all of the candies you mentioned and miss most of them ....Reggie bar… whatchmacallit and chunky I can still find and love both
@@bettyslawinski8265 they still make marathon bars they’re called curly whirly and they are the exact same candy bar as the marathon it’s even curly just the same exact bar looks the same and taste the same! They’re very popular in the UK but you can find them online!!
Gianttarts.... each wrapper had one grape and one cherry. They weren't chewy like giant sweet tarts are now, they were just supper massive sweet tarts and they were fantastic.
Chuckle!!! Bit o’ Honey was the only candy bar I remember! Good job finding lost candy! My favorites are still here- M&M’s, Reese’s Peanut Butter Cups, Peppermint Patty type candies, and Symphony Bars. 🎉 Love hand- dipped candies too!!!
I LOVE Reese’s peanut butter cups. I’ll stuff two in my mouth at once and make a peanut butter cup pig out of myself…..lol. I also like Hershey’s special dark chocolate bars
You can't buy a back then 5 cent Zero Bar any more with the inside wrapper having a balsa wood "Jet Plane" you could order for a just few cents. A rubber band would power it.
seems most of the candy bars must have been regional. i grew up in the fifties near Buffalo, NY and i remember only 3 or 4. i enjoyed what we did have and some are still around.
not trying to throw cold water on your great work (LOVE your work!!) - but 'nougat' is pronounced like NOO-gut - first syllable rhymes with "moo" , second syllable like 'gut' - slang for your tummy - not like a 'nugget' of gold - just an fyi - - sure wish Peter Paul candies had done better in their day - loved Mounds, Almond Joy - and did you know that the Reggie bar was just a reincarnation of the regional favorite, the Bun candies?? Bun was shaped just like the Reggie, and came in two flavors - one with a maple creme center, covered with peanuts, and then covered with chocolate - the other had a vanilla creme center, also coated with peanuts then covered with chocolate - they were my Mom's favorite - so of course when she got the craving for a Bun, we all got one!
What ever happened to those great penny candies? When I was a kid, if you had 50¢, you were good to go for a summer afternoon! And, anybody remember " Chunky " bars? 🕶️🚬 ...
I can't find it yet on UA-cam, but your mentioning Power House and No Jelly reminded me of a Peter Paul commercial for four of their brands with the tag line "different bites for different likes"! The jingle had "... Power House, No Jelly... something something... Caravelle...! Peter Paul makes your mouth taste swell...!" then the different bites for different likes repeated at the end of the song!
I miss Flicks, a cardboard tube filled with bite sized chocolate candies, kind of similar to kisses. Oh, and Sugar Babies. I'd buy them at my local theater for 5 cents, admission to the show was 10 cents. Lol
Dolly Madison cakes and pies. Without a doubt I miss them the most. Screw Hostess. Screw Little Debbie. We ate Dolly Madison from the Dolly Madison store where we also got our bread. Those Peanut gang treats were the best.
14 years ago, I went to a candy store in Maine while on vacation. They had candies in there that I remembered as a boy from the 60s and 70s. That's the only store I have ever found candy from my childhood.
I'm a caramel freak and loved Marathon bars. I also loved buying individual penny candy, like Fire Balls, Strawberry filled hard candy, Sixlets and Bazooka bubble gum.
My sister used to buy Nestle Choco' Lite bars back in the 1970s. I don't know if she thought they were less fattening than regular candy bars or what. I remember eating them. I think they had tiny air bubbles inside to make the bar "lighter".
I liked chocolate coconut haystack and Reggie and lemon drops and pink peanut patties those were good also liked banana taffy and brachs candy from the candy counter and rainbow coconut bars I think they were yellow pink and white striped
I remember Reggie Bar never tried it loved Chocolite and Marathon bars . Think i remember the 7 up candy bar. Never tried it. Loved PB Max. Tried Summit candy bars not overly thrilled with it was another version of Twix. Have a great day everyone
They forgot to mention the Mars bar. But then again that's not completely gone. Just bite into an almond Snickers, but I kinda miss the almond in every bite.🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉
What I want to say here is not about a candy bar, it seems that no one knows how to make licorice anymore, today's stuff they called licorice, it's only resemblance to licorice is that it's black.
I miss Alpine White bars. None of the so called white chocolate bars today have any chocolate in them. I know that none of the Hershey's bars, like cookies n creme or the new white almond one do. Just look at the ingredients, if there's no cocoa in it, it's not white chocolate. White chocolate will still have to list cocoa in the ingredients, even if it is a very small percent. If there's no cocoa in the ingredients, they can't legally call it white chocolate. Sad. The Alpine White bar was so creamy and sweet, nothing like it today. I wish they would bring it back or at least a real white chocolate bar to replace it.

Does anyone remember bubble gum shaped like a cigar?
I do had an owl on the cigar band
I can remember candy cigarettes that had a mint flavor,
I bought those as a kid!
I still have a package of chocolate candy cigarettes I bought at Fisherman's Wharf In SF in Year 2000.
Yes, it tasted awesome! I loved the orange ones.
Yep, I bought bubble gum cigarettes from the ice cream man when I was a kid.
Loved the Marathon bar and the Seven Up bar! But my absolute favorite was the Mallo Cups. The only place I can find them now is at Cracker Barrel
I saw Mallo cups not too long ago in Wawa in NJ.
Mmmm mallow cups…yes always at Cracker Barrel but I can find them other places thankfully

I used to love a Bun bar too!
Maple Bun bars were the best!
Candy bars are now $1.89 where I live 🤦🏻♂️
$1.99-2.59 for a regular Hershey bar that I got with a bottle of Pepsi for 25 cents growing up..😮unbelievable
Noo get......not nugget.
Power House Candy Bar! 😊
I really miss the 7 Up candy bar. It was different and tasty!
Nougat is pronounced noo-get. Not “nugget”. Otherwise, great video!
Drives me bonkers. Noo-gaht!
I love O Henry bars are they still made?
not trying to throw cold water on your great work (LOVE your work!!) - but 'nougat' is pronounced like NOO-gut - first syllable rhymes with "moo" , second syllable like 'gut' - slang for your tummy - not like a 'nugget' of gold - just an fyi - - sure wish Peter Paul candies had done better in their day - loved Mounds, Almond Joy - and did you know that the Reggie bar was just a reincarnation of the regional favorite, the Bun candies?? The flowery descriptions in the speculated tasting notes remind me of a kid who didn’t read the book presenting a book report.
What ever happened to those great penny candies? When I was a kid, if you had 50¢, you were good to go for a summer afternoon!

🕶️🚬 ...
Chunky bars are still available today. They are not quite as chunky as they used to be though.
@@davidmitchell6873 maybe that's why I'm over looking them. They're hiding behind the Mars Bars.
There used to be a candy bar called 'milkshake'.

I loved the 7-up bars as a child. I’d break the flavors apart and enjoy them all day. Also, Hershey’s made the Rally bar, which was delicious.
I liked those SevenUp candy bars and Butter Brickle English Toffee bars!
Another one that I haven't seen in decades is the Uno bar.....
You forgot Necco candies that looked like coins. Sky Bars? Circus Peanuts. Pay Day. 100 Grand bars. Mary Janes.
I liked all the puffy chocolate candy bars, Mmmmm. Can't eat these things now, not good for seniors, way too much sugar, lol.
Cosmic Candy,it came in pouches with weird animated planets drawn on them,a bit like Pop Rocks. I remember this candy back in the late 70s, early 80s.
Carmel is a city in California, caramel is a browned sugar confection. Car-a-mel!
Dolly Madison cakes and pies. Without a doubt I miss them the most. Screw Hostess. Screw Little Debbie. We ate Dolly Madison from the Dolly Madison store where we also got our bread. Those Peanut gang treats were the best.

Retro candies are back in, Many of these can still be found - well, the 'new' versions.
The King Farouk Candy Bar. Unfortunately they failed to get Egypt's King Farouk's permission to use his name, so it wasn't around long.
I loved the milkshake candy bar.
Three Musketeers candy bar. The best candy comes from 'MARS" !
Slo-Poke was my favorite. Sugar Daddy was kind of a offspring of it.
Butternut was a fav of mine. Would luv to have one now.
