What a player, and what a year he had ! The semifinal against Nadal at AO was played at a crazy level, and Dimitrov’s achievements throughout that year were amazing. Perhaps misjudged because of his huge talent and obvious analogy with RF but a beautiful career nevertheless, this being the fireworks of it.
Other than AO, Cincinnatti, and ATP finals, he didnt make any other significant results.
Fed and baby Fed both had a great 2017
A week he'll never forget
Will never forget the 2 most amazing shots I ever seen in tennis by Dimitrov, 2 consecutive shots against Jack Sock
Stockholm 2014, 2 return points
He has all the potential win grand slams, but has to change his game plan to defensive. Because he is more stylish in act.
hope it gets better for Grigor from here.
Unfortunately not but he did manage to get back into the top 10
I can't even imagine sock and goffin in top 8
This is seriously the easiest draw in an ATP finals of all time.
Thiem, Goffin, Busta, Sock and then Goffin again. Most players would kill for a draw similar to that in a masters 1000 never mind the ATP finals.
ATP500
a legend than now he is a losser
Incredible!👍🏾
Easiest draw in the past decade or so.
The 2017 ATP Finals was probably a 500 series.
When was this match???
2017
His forehand looks so different. More “snap”
hope it is not a one trophy wonder for Dimov
This a normal tournament one of the weakest nitto atp finals 2017
Luckiest player who won atp finals😂
bruh that is a weak asf lineup
Dimitrov at his best his a joy to watch
Aah, such a heartbreaker he is, Dimitrov. Stunningly beautiful playing style, but he hasn't really learned how to grind out a match.
This guy can beat ANYONE on a good day.... extremely talented
Facts
Anyone can win at good day...
@@kingnole4237 but very few have the talent to do so
How about rune?
@@m_kool to do how? Win is a win.. talent doesn't matter
Peak Grigor is always a Joy to watch
Federer should have won this tournament 😢
Let's not forget that Grigor flogged Murray in wimbledon 2014
Rispetto per questo uomo. Grande grigor dimitrov tennisman veramente brave fa piacere a li vedere vincere.
His first and only attempt. Incredible when you think Nadal has never won it despite 10 attempts.
It’s not clay :/
Nadal does not know how to play in indoors, the spaniard is an average top 50 level player on indoor
it was the best Dimitrov......he could never get back with this quality against good opponents in matches in a row.
Wish he played more quality players in this tournament, besides Thiem, these matchups are not Box Office good
The day he became an Instagram star and the guy with the warmest greetings at the net.
Wish he wins a slam in 30s like stan . Too good a talent to not win one
To be honest the field was a little weak I don't see any Nadal Federer or Djokovic so I'm not impressed.
He was going to be the next Roger. Didn't happen
Was still probably far more successful in his career than you'll ever be in yours
@@IronFist2508 Soo... You pretty much just said that to yourself as well. Good one 🤡
@@kolack100 Was I the one criticising you dumb fuck? 🤡
@@IronFist2508 what kind of comment does that mean?
Fed lost semis against Goffin.
I miss when Dimi was good:(
Robbie Koenig is such a bore with his cliched histrionics....
If anything, I think the Grigor 2023 model plays an even more beautiful game nearly a decade later. Certainly more cultured....
Very fun watching Grigor , unfortunately he will always be called baby Fed😂 but still very good
What a masters😂 with Thiem, Goffin, Careno Busta, Sock....where were the big4?
Some 500 series would have still been at a higher level lol.
This was when Grigor played more aggressive tennis and wasn’t afraid to step in and hit the topspin back hand.
Lately you’ll noticed he’s using way more slice and his intensity behind when being aggressive or the approaching shot when coming to net just isn’t there. Great player but definitely has changed over these past few years.
what kind of atp finals was this? goffin and SOCK?! lol
You can say that about half the ATP Finals in the last decade. Tipsarevic in 2012, Monfils in 2016, Sock in 2017, Isner and Anderson in 2018, Schwartzman in 2020.
@@MrTonyMartino exactly. I totally forgot Schwartzman even made the tour finals, whoaaa
Not their fault the rest of the guys didn't qualify. They were the best 8 at the time.
yeah, i don't understand why the ATP doesn't make a Big Three Finals Event where they play each other during a week ... and every year ... it would be soooo cooool :-)
I didn’t wanna be the one to say it, but I’m gonna say it…. He didn’t play nadal djokovic or Federer 🤦🏽🤷🏽🤷🏽
Even tsitsipas too 👍🏻.
Is there a button to turn off Robbie Koenig? 🤢
His hyperbole is "Sensational, Second To None" - lol
Robbie Koenig is one of the best commentators
Dimitrov is basically federer which burns more fuel and much faster.
And then he never made another final
rotterdam 2018
@@Bwgamr2BlogspotAu I was about to specify that I meant the actual atp finals but holy crap is that the only final he’s made since then?
@@theoham6373 yes.. only good result since then was semi final uso '19
Wair what year did he make the final of Cincinnati then?
@@Juliantjennn 2017 and he def Kyrgios
people who compare his style to fed's should watch that forehand at 0:35 lol
Firstttttt
But man, watch the video at first ;-)
probably if he were not good loking he could have had a better career
I didn't know he won all five matches
So he basically won it when no one else was in it
unlucky Goffin
did all the hard work and came short at the end
Federer was in it but lost in semis to Goffin
@@bhisal Fed was washed out by then
@@RamMohammadJosephKaur 2017 was one of Fed's better years I would say. He had just demolished Nadal in Shanghai and was cruising in this tournament. He won AO'18 as well
@@bhisal
not just Federer
Goffin also defeated Nadal in the round robins
if I recall correctly,
Goffin is the only player to beat both Federer and Nadal in the same tournament and still not win the tournament
what kind of atp finals was that? Sock? Carreño Busta? Dimitrov? Goffin?
Those were the golden days of men's tennis.
goffin beat fed, sock beat zverev in round robin. rafa withdrew due to injury. I remember this tournament like the back of my hand because Sock is my favorite player 😂
They did better than all the rest. That's why they were the ones who qualified.
damn, almost federer-like
That was a chaotic year
3rd
So he had to beat Goffin, Carreno Busta, and Jack Sock to win the biggest title of his life
THATS WHAT IM SAYING! He didn’t even face any of the big 3 either like congratulations on your lucky draw
This tournament fell off a cliff
Grigor's "underachiever" status to me is emblematic of the chief problem with modern tennis, which is that the sport is less about skills and more about weapons. Love seeing him win a big event like this, but he was never going to be able to do it consistently because for all his skills he just never had the firepower.
Or the consistency. That's actually the real difference. Novak is not a monster hitter but a) he makes virtually no mistakes b) he hardly ever has an off-day (and even on his off-days he somehow know how to play himself into the match). Grigor is the most inconsistent of the small group of players with similar abilities. But, nonetheless, an absolute joy to watch when on form....
What a stupid statement! Skill and firepower both are equally useless if you don't have consistency and mental toughness. Clearly grigor has firepower with his forehand and serve, but lacks consistency and will power.
That group in the round-robin, Grigor, Thiem, Goffin, and Busta, who the heck was in the other group😮😮
@@21daysfromnow I guess Rafa withdrew after the match against Goffin and Busta replaced him
The second group was comparitively tougher with Federer, Zverev, Cilic and Sock
Where were Federer, Nadal and Djokovic that year?
djokovic did not play in 2017 after wimbledon, federer back injury does not fit and nadal always a mediocre level sucks on this tournament
why did he play coffin twice?
They met in group and in finals. Same for example as Federer and Djokovic in 2015 edition.
4:56 litte bit like federer
Good old day, but now he cant even beat a injured player like Stefan Kozlov
His backhand is not the most beautiful, but the results are perfect 💪
it is the most beautiful, but the results are very imperfect
@@okuyasu4033 true
I'm sorry, but the version of Dimitrov here can beat ANYONE on the entire tour nowadays.
Dimitrov is better than Federer but he’s comfortable where he is at
2017 one of the weakest season of all time in tennis history without the real no.1 who was injury in that year
Exactly what I was thinking. Still, I like to watch him, I think he looks like Federer at times. Just my thoughts
That's true. Defending champion Sir Andy could not compete that year as he was injured.
I thought it was a great year for RF and RN pure nostalgia.
He got injured after Wimbledon so he only missed one grand slam. Djokovic had a poor season no doubt but that wasn't because of his injury.
@@JacenSolo0 2 gslams wimbl and us open 2017
Dimitrov Thiem and Federer are one school for all young player and must study these players
did he face any big 3?
Nope
The only achievement besides his Masters 1000 win that is actually worthy from this underachiever.
He was in three GS semis on 3 different GS tournaments, that is not bad either.
@@miroslavjanecek9993 Underachiever.
The fact that he didn't have to overcome either of the big 3 here shows why his career didn't quite live up to expectations.
Well, he managed to overcome twice Goffin who defeated both Nadal and Federer at the same event.
@@nikolayboshnakov6056 doesn’t matter, he never played any of the big 3 lol
