If Justin starts hope he shows that he got screwed in Chicago! Dude had no offensive line back there, no separating receivers and running backs were nonexistent. Also having two different head coaches and offensive coordinators in his ear did him no favors at all!
And back in OSU he was more of a pocket passer and resorted to running more because Chicago couldn’t block for anything.

Russell and Justin are going to have a LOT of trouble if the Steelers don't have better Offensive Coordinator play calling than poor Kenny Pickett had. The Steelers have the ability to draft excellent talent then send them out on the field with plays that look like they were scratched in the dirt on the playground with a stick. And those are the BEST plays they run! Fingers crossed for these guys.

@Worthyishim i disagree but that is just my opinion. Either one i expect was a massive upgrade, yet Russell just can't cook like he has in the past. I believe his pride will get in the way. I just think which one has more to lose. Now being the steelers anything below 500 is unacceptable and if they dip below then Russell could be benched. The defense is the only thing that can save him.

First year: russ was absolutely terrible though people often blame hackett more. Though imo while hackett wasn’t great. Russ was by far the main problem.
2nd year: russ did better but the HC (Payton) used him as a scapegoat for EVERYTHING despite having one of the worst defenses in the league. Russ didn’t play good but he wasn’t terrible but they thought cutting him was better for the team despite the massive contract

If he is willing to take league minimum, he can play for at least five more years. He is healthy, and wants to play. He is also very durable. There are always gonna be teams needing a backup.
As a Steelers fan, I'd like to see Wilson start and, as long as he is competent, stay in a year to give Fields the opportunity to continue to grow behind him... then, at the end of Wilson's single-year contract, flip the positions (if Wilson chooses to remain).
lol Fields been "growing" for like 5 years now. All Justin needed was NOT the worst Chicago O-line in history. Cant grow when every snap could be your last and be on a stretcher. New team, new coach, much better O-line, just let Justin play behind a real O-Line. Russell fell off when he was on pretty descent rosters.

JJ was drafted for a reason, they use Sam in these situations to “take the pressure off and stir up nonsense”
For McCarthy to sit behind Sam, Sam would have had to have been at least a descent QB up until this point. And he's not. Sam is a scrub. Why would JJ need to sit behind a scrub? Its not like he's sitting behind an Aaron Rogers who might have lost a couple of steps but still has that great football mind. JJ is starting day one, its what the fans want, that team aint gonna let ticket sales drop by teasing them with JJ in the first round then letting scrub ass Donald start lol. I'm a broncos fan. The reason he wanted Russell out was because he couldn't hit wide open targets in the middle of the field which made him almost one dimensional, was taking unnecessary sacks and was adlibing plays when it wasn't needed. We only benched him when it was essentially impossible to make the playoffs.
A-Rod vs T-Rod on the Jets, DeShaun Watson vs Jameis Winston on the Browns, Murray, vs Ridder, vs Tune on the Cardinals, and especially Darnold vs McCarthy on the Vikings.
Murray is leaps and bounds better than the other 2…

Anyone that thinks Justin Fields has what it takes to be an NFL QB either hasn't watched him play or doesn't understand what good QB play looks like. He can't pass in rhythm or with anticipation, he can't read a defense (which also means he can't call line protections) or go through read progression. Ya know, the basics of an NFL level QB.
Hike the ball, drop back steps 1-2-3, ball passed to where the WR is going to be (instead of where he's at). Fields can't do this. This is why %75 of his passing plays are screen passes and his highlights are always to wide open WRs on busted coverages, passes directly to receivers.
Mike has never watched Fields NOT WIN a home game in over a year. He's terrible in the 4th quarter, the most inaccurate QB in the NFL, and a turnover machine. Fields and Wilson ate 55 sacks each in 2022 because they both hold the ball too long. Fields was so bad that his backup went 2-2 in 4 games and looked far more capable than Fields.
Fields WRs were ranked LAST in drops, while Fields was the most inaccurate QB in the NFL. Stop being a clown. He was the problem.

Wilsons record last year with Denver was very similar to Carson Wentz in Indy. Solid numbers , yet there were problems brewing beneath the surface and both were let go.

For the Steelers, my biggest concern is still going to be Arthur Smith, now the offensive coordinator. Even if the Steelers addressed their o-line concerns, and have the skill players to make an impact, I am still not holding my breath. We have seen how Smith overthinks his approach with the Falcons, coincidentally with the same assets to use (the Falcons have one of the best offensive line units, pass catchers like Pitts and London, a solid running attack spearheaded by Robinson and Allgeier), so my worry is he will overthink things again, to the detriment of the Steelers offense.
Take roster control out of his hands his scheme isn’t that bad. He was just stuck with Desmond Ridder who was the worst QB last year. Reminder, Smith Revived Ryan Tannehill’s career prior to this.
I think the offense will take a huge step forward this year under Arthur Smith. The man made a titans offense with Ryan Tannehil a top 5 unit. He has a pretty similar roster with a better qb.

For wentz, the last 4-6 games the game plan totally changed. The staff didn’t trust him anymore. It was all short stuff, 1 reads, RPOs and lots of running. The last game in jax was just when it all crumbled

Problem in Pittsburgh is their line was not good. Plus, their OC has to show he knows how to run the offense. Pus the offense needs to be tuned to what Fields can do. Run with the ball, extend plays and improve his pocket throws.

Justin Fields biggest problem was processing the field and not getting rid of the ball. He had to operate a simplified offense which the good teams would tear him apart. I don't think it's a development problem. It's a mental block. Mitchell Trubiski had the same issues; team quickly realized that the coach had to protect his lack of ability to read the field againes complex defenses. It's not that the Bears didn't have talent but no team can have a probowler at every position in order for a quarterback to develop. He got two offensive coordinators fired and almost 2 coaches. It's like going back to Jay Cutler; at some point, it's the player not the coach. If the Bears kept him, they would have to pay him and not the other players. Ryan Poles is average GM at best right now, he has yet to draft a probowler and you need multiple if you're going to be a title contender. You can't just trade or buy free agents. That will kill your cap.
