@@perfctlyy We would have had to pay him an amount that would have hamstrung us in terms of signing players needed to improve the team. We figured we could reset the deck and not bankrupt ourselves to get a team that loses in the first round of the playoffs... Our Offensive Line is the reason Caleb is struggling. Fields covered up how bad they were with his running ability. Smart fans here knew that.
Hopefully he plays well for you all... And, the League only wanted to trade a 6th Round Pick for Justin, so we weren't the only ones who were not high on him...

@@busyrand you could have gotten a boatload of draft picks for that 1st pick and grabbed another wideout and JPJ at center from Oregon and added more depth across the offensive line and an edge rusher. You'd have a young team on rookie contracts and negated anything Fields would have been making. Don't sip the koolaide. It's bad for you. Ryan Poles screwed JF because he wanted his own guy. You know, while I was watching this video I thought the same exact thing! The new OC really understands how to call a game and is calling up things the Steelers have never done before. I’m writing this after week 3. Obviously last week they got Washington his first NFL TD.
I watched a video today breaking down every single play in that drive that detailed every blocking assignment and pass route, and there’s obviously a very smart man behind the scenes.
I’m also very happy about the play of the offensive line, and we didn’t even have our best players out there in general due to injuries.
Then you consider the defense, and that’s a whole different story. They allowed the Chargers -5 yards in the second half, which is #4 all time NFL least yards allowed in a half.

@@jackhaughI kinda disagree to an extent. The new OC still feels like he has Matt Canada's playbook for 75% of the game. The only exception is when they HAVE to score. When they are in attack mode, their offense looks unstoppable. But SO many drives go exactly like this: 1st down run for 2 yards. 2nd and 8 screen or sweep for 0 yards. 3rd and 8 throw to the sticks, incomplete because they have 5 guys guarding sticks because it's 3rd and 8. It's just so predictable. If you watch a cheifs game, you never know what play they are running. When I watch the Steelers, I predict their plays with RIDICULOUS accuracy. If I can predict it, you know NFL defensive coordinators are predicting it. But when they are in 2 minute drill or in a position where they need to score, they look like super bowl contenders

Justin Fields is younger than Kenny Pickett and has 3 years experience already. Russ might still have some ball left in him but why waste time when Fields can potentially be the starter long term for the Steelers. Free as in having actual coaches that are capable of not only recognizing a players strengths and abilities but one that designs an offense that puts him in the best position to utilize those strengths and abilities which he hasn’t had yet in his entire NFL career. 1) Matt Eberflus _boasted about_ how *"I Decide* what plays to limit the offense to." Ego aside, what a terribly specific boast. 2) If your QB, even a back-up _suddenly_ started stopping themselves regularly from throwing to open receivers, you'd consider they might have a concussion, right? But the first game Fields did this in he did it at least 3 times & the Bears never took him into the tent.
This was week 5 of '22 I think & reporters realized that the Bears *knew* he wasn't concussed & concluded correctly that the only way they _could_ know was if fields was executing the plays as called. So he was *_told_* not to throw to certain receivers on certain plays.
      3) The next couple of weeks Eberflus acted like an Angry Dad bringing his arm down in a chop-wave motion at any reporters who asked him about this.
      4) Fields called out his Own Coaches for 'confusing me as to what they expect from me on the field.' I know this is vague but you have to understand, if he said anyone's name or gave specifics, no coach would ever want him in their locker-room.
But the _reaction from the Bears_ was telling. You remember what it was?
      They said *nothing.*
Now if I'm the HC of a team whose QB says that I want the coach doing this fired.
Unless it's me. Same goes for the GM. So in that moment Poles & Eberflus revealed that they were doing what almost every GM new to a team does, ousting all the locker-room leaders & players in key positions from the previous régimes for themselves, not for the good of the team.
Now being that they wanted to make this decision look good & one of them called offensive plays, what makes you think Fields was working with a deck not stacked against him? Stacked by his _own HC?_ Do you think we were seeing Fields able to operate normally?
Go watch his college tape. Compare it to what he's doing now & what he did for the Bears. He's not back in his college form yet & he's still carrying some Bad Habits that he hasn't quite shaken off from what Eberflus did to him.
But if he does... let's just say it's a huge shame they didn't acquire one more experienced receiver this off-season.

Bruh you're right but there were more out there. There were two passes called back that would have had them inside the ten. One in the ATL game and another one in the Denver game in addition to the TD that did get called back. So there is a realistic chance that there are 3 additional TDs they could have scored based on Justin's arm getting them inside the 10. So 5 legit TD drives in two games in addition to what Boz is doing would look a lot better. Penalties wiped all three off the board, not poor QB play. So the production has been there, the offense needs to clean up the mistakes.

Chicago had the opportunity to potentially draft two top teir o linemen in this last draft. They could have traded down and had three first round picks this year and more in others. Caleb may have talent, but you have to have a foundation in place for a kid like that to come in and develop. They saw what happened to him last year at USC. Bringing in a young player like him starts with giving him protection to buy him time and get familiar with the speed and flow of the game. Chicago wasted all that draft capital, and they'll be in the same boat they were last year in a couple of seasons. They'd have been better off getting rid of Eberflus and bringing in Harbugh.

Just subscribed and I don't for many! TOTALLY agree! Finally, an ex-player who's extremely unbiased and undeterred from speaking truth from being inside the locker room! Keep your same format, too, Mr. CamCorder! I've watched football for over 55 years since I was 9 watching Colts/Jets SB and let me tell you that today's Afr. Am. NFL QB's (athletes in other sports, too) have become so talented - yep, set the bar SO high... that even when they DO play well, they're still compared to other Afr. Am. athletes i.e. Lamar, Hurts, Mahomes (who doesn't look Afr. Am.) whereas they would be superstars 50 years ago compared to English Am. QB's back then... yet were denied opportunity to play that position. That's what I saw not read or googled!

I agree. Russ is weird like that. He always dresses out even if he's hurt and even in the preseason. He's always done that, not just this season. But Cam is right a little, but it's still just how Russ is.

I think they traded for both QBs not knowing who’d be starting week to week. They’re both motivation for each other. Fields is younger and probably hungrier. And they figure he’s gonna play better with a Super Bowl champion on the sidelines waiting to take his place.
The caveat is that Fields has to keep performing at a high level or he loses his spot. Like Cam said, Russ is dressed to play for a reason.
The thing that baffles me is that The Steelers picked up Wilson agreeing to pay out the remainder of Denver’s contract to him. So if they want to be free from that and not have to pay his salary to sit on the bench all season, they’re going to have to start him. They have to show he still CAN play in order to trade him. I don’t even see Miami picking up Wilson out of desperation.

Kinda makes a lot of sense. After really injuring your calf, unless you rest it like WEEKS, you’re almost guaranteed to injure again quickly playing any sport. There’s no way you’d be dressed or any sort of option to get on the field.

happy for JF1.. I guess playing behind a decent Oline and Oline blocking scheme works wonders for good QBs.. I bet JF1 is looking at that Chicago tape and toasting the fact that he dont have to look at that mess in person anymore.

It’s crazy when you build a system around someone’s strengths and not try to force them into a system. I will never understand coaches they try to force players into a system.
