Nigerian activist Mabinuori Kayode Idowu aka ID, former member of the caretaker committee of Young African Pioneers and former Fela's right-hand man, met Fela in 1974 thanks to his friend Duro Ikujenyo, who introduced him to Ghariokwu Lemi designer of Fela’s album sleeves. On November 20, 1976, Fela founded the Young African Pioneers or YAP (Young African Pioneers) movement. He named the trio at the head of the movement and installed the YAP office at the Shrine, and to publish his political ideas in his newspaper Yap News. Fela has just acquired a printing machine to manufacture it. He entered politics following General Obasanjo's decision to hand over power to civilians. But if the slogan "Music is the Weapon of the Future" has remained famous, his ambition to become the "Black President" came-up against a wall of difficulties. After the destruction of Kalakuta in February 1977, the YAP was banned and dissolved by the military regime in power. Determined to stand for election in October 1979, Fela launched a genuine Movement of the People (MOP) party on October 20, 1978. However, to be approved, it must have an office and a secretariat in the capital of each of the twelve states constituting Nigeria. Fela's financial means did not allow it. His party was therefore disqualified on 20 March 1979. And that is how ID, former spokesman for the MOP, will be in charge of the administration of the new group, Egypt 80.
