Nigerian activist Mabinuori Kayode Idowu aka ID, former member of the caretaker committee of Young African Pioneers and former Fela's right-hand man, met Fela in 1974 thanks to his friend Duro Ikujenyo, who introduced him to Ghariokwu Lemi designer of Fela’s album sleeves. On November 20, 1976, Fela founded the Young African Pioneers or YAP (Young African Pioneers) movement. He named the trio at the head of the movement and installed the YAP office at the Shrine, and to publish his political ideas in his newspaper Yap News. However, to be approved, it must have an office and a secretariat in the capital of each of the twelve states constituting Nigeria. Fela's financial means did not allow it.
