Did you notice that on the female violin group there were two basses: and electric upright and an electric bass.
I noticed with that group mostly (expensive) Roland gear. And the two girls on bass, one looked like a Yamaha, the other one not sure but looked like a really well made instrument. I'm curious where they get that stuff as I assume that stuff can not be imported legally there?

The man on the right at 5:58 is the Japanese legend Funky Sueyoshi, who lived in North Korea a time, while creating a "School of Rock" in the June 9th school in Pyongyang. The all-female student band took it very seriously and there are some of their videos on UA-cam. They look so cool with those old ass instruments.

Yeah, that's a late 70's model Yamaha super bass, probably with the original strings. Thanks, I was wondering how it got there. Japanese guitars and basses from that era are excellent instruments with their own feel, and I snap them up whenever I see them.

@@pedrob3953 There's a video on another channel here on YT of the North Korean schoolkids playing a a spooky, minor key alt rock song called 'Murumpyo'. Sueyoshi wasn't allowed to say the word 'rock' or use any existing songs, so he had to write all new songs and material when he was teaching them to play.

Expressing oneself is considered "individualism" which is forbidden in North Korea. One can only express what the Communist Party wants them to express. This is what happens when the "hate speech" thing and Cancel Culture are pushed to the limit.

Musicians express the music. We don't need to watch musicians expressing themselves - you don't know them, and you can talk to them or read about them. If they want to express themselves, they can just be themselves, like asleep, they don't need to hide behind an instrument. Instruments are musical instruments i.e. instruments of music, not instruments of individuality.
