- Learn how to insert text into shapes in Microsoft Word. First, we will insert text using the shape’s built-in text option. Then, we will use WordArt to place text over the shape, which will create the appearance of text inserted into the shape.
This tutorial was filmed in Word for Microsoft 365. These steps also apply to Word for Microsoft 365 for Mac (a.k.a., Word for Mac), Word 2021, Word 2019, Word 2016, and Word 2013 (PC only).

Thank you for watching, Tee Jay!
Crystal clear explanation, Erin. Thank you for sharing! 🌻
Thank you so much!😊
Hi Erin, My right click menu does not have the add text option. How can I add text to my shape without that option? Thank you
Thank you for watching! One workaround would be to create the shape and then select Draw Text Box from the Shape Format tab. You can then type the text and position the text box over the shape. If necessary, change the text box background color to No Fill and the outline to No Outline so it blends with the shape. I hope that helps!
Hi, Erin, all goes well until the step when I need to select the text box, press and hold the Shift key. The shape frame doesn't appear at all. Please, can you help? I use my laptop, windows. Thanks.
Thank you for watching! I was unable to replicate your issue, so unfortunately I don't have a solution. Perhaps you can create the shape away from the text box and then drag it over the text. You could then right-click and select Move to Back so the text is in front...in theory, the shape should stay selected and you should then be able to Shift-select the text box.
Thanks, Erin, for trying to find a solution. I tried it the way you suggested, however, without a success. Maybe there is some obstacle in my lap top, some apps or something, what blocks be from doing this. I will search.... Thanka again. @@erinwrightwriting
how did you learn all this ?
Thank you for watching! I have been using Word academically and professionally since college, so I guess you can say I learned it through heavy usage. :)
How can I format text to fit inside a triangle or pizza?
Thank you for watching! You can choose the triangle shape in the Shapes menu and then follow the steps shown here. If you want to use an image of actual pizza, you could place a text box over the pizza. I have a separate tutorial about text boxes, which you may find helpful: ua-cam.com/video/oXGJZwBYPwk/v-deo.html.
@@erinwrightwritingthank you for responding. I did add a text box to the pizza but I can't get the wording to fit in side the triangle shape as the text box is square.
