I've played this song (trumpet) hundreds of times in instrumental bands but never heard it sung before. Deep rich vocal harmonies and great lyrics... Well done!
That was beautiful. You guys are so fortunate. You’ll have a beautiful memory to carry with you for the rest of your life. Congratulations to your choir coach.
Oh, my goodness! I was searching for some of Hefti's pieces and found this. Neal was a dear friend and I've never heard his music vocalized like this. You have done a fabulous job singing this instrumental piece and capturing all the complexities of this structure, the even and deliberately slow tempo, and harmonies. I think he would be simply elated to see you and hear this piece sung so wonderfully by such a young jazz choir. He was a great believer in music education and would often sit in on the local high school jazz band rehearsals at Santa Barbara High School in southern California in the 1980s after he left the world of performance and music to sort of "retire." Good for you! As you may know, Neal married the "girl singer" in the Woody Herman band when he and she were just staring out. Her name was Francis Wayne and she became very popular in the1940s and 1950s. They were as they say, "A match made in Heaven!" Keep the good jazz arrangements going and keep singing, above all else...
My heart is warmed to hear such young beautiful voices render such an outstanding performance of a true jazz classic composition. Thank you for sharing.
What a catchy tune! Not only the Hefti melody, the whole arrangement is like an earworm. Who "composed" the arrangement? You all handle the optional chords, the hair-raising passing notes and the middle voices as easily as instruments in a big band. And it's a pleasure to watch you master the piece. Congratulations!
Tough tune to keep under control and you do a great job. Great ensemble -- especially impressed with clean, tight releases. Very nice intonation and great dynamics. Very fine performance!

Blessing to all of you. Beautifully done. Thank you for keeping this great music alive...even if I discovered this ten years on.
❤ Brilliant close harmony guys. Love to see the singers enveloped in the performance

Brilliant guys. Beautiful timing, harmony, expression, soul and personality.
Hope each one of you keeps a recording in you family heirlooms ❤
This absolutely HAS to be a phenomenal teacher that worked with them. Kudos. I know exactly what it takes to get these results.

Nice work! My home town kids. Love your love for this great song, I can see it in your performance. And not easy harmonies.
This is a beautiful rendition of Neal Hefti's gorgeous melody.
Very well done, great harmonies and it's got that swing, too! Thanks!

Beautiful. Timing and cadence did justice to " The Count Basie " version. High tones are controlled. Nice.

I thought this was written by a guy named Neil Hefti. I always like giving credit to the inspiration.

!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Hi, where can i find this super arrangement ? I like it very much !
This is my high school group. It's my transcription of Darmon Meader's arrangement.
Anybody know who the arranger is on this?
This piece is Jacob Collier before there was Jacob Collier!
Nice Job! Who did this arrangement?
That tempo is perfect. 5bpm either way it’s too slow or too fast. Great rendition.
