I was there that night, and the Cavaliers were outstanding. Today is January 25th 2024. Former member of the Long Island Sun rises

What a terrific show! The Cavaliers! Prime time. Marching and manuering. Drum line was beyond words. This corps was Drum corps in the 1970's. Feared, respected, and if you competed against them, you knew what color was on that field.

This, and 1969 Ten Commandments are two of my favorite openers.

The Cavvies’ “Russian Christmas Music” always brings tears to my eyes - greatest opener *ever*! Was my highschool band’s opener, my junior year - I remember people being pushed back (if they were incautious enough to stand at the front railing) by the sheer wall of sound we were bringing, in that final push forward! (We closely replicated the Cavvies’ drill, too)

Old Style Marching will Always be in my heart. Even in the80's Everything was Marched on and off the field. There was No Pit Crew or Front Ensemble.

I agree completely with "sdingeswho" from 2 months ago...The '75 Cavies opener arrangement of Russian Christmas Music was NEVER given the power-house credit it was due..and in '76 when they opened with "Russian Sailors Dance" I was blown-away..(literally)...
I marched from '73-78 in The Emerald Knights, from Cedar Rapids, Iowa..as a matter of fact, I am the "screamer" at 06:19 during our rendition of "Sandford and Son in 1977..
I did practice with Madison during the winter of '76 or '77 as a FIRST SOP.. but felt guilty about leaving my small-town home corps so I came back...Looking back at my life, I wish now that I would have taken advantage of that opportunity. Ironically, Madison's drum major in '75 was Scott Schultz..who came to the Emerald Knights in '76 as a PREMIER horn and M&M instructor...that guy was AWESOME!

Terry remember the first time we saw them that year, at the Fox Valley show it was a rain out, so we did standstills in the gym I was blown away it was so fricken loud. I thought the Cavies were going to blow the roof off of the place.

Beautiful show, guys. I loved the sound of the snare drums and I loved the medley at the end with Rainbow, Somewhere, et al. Great job!

That's when snare drums sounded like snare drums not like cardboard boxes . I played snare drum for many years, I know the difference

Really, you should check out the original arrangement of RCM for D&B in 1974 fielded by the Falcon Cadets. The introductory fugue sequence is worth the price of admission.

Back in 1975, we still had some real drum and bugle Corps. In my opinion DCI, is responsible for the demise of this activity. They turned it into a three-ring circus with a marching band superimposed on top of it. If they ever decided to go back to, Real Drum and bugle Corps, would have hundreds of thousands of people attending competitions again, along with many many growing bugle Corps starting in each state and probably every city for the most part. That's how it was, old school. Former member of the Floyd band golden eagles, from Brooklyn New York, in 1960 and 1961. When I turn 21, I joined a senior drum and bugle Corp. I joined the Long Island Sunrisers from 1964 to 1968. Today's date is Cinco de Mayo, May 5th 2022.

@@royrogers4468We have the Old Guard Fife and Drum Corps. We have LNER Peppercorn Class A1 60163 Tornado. We have Union Pacific 4014 Big Boy. Pennsylvania Railroad class T1 5550 is under construction. Somewhere in China, a brand new CRT driver board appeared. New Nixie tubes are being made.
Riddle me this: Why the heck can't we have at least a small sized drum corps in the style of the 70s?
