My hubby’s grandfather once owned Mission Beach. When he wasn’t working the sugar cane and the kids being chased by cassowaries walking to and from school…My mother-in-law said they would be there every school holidays. Her dad had a big old shed that they would all sleep in. All their tall bed legs would sit in buckets of water to stop the crawlies getting you and the rafters always had the a python or 2. They left them there to catch the mice. Their days were spent swimming and eating mangoes from the trees along the beach. When the kids grew up, he apparently sold it to the council for next to nothing.
