- I've seen a lot of cars in my days working as a mechanic, but this 1989 Nissan Pulsar is absolute mint! You won't believe how perfect it is. It's like it just rolled off the assembly line. Thanks for working on and showcasing our Pulsar! I love hearing everyone’s stories! I love hearing viewers feedback! Keep it coming.
Congratulations on such a beautiful example of a Nissan pulsar my sister's boyfriend had one when I was seven coolest thing I'd ever seen he had two 12 in Kenwood's with the US amp and underglow

Here is the link to my detailed UA-cam video overview.
Of course, it's a Bob car
I've been told "really" old Nissan's are reliable. Not sure which my dad had perhaps before I was born. (Earliest memories are Dodge before the parents went Toyota.) So it's good to see a Nissan to get excited about.
Ah yes. Back when cars were interesting in a non-SUV world. Love the nostalgia 👌
Exactly. Everything is so cookie cutter these days.
Before the calamitous Renault merger.
You can’t even tell the cars apart these days. They all look alike along with being either white red black or charcoal and silver. No baby blue no green no orange no purple no violet no yellow all ugly stupid clones. Like they want all us to be
I remember cars!
Ah yes, Back when cars were all tiny cramped death traps.
You didn't mention one of the coolest features. These were designed to remove the rear hatch completely. There is an extra 3rd brake light mounted so when you take off the hatch, you can legally drive it! It was like driving a dune buggy with the t-tops and hatch off!
They also had a ‘wagon’ attachment for it…
Kind of lego for adults.
I never took my hatch off but had the tops off
Great car. They were so much fun to drive. I had the 5 speed XE. I had a 94 King Cab XE V6 4x4 pickup as well. Nissan was crushing it at the time. Just after that their design language shat the bed.
Nissan were in the same reliability as Toyota, and Honda back in those days. Then they were bought out by Renault, and they cut corners for profit, and ruined the cars reliability. 😊
HARDBODY TRUCKS ROCKED😊
LONG LIVE THE HARDBODY 💯
I enjoy this channel due to the variety of cars that come out. Thanks wizard
Agreed 👍 brother, that's what makes it interesting!👌👊👍🦾🦾🦾🇿🇦
Had one in college. It was the SE model with 5spd and DOHC engine. much more power than the base model. Fun car, especially if you got the sportbak.
Yep me and my best friend in college drove his 5speed SE to some of the best times of our life!
We even took the back hatch off and drove around blasting music many times!
Miss you Geoff and the Pulsar!
oh what a cool car! 80s econoboxes were the best! my first euro trash was an 86 GTI
Yep. That’s the Pulsar you want to run across now in this condition. Unfortunately this one being an automatic is a deal breaker for me.
I had an 87 SE in red. Had it from 1996 to 1999 I believe. Loved that car, wish I still had it. My driver's side t top leaked constantly though so my seat was always soaked!
When I was a 7-year-old I would literally see these things everywhere, I always thought the Sportbak version with the box-sized hatch lid was the craziest. I would kill to find one of these in decent condition today (rule #1 being that it needs to be a 5-speed)!
I had an '87. Had that T top/Targa roof thing, and you could take the hatch off. Heck, I think they even had a wagon option. Never saw one in the wild with it. Loved it.
It must have been so cool to drive with the T-Tops and hatch off! Like a 60s Porsche 911 Soft-window Targa. People pay $100,000+ for that experience!
Holy crap!! I haven't seen one of these in 30 years! They weren't sold in super high numbers to begin with -- and here, 30 years since they ended production, they're *incredibly* rare. Man -- Euro Asian Bob really finds some truly amazing stuff!!
I remember as a kid, my neighbor's daughter had one. Brings back memories.
Thanks Mr. Wizard. After seeing the (repeated) quality of Bob's cars on your channel, I wouldn't completely rule out the chance that I might purchase a vehicle from him in the future - and I'm in Tennessee. From his eye for unique quality vehicles, from your compliments about him and the way he (and you) do business, to the inventory and testimonials on his website....the guy can provide things that just aren't widely available (including good service). Continued success to you both!
It's even more impressive that the original owner had cruise control added, showing that there was every intention of driving it. Every survivorie.
Not sure if this is ok to post here, but after e-mailing Euroasain bob, the buy it now price before auction is $15K.
That's incredibly reasonable for what is a new-old stock 80's car. Would be an investment.
Having a brand new 80's 90's car completely stock and just using it that way is certainly a dream of mine.
What a time capsule! I miss the days when cars were small, efficient, and simple to work on... This thing is so cute and awesome and would be quite a nice addition to any retro car show or Radwood type event.
I drove an 86 pulsarnx for years. Was the first manual I ever drove. Great little car.
My mom had an 1987 Pulsar!!! We LOVED that car!!❤❤❤
OMG I miss this car. I had 2 of them, an '89 I bought new and an '88 I bought used.... and was the BEST one. I miss this car!!!
Gosh what a throwback, I had an 87 Nissan Pulsar NX for a bit in high school, black with T-Tops, 5 spd. manual, great video!
Nissan Pulsar EXA Turbo was my favorite 80's car growing up. 👍
Headlights go up!...Headlights go down! Something else we can never have again.
The 'wagon roof' option was called the Sport-bak. That engine is the base engine, the SOHC GA16i, that makes this car the XE. The SE offered the CA16DE in '87 and CA18DE in '88 and '89.
Nice old car indeed. Don,t remember these in the UK. Nearly all Japanese cars of this era rotted away many years ago.😀
Such an awesome car. I haven’t seen one in years.
That metal plate on the exhaust - the thing has a tendency to vibrate and this was Nissan's solution. When I replace mine, the replacement was Very Loud.
I had a 92 NX 2000 and had it from new to 350,000km. The computer died on it 7 years ago, sending too much ⚡️ to every electrical system.
Best car I've owned and it consistently returned 28 mpg while providing a very fun ride.
Pop up-up and down headlights!
The wagon back option was a cool option also. Back from when Nissan was one of the competitive Japanese big 3.
Such a fun sporty little economy car, feels so much more nuanced and imaginative than today’s identical little norm core bumps. Nissan was really killing it in the late 80s and 90s, I had a gorgeous Maxima and the best Pathfinder… I’d kill to own this car with a stick and the shooting break attachment. Bravo! 👏
I had a 1987 Nissan pulsar, I loved that little car no power house but fun to drive. Mine was also a stick shift.
I love how much Kansas ppl love their cruise control! It makes total sense in Kansas; here on Vancouver Island Canada we pretty much can't use cruise control because it's all mountains and curves and red lights lol.
Oh yes! I had one in black. Manual. I liked that car. My family was growing so had to get rid of it for something bigger.
I remember these cars. I like the styling of 1980's Japanese cars in general. Who would have thought a town as small as Hays, KS would have a Nissan dealer.
Memories..man I remember these . So awsome to see such a car preserved
I crashed one of these as a teen. One of the first cars I learned to drive stick on. It was quick and pretty fun but you rarely see them anymore.
Those engines aged like freaking wine. They all look brand new, still!
A neighbor of my family has a brand new red Pulsar (and a Subaru XV6 ) that sat out in front of their house and I was in love with it … every single time I see one now it gives me chills & nostalgia. 🔥
I loved my pulsar! It’s the one car I regret getting rid of.
Hell yeah. I owned one and was 3km from rolling over 300,000km when the alternator failed and was rear ended while waiting for a tow truck, full write off. Really miss those pop up&down headlights.
I loved these cars. My dream machine when I was 18.
I had that in silver. Loved that car! Very sad when it died. My CV shafts failed too!
I remember visiting the dealer and seeing this pulsar next to the 280zx. I was a teen back then
The EXA is one of my favorite cars in Gran Turismo 4. This looks like it came right out of the used car showroom in that game. It's absolutely perfect.
I bought a black one new with that weird wagon roof. Cool car, I liked it.
I put a wall in it, 4 12s and ranked in nationals in the 51-100w category.
Even under the bonnet (hood in US speak) it looks clean. Really as just some months old. Unbelievable
Love the ute top option for the boot ;)
Dang! That takes me back. I had the one that came before this one. Thx!
My friend got one on his sixteenth birthday and totaled it in front of his house that day making a u turn without looking. A couple years later my roomate had one.
My sister had one of these, I loved driving it, I want it 😍
Oh I remember the Pulsar well, my good friend & favorite Valley Girl had one, got to ride in it a lot. Also the add on was called the Sport Back....
I owned one back in the day!
The wizard looks lost wandering around out there😊
Had a black 88 SE 5 speed 1.8L. Loved that car
Neighbor down the street from me has a 88 with 39K miles on it. He bought it new and it's always been garaged. You could eat off of it just like this car.
So cool! I had an '88 SE DOHC 5 speed back in the day! CV boots on those were terrible. I replaced mine about every 30k miles.
I see it selling for between $6k and $8k. I loved that car as a kid.
Rear looks like Mk3 Supra great looking car
The twin cam version had twin cam written everywhere..even on the tires lol
Huge shout out to that Wizard-Yutani T-Shirt! Building Better Wizard-Mobiles!!
Do I miss mine so much. Even the profile pic is still of it 😂. First car was ka24e turbo swapped, then bought a spottbak ca18 se. Sold them and a nx1600 I had for a 370z and just never captured the feel of any of them. Just no soul like these old girls! Still need to aquire a gtir someday to own the trifecta though! lol
I daily drive a 1989 Pulsar. These GA16i engines are only 90 HP. this a nice one. mines in very good shape, but nothing like this. at least mine is 100% rust free too. 8 years with it now. Id be worried about the plastic timing chain guide being brittle by this time just due to age. I replaced mine with a steel one.
I always thought that inspector gadgets car was a pulsar… with the hatchback/lifback interchangeability and the T-tops.
Car wizard some day I will drive to Kansas straight from California just so you can show you my 1989 Nissan Sentra
The steel plate is probably a weight to stop the exhaust from vibrating too much. I've seen it as a weight hanging off a rod (like a hanger, but just a weight on the end).
Agreed.
That "crank handle" shape of the exhaust and the distance all the way to the flexible join would be a cert for vibration.
Nissan/Datsun were finicky re exhausts...
I had a 1975 120Y (B210) and had the exhaust shop leave out the resonator when replacing the rear part of the exhaust including the muffler.....
The "drumming" of the floor with sympathetic vibrations at 60mph drove me mad for 200 miles,.
Luckily the shop still had the old one.
The exhaust tech said "I knew you'd be back"
@JohnSmith-pl2bk right, friends it those funny shadows oem things that owners dismiss as unnecessary are actually VERY necessary
What an amazing time capsule! If it was a manual I'd be calling Bob right now to buy it
Wizard rocking the weyland industries tee from aliens franchise
Back when Nissan was at the top of their game. And then came Carlos Ghosn "Le Cost Killer".
My older brother had an ‘83 Pulsar…he’d still have it if it hadn’t been stolen from his driveway years ago. It’s never been found.
I wanted one so bad my senior year ‘90. My parents told me college or a car…. I chose correctly I think. I did have a 2 year old CRX, so I couldn’t complain much. I did want the flwsgon version though.
I had a 85 200SX that had one of those Z CAR PULLOUT ((JDM?? after 30k miles or wutever engine replacement...)) engines... it was a BEAST :)
Millions of these in CA back in the day.
This makes me want to go rescue the one I found 3 years ago and try to buy a few times, but it being the cooler wagon roof version the sportbak
That Pulsar is such a time capsule. It reminds me of when I had my red 89 Toyota Celica with 115 hp. It was stick and fun to drive, but Pulsars always had a bit more style.
I used to have one of those that I bought used in high school. It wasn’t as nice as this one but it always got me from point A to point B.👍
My mom had a brown with burgundy interior 87 Nissan Pulsar SE 5sp with optional sunroof.
Building better worlds
Beautiful car
My brother had a 84 NX with a manual transmission. The final sale price adjusted for inflation is $35,555.18 kind of steep for a car with no power windows and aftermarket cruise.
I loved those cars
I love crank windows
The amount of these my uncle bought wrecked and we would cut the good ends in half weld em together and spray it
Lowe's 1.6 liter gaDE engines never leaked anywhere. I had a Nissan Sentra, 1987, with 230,000 miles on it, all of the gasket seals on everything where bone dry. Not uncommon at all, those engines are bulletproof.
looks weird with the US bumper up front but i had never seen it with the fold down lights, looks cool and the condition is incredible
My grandma had one, but she got rid of it when I was very young so sadly I don’t remember it.
Awesome!!!!!
I seek our wizard is an alien fan cool shirt bro
I wanted one so bad awesome car
that's a nice MF!!!! I used to put AC on these and PDI back in the day. I couldn't afford one. they were $14,XXX. I have had 3 now and still driving my current 89 every day and enjoying it. mine sat from 1999 to 2915 when I bought it and needed everything mechanical. 100% rust free like this one. was sold here in Austin and stayed here. Who knows, I may have seen it 34 years ago or put AC on it. These GA16i 1.6 liters are 90 HP.
I loved these back in the early 90s.. they didn't last long at all on the roads up here in New England tho.. by late 90s they were all but a rare sight.
Gotta have both the wagon and notchback.
One of my friends has a 1988 Nissan Pulsar in great condition. It had a 5 speed manual and I learned how to drive manual in it a few years ago. Most useless back seat ever tho lol
I believe that the back seat is there to call it a 4 seater for insurance purposes.
The steal plate is an resonator🇧🇻
I can't even remember the last time I saw one of these on the road in any kind of condition
WIZARD, MY GUESS THE PLATE ON THE MUFFLER WOULD BE A GUARD WHEN BACKING UP TO NOT CRUSH THE MUFFLER AND PIPE !!!
Vibration killer...an aftermarket exhaust without it...was very loud according to one commenter.
Between this and the Toyota Paseo, all the car reviewers missed the point of these. They weren't fast or sporty. They were good looking little commuter cars. Great for singles or young couples who didn't need anything more to putter around town and look good. I'm fond of the Sportbak variant that Wizard showed us.
Power mirrors but manual windows? Interesting choice 🤔
Granny's Grocery Getter!
A nice set rims would TRANSFORM this car
Would love to learn how to look at brakes to determine wear.
Just wondering how much being featured on a Car Wizard video helps EuroAsian Bob's car sales...
Quid pro quo...
An old and long friendship which gets us some fantastic automobiles to reminisce over?
I was excited when Nissan announced that car. The idea came from the Ghia Prima and Nissan picked up on that option when Ford decided to pass. (The Prima was similar except the tailgate dropped, much like the Subaru BRAT.) I love the design but passed on the car because of the tailgate not dropping, the ugly dash and its $15K price tag. I'd have wanted the Sportbak but IIRC those were an extra $3K... or roughly $45,000 in today's money.
Hi there! A week or two ago I have learned the first time that such car existed. What are the ods that a neighbour has one standing on the street right next door here in Slovakia 🤔
When you do these videos can you please lower the cars on their suspension so we can see their natural stance instead of resting on the hoist arms?
The 4 cylinder GA engines never leaked a drop...
Yo tengo uno hasta día de hoy, claro que ya no tiene el ca 16 ,hoy tengo un Sr-20
