Hey Tony thanks for the clip and THANK YOU FOR NOT ADDING ALL THE FLUFF i.e. "that's my dog fido" and "honey can you tell the people how you make yo sweet tea" while u show us hiw to fix this. Muuuuch appreciated. However, I did see another video where the crankshaft sensor was topside on the driver side of the motor. Which one did you change? Many thanks. Update... I just looked at that other video I told u about and it turns out he's replacing the CAMSHAFT sensor NOT the CRANKSHAFT like what youre doing. I have my orders now. I'll update you. My 05 max will drive for a good little while in the way to work etc then all of a sudden it will "kick" or buck right in the middle of driving which I found out its going into 5th gear and staying there. Not cool when you have hilly inclines to travel on the way to work in the mornings. I have to literally floor it and keep it floored to get it over a hilly road when it does this. This means I have to anticipate when I need to floor it to gain momentum to make the hill incase it buck's into 5th because you don't know when it's going to happen lol. I ALMOST got pulled by a cop the other day because I had to speed up just in case that bucking happened again in mid Hill climb, he put his little lights on and i saw him breaking when he passed in my rear view but he continued on his way thank God lol. I hear changing this works as opposed to a new tranny. Tha ks again and I'll update...
Thanks for you're video It was really helpful I just changed that sensor on my son's 2008 Nissan maxima really easy save him $80.00 labor because he bought the part!👍🏼👌🏼
I think Ebay sold me the wrong parts....I bought a 3 pk of the sensors and used the exact same sensor used for the transmission on Bank 2 near the radiator in my 05 Max. The other 2 sensors I received are not angled in the same way, but at 90 degrees. I still have to change out Bank 1 and the crankshaft
Hey Tony. Great video . Man I have a question about my 04 Maxima 3.5 5 spd. I noticed a couple days ago that it seemed to be a little low on power or like the transmission had a issue. Car had always started right up and ran great. Until today. Car started up good from what I noticed and drove it around all day with no issues. Went home for a few hours and was leaving again, car started right up and I backed out of driveway and it suddenly died. I immediately started it right up again and it went a few feet and died again and wouldn't restart. Is this a cam sensor issue or a crank sensor issue ? Or all 3 ?
I have a 06 maxima do you recommend replacing both at the same time and should I get the sensors at the dealership only. Transmission starting to slip.
I had Advanced give me the angled one first today but I don’t have that rubber piece and didn’t realize it until now so it didn’t fix my problem but I called told them there were 2 different ones thinking they gave me the wrong one so I swapped angled for straight. Didn’t fix the prob.
Could be what is causing my prob. I had advanced give me the correct angled sensor which they said afterwards it was the wrong sensor because the angled ones go on manual transmissions and mine is automatic. My car doesn’t have original motor so I don’t know if this is true or my motor came out of a manual but I tried the straight supposedly automatic sensor still nothing but I don’t have that rubber piece. Btw my sensor is in that location and I ordered a new connector for bank one camshaft position sensor but I have a black red and like brown and white wire coming from engine but connector has red green and yellow. Diagram I look at said red wire #1 was ground yellow #2 signal and #3 black was power. Not sure if the wiring in an automatic is different color than manual.
my 05 nissan maxima reading p0335 and when I put it in drive it takes off slow and when I put it in manual it stay 5th gear does this indicates my senor need replacing
It also crank slowly this usually mean it going take off slow somedays it crank right up and drive fines but cut off and when crank back up it goes back taking off slow I heard these were cause of crankshaft senor
Striker SenPai I have had a few cases where the crank sensor caused the transmission to start out in 5th gear instead of 1st. I replaced both cam sensors and the crank sensor and it has worked every time. Now Wich sensor actually failed at that time causing that issue weather cam or crank I don't remember, but I highly recommended doing all 3 and the best place to get them is the dealer. Now u don't have to go to the dealership but I have had aftermarket parts cause new symptoms, but not every time.
I'm having this problem on my 2005maxima now, the scanner gave me a camshaft position sensor problem, going to replace it now, car won't accelerate in drive like it should low horsepower
I like that video on the crank sensor. I have a question about the came sensors if the crank sensor is on the way out and cranks a lot it would send a code to the ECM saying the cam sensors are bad. I understand that they both are in sink with each other and one or the other run spark and fuel. Because I have cam sensor codes, and the service light is on and traction control light is on also and can not shutoff by the on and of button. What do you think. Get back with me on this Thank you for your time.
Right now my car kicks when change it from D to R. I replaced TPS Sensor and still does the same, I was told I need to replace the transmisión...🤷🏿♂️😣
Is that a 3.5 motor V6? We have a 2005 I'm pretty sure it's a Maxima I know it's a 3.5 motor V6, no spark it won't start change the cam sensor still won't run what's the next thing I check on these these don't have an ignition control module do they? I know we did have power do I believe it was the red wire at the coils the front three coils and the black wire had continuity to ground same thing I believe with the injectors, it's been a few weeks since I checked it but I'm trying to help this guy get it running
hello, I have 2007 maxima. a whistling sound is coming from the front wheel area on passenger side. sound stops when stopped. do you know what it could be?, and how to fix it?
You are a hero for sure, changing mines out today. But quick question, how would fix code p0171 lean in bank 1 how do I find the location of the problem
A lean code could be anything from a tune up, restriction in fuel filter, a vacuum leak from a bad intake gasket, cracked vacuum hose, stuck egr valve, or bad O2 sensor. Tests need to be ran with certain tools to give you the best answer. Most common failure is the oxygen sensor has failed causing the lean condition, but they can cost upwards of $100, so I’d be sure first.
hi there. I have a 1996 maxima and I'm having trouble , it stalls when it's cold and hot, the revs go up and down and then goes that low it snuffs out. it will do it at the lights taking off slow at anytime. sometimes it won't doit at all. when reaching the speed limit the car slows down and picks up just like turning the key off and on again . now I've replaced the AIC valve still does it so I replaced the cam sensor ,continues to stall would it be the crank sensor doing this do you know thanks ...
Ash Jod my first question would be are there any dtc's. My first guess would be throttle position sensor or maybe mass air flow sensor, and that would be if there are no vacuum leaks. I'm guessing you don't have a scanner that checks for codes, so head to your nearest autozone or advanced auto that checks check engine light codes. Even in some cases people have a check engine light on for some other issue that hasn't caused any drivability issues, they just stare at the light or cover it up. When a new issues arises you should definitly start there have it checked even if the light is not on. Let me know the trouble code and I will do my best to help you out. Thanks
No I would reset the computer with either a scan tool or remove both battery terminals and touch them together for 60 seconds. Then reconnect and verify the problem is fixed.
What is the rubber peice that sits in the hole with the crankshaft position sensor when I went to replace mine it wasnt there and I can't find one anywhere
Well, I'll say this, this particular vehicle in the video im working on had the same scenario, Transmission would default to 5th gear, and go into limp mode to protect itself, i think i had to change all three sensors, and cler out the computer. clear codes with a scanner or remove both batt terminals positive first then neg. Touch them together for 5-10 seconds, this resets the engine and transmission computer and if the initial problem is fixed i will stay out of limp mode, be cautious of cheapy sensors, i had one throw more codes than the original faulty one.
Ok the bolt that hold the sensor in on my o4 was broken off by previous owner I need to know what the bolt size and thread pattern because I think I'm going to need to tap the threads
M6 1.0 obviously you've already done this however for future reference. 90 percent of the 10mm bolts that holds sensors down in this car are m6 1.0 thread
hey tony I have an 05 maxima and it cranks but wont start at all its not the battery or anything I initially thought it was the fuel pump but i have replaced the fuel pump and still no start when I turn the switch on it say that I have no gas and the gas light is on what do you think it could be?
Hi Tony, I have a 2000 Nissan Maxima GLE V6. From time to time it won’t start it will crank but not turn over. I will turn the key back take it out put it back in and it will start up. Doesn’t happen all the time and it has to be something going bad with the car. I did replace the inhibit relay. The car has a new battery alternator and starter. Do you think that this would fix the problem? I liked your video and subscribed to you. Thanks so much for answering this question.
kmshep jonson hi and thanks for the question, first off tell me does this no start condition happen after the motor is hot or cold? Secondly do u notice a theft light present while this happens? Theft light should one on at first, and stay on only for 2 or 3 seconds. I need as much info as you can give me and I can most likely help you figure this out.
Tony Mandes hi, Tony thanks for responding the no start condition happens when it’s hot or cold in the morning or after I’ve been out driving and stopping a few places all of a sudden it’ll do it. It won’t start. But then I took the key out put it back in and it’ll start right up. Yesterday I must’ve stopped at least six places and it started up every time. I do have a security light in the center of the dash, it was blinking I put the key in, the car turned on and the security light went off immediately. I hope this helps you out trying to fix my problem. Thanks again Tony!
@James Roberts The crankshaft positioning sensor is on the bottom of the engine, and that reads the rotation of the flywheel as it spins, and camshaft position sensors are up top on the front or rear of the cylinder head to read the rotation of that particular camshaft as it rotates. Thanks you for your question 👍
No, actually it just keeps water and other debris out. Inside that hole where the sensor sits there isn’t supposed to be any fluid. But if the rear main oil seal is leaking or the backside of the oil pan has a leak it may collect inside that area.
+Bmo Goon No the crank sensor has no control over the transmission goin into gear, but it can make the trans start out in 5th gear instead of 1st. It sounds like u should do some simple checks like is the fluid full and is there puddles on the ground or anything. Good luck
Here the deal guys don't do it the way he did. Put engine oil or silicone paste/spray on the o ring. It will click into place don't ever seat the sensor with the bolt.
I have 2002 maxima 3.5 L with the P0335 code and P0725 pending code. The rpm isn’t working and it has a long crank. I’ve changed the crankshaft position sensor with the oem one but still no change. Any help on what I should do?
Kevin Ventura ok a few things I might add, please go to the crank sensor and check plug for oil contamination, if there any signs of oil, u must clean this out, I recommend electric terminal cleaner spray, CRC makes it amongst other brands. Or brake cleaner will do. Second, Nissan has came out with an Updated sensor that replaces the original replacement that they stopped selling. Also I highly recommend changing the 2 cam sensors and the crank sensor together. Before u go any further I would disconnect both battery terminals and touch them together for about 10 seconds, this completely drains the computer from any power and memory faults. Try this first and see what happens. If u have access to a scanner and can see live data on a graph it would help you see if there is a signal at all, also check to make sure you have, 5volts power and and good ground at the crank sensor. Hope this helps.
@@technician-tony Hello I have bumped the sensor out with a rock so the sensor and connector are gone. Do you happen to know the wiring pattern? I have two red wires and a yellow one. I know the yellow one goes un the middle but I've been searching everywhere and I cannot find the right possition for the red ones...
Jaysiel Perez as you may know, these transmissions act up in all ways, doing many different things they seem to do some weird things, but I’ve seen in multiple cases where the cam sensor will fail, and not throw a trouble code right away. Eventually it will, and the dealers will sell you anything, a fluid flush, to replacing the transmission. It’s only a “guess”, I would need to see the car to get a better idea, I’d check for codes, maybe disconnect the battery for 15 minutes and then if still nothing I’d put a “set”, of cam and crank sensors in an attempt to fix it. If you do a google search on this problem your head will spin. If you can sell it that’d be one less headache. They are great cars when they run right. Good luck
What's the name of the little rubber seal. My old mechanic lost it and I can't find the name of it or where they sell it. I'm getting a misfire code. Please and thank you
+Antonio Martinez I'm not too sure the technical name for it, but it is a weather seal, too keep out water and debris, in a case like this I would call your local dealer and contact the parts department. Just have your vin # ready. Good luck
I replaced the two cam sensors under the hood and my car still wont shift out of 5th gear. should I replace crank sensor shown in this video? I have 06 maxima
+Joshua layton where did u get the cam sensors from? In the past I've had problems with aftermarket sensors. What I do any time I suspect a failed crank or cam sensor I always recommend replacement of all 3. So either u get a crank sensor aftermarket and give it a try. But if not just replace all 3 with dealer parts only. I've seen cases where aftermarket sensors were used and new codes or symptoms occur. So good luck, I hope I could be of help. Thanks for watching and commenting.
Is this pretty much the same with with the 2004 maxima and is there 2 crankshaft sensors? Where is the best to order the parts that is not too exspensive
+Suleasa Richardson there are 2 camshaft sensors bank 1 and bank 2, and a crankshaft sensor on the bottom of the engine, which is the one in the video. I almost always change them together. But what is your original problem?
+Marco Rendon not a vehicle speed sensor, but an engine speed sensor so the computer knows when to fire the ignition coils and other things as well. Thanks Marco for your question.
No it’s not necessary just to change the sensor, but it’s definitely wise to reset the computer afterwards. Infact I’d do a hard reset of the computer by removing both battery terminals and then touch them together, this will drain the capacitor’s stored up energy and reset any trouble codes that may keep the computer in a failsafe mode. Good luck👍🏻!
Great this was a in depth video, you showed how everything was done. Thank you Tony.

Isn't that one of the camshaft position sensors? - not the Crankshaft position sensor?
@James Roberts The crankshaft positioning sensor is on the bottom of the engine, and that reads the rotation of the flywheel as it spins, and camshaft position sensors are up top on the front or rear of the cylinder head to read the rotation of that particular camshaft as it rotates. I got the sent problem an my maxima
I have an 04 maxima works shifts fine when cold after 30 min of driving it starts to jerk in gears why would that be im going crazy
Good luck
Yea i sold it to much headach i wish there transmissions wouldnt fail that maxima hauled ass 2005 3.5 black interior mann it was beautiful
Hey! Is that location the same on a 2001 maxima se?
+Zaylito901 I'd have to look it up but it's a different motor, this here is a 3.5l so I don't think it is. I will get back to u asap
Ok and thank you in advance!
Good luck
+Tony Mandes Also give an update on how u made out with the seal and with misfire if u want
I've lost mine too but I ain't going to a dealer to get one. Hope I can find one at the local pick a part.

I replaced the two cam sensors under the hood and my car still wont shift out of 5th gear. should I replace crank sensor shown in this video? I have 06 maxima
try re-setting the ecm.
I unhooked the battery when I did the replacements, that should of reset the ecm, right?
i dont think so. its a process, But You replace this censor shown in the video, it tells the transmission how to shift
ok, im going to replace the crank shaft sensor this weekend, I'll let u know
+Joshua layton where did u get the cam sensors from? In the past I've had problems with aftermarket sensors. What I do any time I suspect a failed crank or cam sensor I always recommend replacement of all 3. So either u get a crank sensor aftermarket and give it a try. But if not just replace all 3 with dealer parts only. I've seen cases where aftermarket sensors were used and new codes or symptoms occur. So good luck, I hope I could be of help. Thanks for watching and commenting.
Is this sensor for a manual transmission?
It's a crankshaft speed sensor that sends timing info for the computer's to do various things. It is used in auto and manual.
Thank you!!!!
Is this pretty much the same with with the 2004 maxima and is there 2 crankshaft sensors? Where is the best to order the parts that is not too exspensive
I was just going to share this vid with you..
thanks
my hubby changed the bank 2 camshaft sensor and i was still having the same problem
Suleasa Richardson Rule of thumb is to always change both camshaft position sensors & crankshaft position sensor at the same time
+Suleasa Richardson there are 2 camshaft sensors bank 1 and bank 2, and a crankshaft sensor on the bottom of the engine, which is the one in the video. I almost always change them together. But what is your original problem?
Same location on 04 maxima 5 speed automatic?
If it's a 3.5L V6 then yes it is.
Hey man is that under the car
Myles Cannon yes. It sits in the bottom of the transmission bell-housing next to the engine oil pan
Is a speed sensor?
+Marco Rendon not a vehicle speed sensor, but an engine speed sensor so the computer knows when to fire the ignition coils and other things as well. Thanks Marco for your question.
Tony Mandes tank you
Your in the wrong spot you should be able to put that sensor from the top of the motor
Disconnect the bat. first ?
No it’s not necessary just to change the sensor, but it’s definitely wise to reset the computer afterwards. Infact I’d do a hard reset of the computer by removing both battery terminals and then touch them together, this will drain the capacitor’s stored up energy and reset any trouble codes that may keep the computer in a failsafe mode. Good luck👍🏻!
Great advice .Didn't know about the hard reset .Thanks @@technician-tony
