"Dangerous Music had the guts to DARE the incredible Fab Dupont to use really expensive compressors on everything in this song. To prove that really good compressors used be a really good engineer/producer can sound really good."
Fantastic clean compressor; would like a little LA2-A added afterwards for a color character. The overall sound 2 bus is a little too clean for my taste. That LA sound would remove some of the sterile sound like he is just singing in front of you-3 feet way. Also the Manley Vari Mu would help add that pleasing sound to the mix.
think of it as a live perfomance because it is all done in one take. when usually recordings are done by splitting the songs into sections and changing alot of thing in the process.. i would like to get one of these units, it sound better than mine... if i would be you i would have three already...
On the vocal first a limiter and then a compressor?! (I would prefer the other way round! So the compressor can reduce the dynamic range and use the limiter to prevent peak overshoots.)
+Frank55 You can do it either way, but setting the limiter to prevent the peaks before hand leaves your compressor not having to deal with random outbursts and will compress more smoothly overall. But hey it's all preference, and in some cases you'd want a limiter last.
+Angelina martinez Yeah, I personally would be hesitant to use the compression on the way in like that. But keep in mind, it's UA-cam, and who knows what kind of processing occurred after this to be incorporated into this promo. It's likely it sounded way better before.
+Angelina martinez There are plenty of dynamics?! It's muffled, but you have to remember there was zero equalization on it. There's this annoying high frequency coming from his high notes that are covered from his heavy low hand, but in the soft spots it's painful. He's using a 2:1 ratio, and with such a transparent compressor you'd have to really try and muck up something. I think the only issues here would be either mic placement, room resonances or other common nuances not being removed, or the piano is just a dark piano. I understand you saying it's 'too muffled' because the low-mids in his voice are overwhelming too. So I think overall the whole performance just needed a good 1-2db cut in the 3-500 range.
what? no plugins? why is he moving things in the physical world? Is that... wait I think I remember they are called kNOBS and racks? how weird! I just mouse over my manley vox and I'm done
So... why is this special? Any compressor(s) could do this. The engineering and setup choices are what made the compression chain work the way it did. I could do this with 4-6 Alesis 3630's too...
The sound of the Compressor and ability to actually compress without artifacts is the key. If you compared it to a compressor known for it's tone, you'd notice that the colored compressor changes the sound much like an EQ, even with minor gain reduction happening. The Dangerous Compressor doesn't add a sonic flavor and just functions as a work horse compressor. If you compared it to an Alesis, you would notice the difference, especially when you start pushing both compressors for more gain reduction. I hope that helps. If you get a chance to use the Dangerous Compressor, please do and you'll see for yourself.
I could do it with a needle on a wax spindle attached to 3 strings that led to empty soup cans as mics (matched stereo pair on the piano, of course). And it would sound even BETTER.
One take! Great song, vocals and session.
Great vocal performance!
Talented
this is great...what an engineer and producer...this sounds great...

Nice!!!
Super Nice ! great job guys

More!
Although you can only imagine it sounded better in the studio, it is a great song with a great singer.
Thanks for sharing...!

Sweet song ! Good producing ! Great Vocals !
really impressive
this is great. fab rocks!
My next buy is this piece of heaven. When i record i want to hear what i'm hearing, an exact representation. To clean is not a bad thing.
BTW, great performances
🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥
Please make a UAD plugin version of this compressor!!
sounds good. i'll try for the piano 1.5 - 1,7, voice maybe 2 or less, for mix 2 or les. depends of the style. i prefer less compression

in this example i used 1.5 and 1.2 for master. comp from the "box" soundcloud.com/treningowski/nie-wierz-mi-nie-ufaj-mi-m

+Frank55 I really need to learn how to use a compressor

see i like you you know what you doing
Super smooth compression, wow. Definitely sterile tho.
I find the piano too compressed and too muffled.

Totally agree
i believe that most of the compressed sound comes from the mic not the dangerous compressor.
Sounds fine to me... nothing EQ can't fix.

too much compression!!!!
