And so it comes full circle... The Mobile in Mobile Suit is a reference to the Mobile Infantry of the original Starship Troopers book, where they actually wore suits of extremely mobile power armour. Tomino originally envisioned Mobile Suits as actual suits that a pilot wore, his vision based entirely on power armor. Fast enough to compete against jets, armored enough to outlast tanks, and firepower to destroy both. Sunrise had him revise that vision to appeal more to the super robot crowd, but the term “mobile suit” stuck.

Honestly there aren't many advantages in having mobile suits, armored exoskeletons would be far more useful. However, if you have a way to control the robot like it is your own body then a mobile suit would be extremley useful in space, in 0G weight isn't a problem, and at those extreme distances size isn't a disadvantage, instead it would allow the suit to handle weapons capable of threatening space ships.
I was just watchin ep 33 of ZZ Gundam, where Bright Noa visits some Federation big wigs to discuss the fact that they are willing to cede Side 3 to Haman in exchange for a peace treaty. Seeing that scene i connected it the history lesson at the start of Staship Troopers movie: all the loyal soldiers of the Federation, heroes of the One Year War and Axis, people like Bright, Synapse, Uraki, got fed up with the corruption of the politicians and decided to take things into their own hands, thus reforming the Earth Federation into the Terran Federation. And the Power Armor in Starship Troopers can be seen as the logical evolution of mobile suits, already in F91 and Victory we saw how mobile suits were being miniaturized, power armors go a few steps further, they're smaller, cheaper, more maneuverable and far easier to pilot than mobile suits, while retaining almost the same firepower. And remember that commercial in the movie, just replace "psychic" with "newtype". As newtypes became increasingly more common among the population, people started using a simpler and more colloquial term to define them, that's why the ad used the term "psychic" instead of "newtype". Also, as power armors are already very easy to pilot, there's no need to waste the lives of newtypes by making them fight in the frontlines, they are much more useful in intelligence roles.
The federation didn't start first Zeon gased a colony full of spacenoids just for: "The independance of the spacenoids". This contradiction make me laugh at them

I find it funny that the song fits for both the Earth Federation from Mobile suit Gundam and the original franchise it's from, Starship Troopers' Federation
Agreed. Zeon only got as far as they did due to their superior military technology, the element of surprise and the severe weakness of the Federation government who weren't ready for an all out war. Once the Feds recovered and got mass produced mobile suits (plus Amuro becoming experienced as a gundam pilot), Zeon was screwed and was made worse due to internal fighting between the Zabi siblings.
@detpackman One notable is the RGM-79(G) GM Ground Type, right? I've read up on it and it is largely based on the RX-79(G) Gundam Ground Type which itself was assembled from spare parts and given a limited production run use equipment from the RX-78 Gundam series.
Because Tomino is a smart guy and wrote a complex, multi-dimensional conflict with various shades of gray, not a black and white story where all the bad guys had going for them was awesome robots. Various Zeon figures had vibrant personalities, sympathetic perspectives and down right interesting plotlines, contrasted by an increasingly brutal and repressive Earth Federation. That's what makes Gundam so damn good.
@AlexSaysHi2013 GM, not GIM. There were actually quite a lot of Federation Mobile Suits and Zeon Mobile Suits. The Zekes had more, but most were never put into production due to both being costly and virtually worthless in combat. A ground based Big Zam was planned, but given the already existing complexity of the Big Zam, this new model was even worse. You could have built a dozen or so mobile suits AND given them reactors and weapons for just one Big Zam.
i don't think this could have anymore justice on it ^^ amazing vid. long live freedom! the federation to the future ^^ also they should make a new federation vs zeon series.
I wish for a Gundam series about an Alien threat that united humanity. Some non-humanoid species who considers us unworthy, no negations, but elimination.
@AlexSaysHi2013 A Gundam refers to the RX-78-2 Gundam, a prototype mobile suit (MS) featured in 'Mobile Suit Gundam' . It was a prototype close combat mobile suit (of a range of experimental ms) with unusually high performance compared to existing MS. The sudden appearence of the suit and the reign of terror it unleashed on Zeon troops, caused Zeon to refer to it as `White Devil'. Besides other RX-78 models, later High-perf. MS (with gundam-like looks) are commonly titled as gundams.
Ok, I've decided. While the Federation IS neglectful towards their space colonies and seems to make poor choices in war, there's always the possibility that they can reform to become more effective and besides, being neglectful and flawed isn't as bad as being genocidal towards even the people you're fighting for so I'm supporting the Earth Federation! Long live democracy, death to the Principality of Zeon!!
@FLJBeliever1776 yup and there was a total of 20 RX-79(G) deployed in the one yr war . with the EZ8 version being built from scratch from spare parts of both ground types i believe . this is one of the few times the EFSF decided to deploy units specific to ground fighting , rather than trying to use space based suits on the ground . where the ZEON had suits made for any specific situation they needed , water, land ,air ,space .
Hey, how'd that One Week Battle go for ya? Where Zeon slaughtered five billion people and dropped colonies on cities? Look up what happened to Sydney in the UC Gundamverse and enjoy the 'fruits' of Zeon's triumph.
@AlexSaysHi2013 normally a gundam is a high performance moblie suit ,sometimes using experimental technology ,GM mobile suits tend to be mass production versions of those types . there are exceptions though but that seems to be the general rule from the creators of the different series
Well, first off it depends on which Federation you're talking about. On another point, you have to realize that the Federation's leadership has changed several times throughout UC history. With that, different philosophies and leadership styles come, resulting in different actions and perspectives. It isn't that they are stupid, its that they are dealing with armed rebellion constantly and it is driving them to more extreme measures time and time again to deal with it. Part of my issue is [c]
@AlexSaysHi2013 Yes, but based on the additional media, I still maintain that there were more RX-79(G)s in use. Though I can say it has been a good discussion. Did you enjoy it?
Ya know, it just hit me after many years. There isn't even one second of 0080 footage in this. There would be a few good clips that could have made it in, but didn't. I wonder if that's maker preference or if they didn't have a good copy of the ova around?
@detpackman And what sources are those? I'm just counting up the various areas they were deployed and unless they were only counting those seen in use by the Kojima Battalion doing estimates from there, well... I will rest my case.
@detpackman I honestly doubt there were twenty. Far too many were lost and they're shown in a lot of areas. Also the Federation DID make other types, they even had modified GMs for equipped to fight in tundra. Though that's all either did and that was modify existing models for different environments and Zeon never did get a combat capable model of their suits redesigned for Air Combat. There were essentially two Goufs and those did exactly fly for long.
@detpackman I'm challenging that on basis of the fact that a downed Gundam was shown in the opening sequence... or at least a head, but that would have meant the same thing in the same context. Since only 12 were reported in East Asia, this would mean there was in fact 13 and with a REPORTED 20 mobile suits, that would leave 8 more for assignments to Australia with the Mobile Suit Test Corps, Revil's Forces, Jaburo, and several Independent Squadrons... A bit more than 20, don't you think.
@LelouchOfJapan So do I. The characterization and display of most the equipment they use is far more realistic (really saying something there when it's a gundam show) than most other in the franchise, and that is what made it so damn awesome. They weren't heroes out to save the world, just troopers that knew they were needed.

You can drop GMs on Klendathu and have them literally stomping bugs under their feet, like common cockroaches, and have special forces equipped with power armor breach into Zeon capital ships and gun down their crew, capturing the ship almost untouched, like pirates on merchant vessels. Not to mention how power armors would be preferable to mobile suits when fighting inside colonies.
Amen
@@arx3516 I'd gladly take a GM over a Ball. Even if I get stuck with a standard machine gun because my unit was short one Beam Spray Gun, better than an Iron Coffin.
2:00 perfect timing
That part always gets me. All those pilots willing to do a suicide mission to save so many people, mostly strangers that they would have never met.
Krys Williams Man ans then when the Neo Zeon pilots join in the help, that’s such a powerful scene
@@slufffyg503 And I can't find it anywhere on UA-cam. It's, in my opinion, probably the single best scene in the entire movie which is saying something as I really can't think of anything bad to say about the film as a whole.
Krys Williams You can say that again man. The whole thing is great but sometimes I just want to re watch it for that last 15 minutes
served in the UK armed forces , gotta admit if I got control of a mecha I would have rained hell (even more than I did)
Fuck Lockheed Martin and its F35! NATO countries want mobile suits (preferably gundam) now!
@@arx3516 too bad the square cube law makes them useless in their original size, perhaps making them 6 meters and not 18 and up would make them usable
@@tonarsilverwolf6485 realistically you don't want vehicles that stand to tall, as they are easy targets.
Gotta get an update with some sweat shots from Thunderbolt and Origin.
Someone did that
It's mostly the Federation getting their shit pushed in, in both those series' though lol

This would make good propaganda for the Earth Federation
The federation don't need propaganda, we know wich side is right after getting orbital bombings
The federation don't need propaganda, we know wich side is right after getting orbitaly bombed
math77370 federation that start first. we just defend our colony...
The federation didn't start first
Zeon gased a colony full of spacenoids just for: "The independance of the spacenoids". This contradiction make me laugh at them
all you need to know which side is right is go watch gundam Unicorn, and you'll see zeon are the true good guys
this is really good bit sad there's not love for the EFGF M61 main battle tank and anti-mobile suit launcher crews as thier the ones who fought zeon to a stalemate buying enough time for project V to be finished
I´m not a fan of this sort of militaristic, jingoism-fueled music, but this AMV´s so incredibly well executed I can let it slide and just enjoy the ride.
I just regret that I have but one Like to give.
This is incredible. The best amv I have seen.
I find it funny that the song fits for both the Earth Federation from Mobile suit Gundam and the original franchise it's from, Starship Troopers' Federation
I want an Earth Federation with giant Gundam

got to love the one year war series

素晴らしい編集力とセンスだ👍️
Love this song and all the gundam animes
This is so awesome
Even without Amuro the Federation still outproduces Zeon
Forward for victoty soliders of the federation.
Long live the Earth Federation.
@detpackman One notable is the RGM-79(G) GM Ground Type, right? I've read up on it and it is largely based on the RX-79(G) Gundam Ground Type which itself was assembled from spare parts and given a limited production run use equipment from the RX-78 Gundam series.
Really notable machine it is, also the base for the blue destiny giving it extra points
Was that song from Starship Troopers?? :O
yes
Starship Troopers 3, to be precise.
thedragon133 I know... loved it (I just couldn't believe it, and wanted to be sure).
Yeah, it gives the viewer an interesting thought about how both Federations use or more likely abuse their political and military power.
im a zeon fan but i have to admit the federation did well
By "did well", you mean they won every time? You Zeke boys are, what, 0-5 against the Feddies?
I've been looking for this! Great job! FOR OUR BLUE AND PURE WORLD!!! Sorry, got a bit carried away...
Long live the Federation!
Eternal piece unity and prosperity to all Humanity, both on Earth and in space!!!
I admit I'm an Zeon fand but I agree the Federation doesn't get enough love.
Decent flow of the videos with the lyrics. btw 11 folks here are still shouting Sieg Zeon.
This is the Earth Federations High School recruitment video that officers show to the students.
@AlexSaysHi2013 GM, not GIM.
There actually has been one.
And then, out of nowhere, the zeeks would return to their old ways, launching more colonies on Earth.
You mean like the tons of super robot shows from the 70's? Tey Getter Robo Armageddon.
@AlexSaysHi2013
A Gundam refers to the RX-78-2 Gundam, a prototype mobile suit (MS) featured in 'Mobile Suit Gundam' .
MS (with gundam-like looks) are commonly titled as gundams.
idk man but this song is from starship trooper 3 but is fit in for the federation earth gundam :|
great job on this video i was listening to the concert version and thought it would make a great amv and here it is
NO STUDENT WOULD HAVE HAD AFTER SCHOOL DETENTION BUT ME, FOR THE FEDERATION I WILL GIVE MY LIFE.
If there's one thing the Earth Federation is good at, it's winning wars. Unfortunately they always seem to lose the peace.
the earth federation is always right
I’M DOING MY PART!
Long live the Earth Federation!
Ever lasting glory and prosperity for all Humanity, both on Earth and in space!!!
@drei214 That's the movie Char's Counterattack. It's basically one big ending to the rivalry between Char and Amuro.
Well done its realy suits the series :D
Ok, I've decided. While the Federation IS neglectful towards their space colonies and seems to make poor choices in war, there's always the possibility that they can reform to become more effective and besides, being neglectful and flawed isn't as bad as being genocidal towards even the people you're fighting for so I'm supporting the Earth Federation! Long live democracy, death to the Principality of Zeon!!
stupid buffering about time it started to load properly, nice video by the way now that i can watch it :)
i have a manly tear in my right eye.
Long live EFSF !
Hey, how'd that One Week Battle go for ya? Where Zeon slaughtered five billion people and dropped colonies on cities? Look up what happened to Sydney in the UC Gundamverse and enjoy the 'fruits' of Zeon's triumph.
For the Federation!
08th ms team is one of my absolute favorite gundam series :D
the federation did good with what they had
Why did I think this song was from Mulan? I never watched either Mulan or starship troopers 3 so I just assumed
@AlexSaysHi2013 normally a gundam is a high performance moblie suit ,sometimes using experimental technology ,GM mobile suits tend to be mass production versions of those types . there are exceptions though but that seems to be the general rule from the creators of the different series
Starship Troopers music, nice!
I know the story is about mechs, but immagine being a foot soldier, jesus, that's terrifying.
yes
Spacenoids......not used to Earths gravity are ya?
Those spacenoids live peacefully in their perfect colony environment, they couldn't survive the arshness of earth's climmate

What’s the name of this song?
Nevermind I figured out why it’s so patriotic. It’s from starship troopers.
@Bonehimer
um.. no? lol the one where they are pushing the asteroid. MS Igloo is not hand animated frames >.>
For a song with such a patriotic message, it sure shows a lot of Federation soldiers dying...
So did the original music video.
it feels like one of those recruitment tv ads I like it
@detpackman I honestly doubt there were twenty.
FEDERATION APPROVED!!!
Oh man the missed opportunity that this video came out before any clips from Unicorn or Thunderbolt were released.
this is fitting, since the original gundam series took notes from the origional starship troopers book about how science fiction combat could look
Perfect. Just perfect. ;-)
@LelouchOfJapan So do I. The characterization and display of most the equipment they use is far more realistic (really saying something there when it's a gundam show) than most other in the franchise, and that is what made it so damn awesome. They weren't heroes out to save the world, just troopers that knew they were needed.
