I am immensely grateful for your outstanding video on solo loading, securing, and transporting a heavy kayak onto a Jeep Wrangler. It was the most informative resource I found! Initially, I had concerns about managing my new 12ft, 50lb kayak by myself, but your thorough step-by-step tutorial gave me the confidence to proceed with the purchase. Thanks to your guidance, I felt fully capable of handling the kayak on my own. Your video was instrumental in my decision to buy a kayak, and I couldn't have done it without your help!
The bow and stern tie downs she is using is Malone SpeedLine Mini Ratchet Tie-Down Straps. This was the first time I saw these so I had to go buy them. Thanks!
Thank you for showing and talking about the good and the bad. Also, speeding up the video to make yourself look silly, shows that you are having fun. Or maybe the video was speed ed up to save time. It's all good.
Honestly, I've been looking at the Seawings for myself, and your video just made up my mind. Thank you for doing one for complete beginners like me. I'm a short gal, putting a Delta kayak on a large SUV, and I wasnt sure if I could do it. I also wasnt sure about the tie downs and how to loop everything. I am definately saving this one, and will be referring to it often. Thanks again!!! Awesome job!
Oh good, glad the video could add some more info for your decisions. I still love my sea wing. The only tiny issues have been (1) I lost one of the end caps (but it doesn't matter too much) and (2) it does make a whistling noise when I drive so I take it off in between kayak trips. But I love it because it's easy to load and I feel secure about the boat staying up there during transport.
Looking to buy a kayak and transport it with my jeep! Thanks love the video and your set up. Great vid for us new peeps thanks for taking the time 2 make the vid.
Hey, thanks a bunch for the video! You Rock! After purchasing two sets of these for my wife's Christmas present, I then went searching for videos 😂 I'm always backwards!!! Anyway, I enjoyed your video, and I feel better about my choice. You also got a new subscriber from me! Happy holidays!!!
a couple of things if you cover your rear window with a towei.then you won't scratch the shirt out of the glass when loading and unloading your yak if you carry your yak upside down then it won't fill with water on long trips in the rain if you intall grab handles just fore and aft of your cockpit then it;s a lot easier to lift and move your yak around
Thank you for the positive words. I believe those ratchet straps came with the Thule Hullaport Pro rack system that I bought. I actually tried to find a link for the straps but couldn't find them directly for sale anywhere.
Thank you for the informative video. I just put on the same Malone SeaWing carrier on my SUV and was wondering where you got your tie downs for the front and back?
Those are my old tie downs and they came in a set (Thule maybe?). I think I'm still using those same straps. Anyway I looked on Amazon for ratchet tie down straps and there are some good looking ones. The ones with the loop at the end (instead of a mere hook) seem better to me.
This was very helpful, thank you. Where did you buy your front and back ratchet tie downs? Is there a certain brand or name for them with the hook and carabiner? Thank you.
I think those came with the Thule rack. I believe you can purchase them separately and probably the brand wouldn't matter that much. They are still holding up very well.
Thanks. Six years but the Jeep did not hold up so I traded it in and got a more practical Subaru. Therefore I had to change bars. My Malone Seawing had a piece of the wing randomly unglue and break off so the company sent me a brand new one at no charge!!! There is another video on my channel showing the Subaru and the new bars.
It is the Thule hardtop roof rack. It fits onto the lip of the roof. I always worried the whole thing would fly apart but I never had any problems with it.
Thanks so much for this. My seawings are on the way and I’m going to use your method since I’ll be loading by myself. Can I ask how much your boat weighs?
Thanks a heap! my last outrigger canoe was on full length Cherokee, that vehicles gone, now I need a new set up for another vehicle. How many feet long is your kayak??
Awesome video! I 2 sets of the Seawing and am having a hard time with the kayak swiveling in the rack once it’s all tied down no matter how tied I pull the cam buckles. My hull is a deep one so the racks hit the boat on the side; quite elevated from the flat seat of the racks. Have you had the same problem? By the way... was that Exeter NH? I paddle that often. Small world!!!
Hi. Yeah - Exeter. I hit it at the low tide but I should try again. My kayak doesn't move at all in the rack. It isn't deep or super wide. It always looks rather precarious but then seems sturdy when I drive. It doesn't touch the bottom of the rack but the sides seem to hug it when I strap it down.
Rachel Whelton sorry typo.. my hull ISN’T a deep one. I’m so glad you posted this video. Etrailer’s video on how to tied down doesn’t have the demonstrator going through the cross bars. I called Malone who was quite surprised to hear that and they are going to be contacting them about the error in the video. I’ve only transported once this season so far and apparently incorrectly. You’re a Godsend. THANK YOU!!
I ended up buying the Thule Squarebar Evo for my 2018 Jk Unlimited 4 Door Wrangler. It comes w/ 2 adjustable squarebars and 4 foot clamps. It is a perfect fit for the Malone Seawing system. Roof rack costs around $330.
I’ m a tall guy but I find the J hook racks on my 4. Runner difficult to load. My wife cannot help because she is short. The sea wings are perfect. Much easier to load & my wife can help.
Yes I know exactly what you mean, especially since my teenager and I dropped a kayak this summer when trying to load a J rack! I've never had any bad thing happen with the sea wing so I think I'm a customer for life on this product.
It has been some years and I don't remember. I tried to look them up but products have changed and I can't see the same model. There were not many options to hook onto that type of roof. I see Mopar now makes some crossbars that look similar. Sorry I don't have a more precise answer.
Thank you! I also appreciate a review from someone who isn’t a retailer. Lol. Great video!
Glad it was helpful!

Bath mat... genius! Great tip by itself! Thanks.
You are an amazing teacher, Rachel. You were born to teach!
Wow, thank you!

Ken Hopel “I don’t know how to tie a knot” too cute
A set of these come with the Malone Seawings when you purchase them. I can't wait to get mine tomorrow!

This was fantastic!! Just what I’ve been looking for! Thank you!
Just got one as a gift so now I need to buy a second one, it will go on top of our home made teardrop camper so we can take our boats camping with us.

Nice Job! Racks are a difficult decision!
Brilliant video well done
Many thanks!
You can buy a strap attached to a small rubber hose piece that fits under the hood to hold the front strap. Remove when done.
Thank you!
U did very well! 👍
Love this vid!
Thanks!

Thank you for posting this.
Finally someone who used the rhino racks. The cage style racks look so ugly. Great video thank you!!!
Thank you.
I almost bought a used Necky. But it sold before I could even go see it. Oh well. Bought a North Shore Atlantic. Great vid. Cheers from Ottawa🇨🇦

Rachel great video. Have the Malone set, may i ask where you got your ratchet strap set ? I like it better then theirs as well. You did a great job !
Thank you for the positive words. I believe those ratchet straps came with the Thule Hullaport Pro rack system that I bought. I actually tried to find a link for the straps but couldn't find them directly for sale anywhere.

How are they holding up? It’s been six years apparently hehe-beautiful property btw

Awesome video!! Thanks so much for posting. What kind of rack system are you using for your jeep? Looking to invest in a similar set up as you!!
It is the Thule hardtop roof rack. It fits onto the lip of the roof. I always worried the whole thing would fly apart but I never had any problems with it.
Excellent! Thank you! One question: did you remove the red straps while your jeep was parked (while you were kayaking)? Thanks
Yes I did.
@@RachelWhelton Thanks!
Thanks so much for this. My seawings are on the way and I’m going to use your method since I’ll be loading by myself. Can I ask how much your boat weighs?
My kayak weighs about 40 pounds I believe.

14 footer

What Cross bars do you own ?
How was it at highway speed? 70mph??
It was fine. Without the kayak, I heard wind noise. I felt nervous about it but there didn't appear any reason for concern as far as I could tell.
At 70mph with seawings and yak its just fine
what model of roof rack do you have? in the market for one for my 2017 jeep wrangler.

@@RachelWhelton please don’t apologize. You don’t owe me anything. I bought my first Jeep a few weeks ago and I’m just figuring things out. 😀
