    You could make the front panel slide up and out to change them for the changing seasons greetings !!

    Great project. I made something similar but I permanently attached the top and left off the bottom. Set the candle down and put the lantern over it. The lazy man version!

    No risk of fire, no risk of fire! What would a holiday be with out the risk of setting something on fire. Seriously great build, so simple, yet such a crowd pleaser. Thank you!

    Just found your UA-cam page, and I'm enviously watching your videos this evening. I have enjoyed woodworking for the better part of my life, but have not been able to spend as much time with it that I would like. I'm finally starting to see some opportunities opening up, and I love the direction that you have taken with your work. I spent some time in the past with small wood crafts, Intarsia and something called lath art, which has some Canadian history to it. Anyways, Love your work and the talent that your work reflects.

    These are great. I built your router table a couple years back. About to build your outfeed table too 😀Just might have to pick these templates up to make some gifts. Wondering if I can use my Dewalt handheld trim router…

      Probably but depends how powerful it is. Worth a shot. Might be best to cut in 2 passes.

    If you will use a French’s mustard lid on the round bottle of tite bond glue it won’t clog and the cap folds over and locks. My husband has used these for years on his glue bottles

    Any thoughts about a small piece on the bottom of the lid to keep it centered (or in place)?
    Bill

    • @DIYMontreal
      @DIYMontreal  19 днів тому

      Yes, I actually like to do that. You won't have enough wood from a single board to cut this extra piece, but I think it can be a nice added touch if you're willing to purchase an extra plank for this.

  • @jewdd1989
    @jewdd1989 19 днів тому +1

    Very cute project! I remember when you did your inlays last year, I know these don’t have the inner and outer but I wonder if it’d still be possible to route out an inlay and then with another piece create an inlay?

    • @DIYMontreal
      @DIYMontreal  19 днів тому

      It could work but I can't guarantee the inlay would fit since I didn't design them with this in mind... some of the corners might be too tight for the collar on the inlay kit.

    Great project and video. Thanks for sharing.
    Have you ever thought of selling the digital files of your templates, so that people can make the templates themselves when the have a CNC or laser engraver?
    Shipping costs outside US/Canada are very high for physical items.

    • @DIYMontreal
      @DIYMontreal  16 днів тому

      Not something I'm planning for now, but maybe in the future.

    • @richardfarwell6759
      @richardfarwell6759 16 днів тому

      Do a google image search for silhouettes of Xmas/Halloween. I did that, then put the images into my CNC software and cut them out on the CNC. (No physical template needed.) Used vellum to line the inside of the cutouts to help defuse the candle light. Also, I used 1/4" mdf: Got one lantern out of a 12" x 24" piece.
      @DIYMontreal: your patterns/designs are really good looking.

    $400 for all 12 templates plus shipping seems a little bit expensive, there nice but way too much money.

    • @AbsoluteBobby
      @AbsoluteBobby 19 днів тому +2

      Where do you see it being $400? $228.93 USD on her Etsy page for the bundle of 12 templates.

    • @Marty-n2n
      @Marty-n2n 19 днів тому +4

      When you consider the amount of time that it would take you to make them yourself, they’re inexpensive!

    • @KateVassallo-p8u
      @KateVassallo-p8u 19 днів тому

      Yep! All 12 templates will cost approximately 422 Australian dollars!

    • @angellas.1314
      @angellas.1314 19 днів тому

      It’s about $25 USD for each. I’m sure you can buy it individually! You don’t need to buy all 12! But it depends what you’re using it for also. For individual use or for your own business!

    • @ralphvannaman2887
      @ralphvannaman2887 18 днів тому

      @angellas.1314 I clicked on the link given and it was $396.00 for 12 plus $25.00 to $35.00 for shipping depending on how fast you wanted it.

    At least 3 lanterns are missing from your lineup of "the usual supects"; the "Geek" lantern, the "What was I thinking" lantern" and the "When we go dark, we go pitch black" lantern (channelling Stallone ~ can also be used April 1)

    instead of using a template just laser cut the design!

    • @DIYMontreal

      I love laser cutting, but I wanted to keep this project approachable for everyone.

    • @richardfarwell6759
      @richardfarwell6759 16 днів тому

      You're never going to laser cut a half inch board unless you have an industrial laser. Our local makerspace has an eight grand laser and it barely makes it through 1/4" ply or mdf and leaves serious burn marks in the cut.

      @AsterFoz 14 днів тому
