Great project. I made something similar but I permanently attached the top and left off the bottom. Set the candle down and put the lantern over it. The lazy man version!
No risk of fire, no risk of fire! What would a holiday be with out the risk of setting something on fire. Seriously great build, so simple, yet such a crowd pleaser. Thank you!
for anyone with a makita 1.25 router. that powertec kit mounts into it perfectly I also use that double sided tape and love it. It is so much more affordable than what i was using and works very well
Just found your UA-cam page, and I'm enviously watching your videos this evening. I have enjoyed woodworking for the better part of my life, but have not been able to spend as much time with it that I would like. I'm finally starting to see some opportunities opening up, and I love the direction that you have taken with your work. I spent some time in the past with small wood crafts, Intarsia and something called lath art, which has some Canadian history to it. Anyways, Love your work and the talent that your work reflects.
These are great. I built your router table a couple years back. About to build your outfeed table too 😀Just might have to pick these templates up to make some gifts. Wondering if I can use my Dewalt handheld trim router…
If you will use a French’s mustard lid on the round bottle of tite bond glue it won’t clog and the cap folds over and locks. My husband has used these for years on his glue bottles
This is a great idea and look very nice. I use a scroll saw and these would be ideal for that. Any chance you could come up with some pdf patterns to download for a scroll saw? Thanks.
Yes, I actually like to do that. You won't have enough wood from a single board to cut this extra piece, but I think it can be a nice added touch if you're willing to purchase an extra plank for this.
Very cute project! I remember when you did your inlays last year, I know these don’t have the inner and outer but I wonder if it’d still be possible to route out an inlay and then with another piece create an inlay?
It could work but I can't guarantee the inlay would fit since I didn't design them with this in mind... some of the corners might be too tight for the collar on the inlay kit.
Great project and video. Thanks for sharing. Have you ever thought of selling the digital files of your templates, so that people can make the templates themselves when the have a CNC or laser engraver? Shipping costs outside US/Canada are very high for physical items.
Do a google image search for silhouettes of Xmas/Halloween. I did that, then put the images into my CNC software and cut them out on the CNC. (No physical template needed.) Used vellum to line the inside of the cutouts to help defuse the candle light. Also, I used 1/4" mdf: Got one lantern out of a 12" x 24" piece. @DIYMontreal: your patterns/designs are really good looking.
It’s about $25 USD for each. I’m sure you can buy it individually! You don’t need to buy all 12! But it depends what you’re using it for also. For individual use or for your own business!
At least 3 lanterns are missing from your lineup of "the usual supects"; the "Geek" lantern, the "What was I thinking" lantern" and the "When we go dark, we go pitch black" lantern (channelling Stallone ~ can also be used April 1)
You're never going to laser cut a half inch board unless you have an industrial laser. Our local makerspace has an eight grand laser and it barely makes it through 1/4" ply or mdf and leaves serious burn marks in the cut.

Do you do custom templates?
@tingkhumkwa8289 Not right now due to the volume of orders, but custom order requests are welcome in the New Year
Thanks!
You could make the front panel slide up and out to change them for the changing seasons greetings !!
Sure, great idea!
Great project. I made something similar but I permanently attached the top and left off the bottom. Set the candle down and put the lantern over it. The lazy man version!
Shhhh don't tell everyone our little secret! I actually like to build them that way too.
Great looking lanterns !!
A nice addition for the holidays where the kids can paint the inside or outside
I love seeing them personalized!
No risk of fire, no risk of fire! What would a holiday be with out the risk of setting something on fire. Seriously great build, so simple, yet such a crowd pleaser. Thank you!
😂
You never cease to amaze me! Just beautiful work! Every design is better than the next. Thanks for another great video!
Appreciate it, I'm always trying new things! 🙏
I bought the double sided tape you recommended, works a treat 👍
Great to hear!
Beautiful work, Marie! They look amazing! 😃
Stay safe there with your family! 🖖😊

Great.... Bought my gift templates about 2 hours ago, now I see this video. ;) Oh well, should have looked at these at the same time.
😟
Love this little project. Will you be making an Easter Bunny template for Easter. If so, sign me up.
Thanks for the idea! 😄
Nice Concept. Happy Holidays!
Very nice lanterns.
I love you vid on your shop you do a great job thank you

Probably but depends how powerful it is. Worth a shot. Might be best to cut in 2 passes.
If you will use a French’s mustard lid on the round bottle of tite bond glue it won’t clog and the cap folds over and locks. My husband has used these for years on his glue bottles
This is a great video!
Very nice, they could be cut with a scrollsaw, too.
Very Very nice and beautiful video. I'M UNDERSTAND because :- My work is wooden carpentry related
Love your lanterns!!
Thanks!
omg that is awesome!!

Thank you Marie.
Awesome!
I’m thinking about buying a few Christmas templates, make an outside box with low voltage landscape lighting inside then tie into my outdoor lighting.
Love the creativity. Please be safe!
Any thoughts about a small piece on the bottom of the lid to keep it centered (or in place)?
Bill

Semplicemente stupendo
When you say that is good two sided tape, you are not joking. Well done video!! 👍🏻🇨🇦
Thanks! Love that tape!
very nice !
Many thanks!
Great project and video. Thanks for sharing.

Not something I'm planning for now, but maybe in the future.

Thanks 👍

$400 for all 12 templates plus shipping seems a little bit expensive, there nice but way too much money.
Where do you see it being $400? $228.93 USD on her Etsy page for the bundle of 12 templates.
When you consider the amount of time that it would take you to make them yourself, they’re inexpensive!
Yep! All 12 templates will cost approximately 422 Australian dollars!

@angellas.1314 I clicked on the link given and it was $396.00 for 12 plus $25.00 to $35.00 for shipping depending on how fast you wanted it.
At least 3 lanterns are missing from your lineup of "the usual supects"; the "Geek" lantern, the "What was I thinking" lantern" and the "When we go dark, we go pitch black" lantern (channelling Stallone ~ can also be used April 1)
lol sorry, this went way over my head, but A for effort! 🙃
Any promotion codes for a slight discount if I buy 8?
20% off if you buy all 12 www.etsy.com/listing/1804891752/
A scroll saw would work great.
It certainly could
Where's the Santa Hat? Merry Christmas
Doh! One to add for next year.
You will never remove cupping from a board by running it through the planer unless you use sled
😎👍👌
$25 each template?
Yes
A Scroll Saw is a much better tool for this requirement

1 ¼ inch router? That would be huge! This is a ½ inch router at most. 1 ¼ may be the HP of the moter.
😂 I meant to say 1-1/4 HP
Vers 900 Watts for those playing along dans le maison.
instead of using a template just laser cut the design!
I love laser cutting, but I wanted to keep this project approachable for everyone.
You're never going to laser cut a half inch board unless you have an industrial laser. Our local makerspace has an eight grand laser and it barely makes it through 1/4" ply or mdf and leaves serious burn marks in the cut.
how many viewers have a laser at home? and how many have a router?
Where is the man who showed you how to do that? You surely needed help with that.
Way to expensive
Thanks!
