Thanks for the video, I have a JVC HR-S8500 (basically the same machine) on my desk now, in need of a new mode switch. Now I know how to take it apart, should be quicker as you have already shown how to do it :)
You don't need to replace it. A good cleaning with some contact cleaner is probably all it's needed. Dirty or faulty reel rotation sensors are also a common cause of a machine shutdown. Also, be very carefull when removing the mechanism…there are two or three plastic hooks holding it down to the board. These can be accessed from the top with a pair of pliers, no need to take everything apart. These decks are relatively easy to work on.
This might be the gears getting stuck within the Dynamic Drum system, it can power off the machine if it doesn't initialize on power up. A light tap on the machine will sometimes get the Dynamic Drum working again, which may have been the temporary fix seen here. If the machine powers down when fast forwarding or rewinding while playing, then that also may point to the Dynamic Drum system having an issue. There is information on a way to bypass that system on a forum post.
My JVC D-VHS sometimes ejects the cassette when pressing play. My replacement VCR, JVC - HR-S6711EU, on the other hand cannot engage fast rewind and forward, it does the initial slow widing, but when switching to fast, it cannot move the spools and turns off. I should probalbly disconnect the mechanism from the motherboard and check if the parts are in good condition. The deck at the top of the shelf at 10:00 looks very similar to the D-VHS model I have, or JVC was just using tha tform factor for several models.
Well vcrs do shut down because the mode switch is mucky, and you have that clever drum position system that gets tested by the machine when powered on, it will have a sensor to show position so maybe it has a bad joint and the control system just panics and shuts down :-D An interesting video recorder, ive never seen a head position system before. Happy fault hunting colin lol.
Mine a JVC VCR, its head drum not spinning. Thera are 4 pins in connector cable 12V, GND, FG/PG & V ctl pins. Do we need a Control Voltage for the operation of drum spinning.
Yes you can certainly see where the bean counters got their way with the lid off! Philips also had a couple of OEM decks (VR1000/ 1100/ 1500/ 1600) which also had Digital TBC..though I doubt they featured the 'Dynamic Drum System', as that sounds like a JVC special..
I have a VR1000, and it doesn't have the dynamic drum system, but it's actually a very good machine. Sometimes when my Panasonic SVHS decks won't play a tape, one of these JVC ones will.
Bravo, complimenti, almeno ho capito alcune cose sul mio JVC che è quasi uguale a quello che hai fatto vedere...soprattutto dopo la pulizia quella storia della cassetta buttata fuori r i comandi del telecomando che non funzionavano...pensavo di non avere risolto nulla dopo avere tolto il vecchio grasso dai meccanismi di movimento e averlo sostituito con grasso nuovo, pulito la testina rotante e i sensori laterali alla testina...ed invece voilà: ho appoggiato sopra il coperchio come hai fatto vedere tu e il miracolo si è realizzato. Adesso il mio fidato VCR JVC Modello HR-DD868EU Funziona come quando era nuovo. Thank You Very Much!
Thanks for this video, it may be helpful in the future as I'm considering to buy on of these machines (a HR-8600EU). I now use a Philips VR1000/02 but it has some minor issues. It won't rewind but instead shuts off, and after putting it on it will rewind perfectly. I sometimes have some kind of "tracking noise", ruining the audio, while a Panasonic deck plays the audio without any problem. Cleaning with a cleaning tape makes the noise worse, but cleaning by hand makes it more prominent. Would you prefer a S7722 above the S8600? I would really appreciate your advice, it is difficult for me to decide as I never serviced either of these models. Keep up the great videos, I truly can't get enough! One more thing: why do you use the SCART connection instead of the Y/C and cinch connectors? SCART has given me loads of problems in the past and I simply don't trust it anymore...
I don't know if there's much to chose between those two models. As regards connectors, I generally use S-Video connectors when they are available, and only use SCART in S-Video mode when there's no choice. I hate SCART connectors, they are forever falling out.

You are right. The problem is on power supply. To check this you need a osciloscope on all voltage point, if you found a wave, so, is there a problem circuit.
Yes, I have about 14 of them! But the internal ones do a better job of horizontal stabilisation and digital dropout compensation. External ones are best for vertical stabilisation. So I use both.
It's not really possible to diagnose faults by remote control, it needs to be looked at properly. The big flaw with JVCs is that you can't dissable the noise reduction with the tbc on. That's a big disadvantage. That doesn't happen with Panasonic decks.
hi hot a super vhs 15 years ago i had a 100% new head i plugged it in alot of the caps had gone the tec did say they may need changing one day beware DA88 i have had ic's dropping of the servo board under the tape transport i have 5 da88 units need alot of resolding the ic's

I use a Matchline 1100 Philips I had seens new its great when transfer and look at old recordings . Dynamic drum is a fun thing . First was on Philips V2000 format . Fast forward picture search without lines and smoth picture. I have a Panasonic SVHS also 820 with horrible 1 engine drives everything design that have a stuck tape in it for over 10 years . That one broke down after 3 4 years and not much use . So alot off crappy designs on the decks on those and they found there way in to many brands with the same buildquality . I have tryed follow your videos they give alot but you keep stuff out . HOW do you change belts like in a V2000 N1700 etc . Sometimes that is the crusual thing when you Have the VCR apart and searching for info fix like Belts . Some videos are realy Great Those X2 capacitors on Grundig 800 V2000 machines . that was great . I have bought several off them and want to fix up. I always begin change those if it works . So i dont want to complain . Great videos JUst more details . And if you want to . Make a Simple one On how change Capstan belt on a grundig 800 V2000 :) If you want to . (and yes i have get 3 betamachines all sanyo :P they work they are not as good picture as a old vhs but ok . Fun for nostalgic and ( good to have ) ;) :) / Thanks for the word / Stefan / Sweden .
V2000 didn't use anything like the system which JVC employed here. JVC are tilting the drum, but V2000 adjusts the head tips, as also used on some Betacam decks. Oddly enough I changed the capstan belt on a Grundig 2x4 Super just two days ago, I didn't film it but I will explain what I did when I work on the front loading belt this week. TBC isn't common on SVHS decks, only on some high end models. I have them on Panasonic, JVC and Philips (but really JVC) machines too.
The front panel is certainly disappointing, the display doesn't provide as much information as it should and there are no manual recording level sliders. The deck clearly has a cost-reduced feel to it. However the picture quality, especially on worn tapes that some Panasonic models don't get on with, can be remarkable.
@@video99couk This chimes with my experience too. I had a batch of VHS tapes I transferred to DVD recently. Lazily, I use my Panasonic DMR EZ49V (a late VHS/DVD combo recorder) but found that I still needed to plug my JVC HR-J747MS into the AV port occasionally. The JVC machine just seems to play anything I throw at it superbly. Really useful is the fact that the model I have is multi standard too.

Being intermittent, it's proved tricky to pin down. The machine has actually been running tapes for some weeks now.

On this one you can go into the menu and disable "Digital 3R" but leave the TBC on.

Late model. Had a bottom-range regular VHS with a similar front panel. Picture wasn't great. Lasted very few years.

TIL flickering lines means poor AV connections.
