I've been hoarding every GC controller I've found at every yard sale, flea market, thrift store, and independent game store I've found for years. People used to call me crazy - now they ask me if they can borrow a spare...
IIArrowII dude my dad bought me a cirka because he said it got good reviews but I tried the thing and it is absolute garbage. the most annoying thing about the cirka controllers is the only difference looks-wise between them and the official controllers is the lack of the Nintendo logo on the front, so if you aren't paying attention, you may end up getting a piece of garbage instead of an controller
i recently bought a cipon 2 pack on amazon, it is 4 star reviews, but you know how stupid amazon reviewers are... heres to hoping that 4 star review is warranted when they arrive!
As a former Gamestop employee, I used to order the preowned controllers to be shipped to my store from the warehouse. This would let me check the quality and functionality of the controllers before they were sold to people. It made for a pretty easy avenue of getting a new or extra controller for anyone in my local smash scene. If you go into Gamestop looking for one be sure to ask to see ALL of the controllers! Usually the employees will be chill enough if it isn't super busy. They used to only be around $15 too since they were preowned. Not sure how much they are now.
Damn the video drags on for much too long. I feel like you should have been right to the point: If you don't already have one from the Gamecube days / your friends don't have any they're willing to give up, buy it online. Don't get any 3rd party controllers That should save you 10 minutes
Counter point for curious readers: There are some good details here about *how* to see if you're getting what you want via online shopping. Definitely good to know when controllers are continually increasing in price, and its a bummer to shell out for a controller only to have to buy another one to get all the official parts.
I got a GC Controller from controller chaos and it's super sweet. Custom paints and all. I recommend. Has shield drops and semi consistent dash backs. A bit expensive though.
He mentions the cord length on 3rd party controllers being half the length they should be, but original controllers have half length cords of newer models as well. Just wanted to put that out there.
good point! original controller cords are still much longer than the 3rd party controller's though (referencing the 'generic' ones that copy the look of real Gamecube controllers)
3rd party controllers are also smaller, motherboard is smaller, the buttons feel cheaper, the shell is smaller and if you open them up, you can tell the original and fake one apart. Outside the obvious sign is the logo, but in case someone replicates the logo of the gamecube for the controller, i would suggest to invest on nintendo screw drivers, they're cheap...and when you buy anything of ebay or Amazon or even gamestop, open them up to varify their authenticity.
Got a $5 clone for +$40 dollars on Amazon under the officially licensed smash controller category. I got my money back, but not the month of my fucking time. Be careful.
Not sure how far north flea markets go, but I'm in south Texas and found a black Smash 4 and an OG black Nintendo Gamecube branded controller at a nicer flea market that we have down here and got the both for like 30.. I WAS a little nervous taking them home wondering if they;d work, but they felt good at the shop. I t was a chance I took and it worked out so your mileage may vary. If applicable in your area, flea markets guys.
Javtastrophe still some here in NJ! ive never been to one but i do hear you can find them there. just not consistently. also gotta watch out for poor condition controllers and 3rd party controllers there. my friend collects controllers and he found some official gcc's there but they were so dirty lol. just gotta get lucky i guess!
With flea markets it is indeed all about luck, the two I found were diamonds in the rough amongst a slew of third parties and broken ones. There was an orange one but they wanted like 40 for it and I didnt want an orange one. Luck will also be on your side if the people selling dont know how much what they have is worth
I found this to be a head-scratching comment. Flea markets are everywhere, it's not a South Texas thing lol. Imagine you were saying "Not sure how far north convenience stores go, but...If applicable in your area, convenience stores guys" and that's what it felt like to read. Not trying to be jerky or anything, have a good day!
i bought 8 gc controllers on ebay and they are genuine i opened them all and compared them to a fake one . no drift or wobbly stick or snapback. only for 95$ .
I have one other BIG TIP for finding a controller: These are websites that you may/may not be familiar with: LetGO, Close5, Offerup, etc. Basically they are websites where people in your area sell their things.
I have the Smash 4 controllers (normal black and Japan-only white) as well as 3 black originals. I like the Smash controllers because the cords are significantly longer and the Smash logo just looks cool on them.
Oh. My. Gosh. This is exactly the video I have been looking for. I've had to settle for the just press play controllers for about two months now. The first one had its joystick break and the second one's joystick is incredibly bad. I knew they were bad but didn't want to blow 60-70 dollars on a controller that wasn't guaranteed to be fully new. I am going to continue my search now because I now know where to look. This video was a god send.
I'm pretty sure, but there are no videos showcasing it yet so we cant be sure. Original Gamecube controllers already work on switch with help from an adapter, including the adapter nintendo released for the Wii U, and the controllers they released a couple years ago worked on original the gamecube. Most of the official Nintendo controllers I've had I purchased from flea markets ranging from $8-16. If there is a flea market near you, it is definitely worth checking out. Arrive early in the morning to look for any controllers before anyone else takes them. Usually the vendors who sell these controllers don't know how much they are really worth. Some vendors who sell consoles, controllers and games catch on to the high demand and end up buying all the controllers they can find and resell them for double the price. Any decent controller for under $15 is a steal. The one I use now cost me $8 and was covered in dust and grime. Cleaned it up nicely and it works great. Also, if you see any official controllers that aren't the standard black, silver, indigo color (so any orange, emerald, clear, etc.) then buy it even if it feels broken. Other smashers will pay a fair price just for the shell.
It's good but you may need to shave the plastic around the triggers or replace the case. The new cases are prone to having the L and R triggers get caught on them.
If you're looking for some rare colors for more reasonable prices, I would recommend looking around rakuten or japanese yahoo auctions and then using a Japan proxy shipping service. I was able to get my emerald blue controller for around $35 total through using japanese yahoo auctions as well as a proxy service.
Can you make a video on how to learn/start modding your controller if you have not already made one? I want to mod a few of my controllers that I have to give to a few friends.
FoUrSide sure! what did you have in mind? like in terms of specifics, i made a tutorial of how to open controllers and generally take it apart and put it back together but if there's something youd want to see in depth id be happy to make it. however in terms of "modding" for example i cant do like notches or super advanced stuff :(
zenith SSBM in specifics I would like to know how/where to find buttons/backs of a GC controller for a decent price. I checked out the beavercontroller website, but I can not afford the the aesthetic changes I wanted. It would be sick if you could make a vid on that for me and everyone that's is interested in starting to do aesthetic changes to there controllers on a budget, if you have the time.
hmm unfortunately any changes aesthetic or function costs a pretty penny, at least right now :( i wish that wasnt the case but companies hopefully will come into the controller market and competition will drive the price now because for example, custom buttons will cost around $20. the cheaper alternative is painting them but i have never done that personally and i also do not recommend that since it can cause your buttons to stick. if you saw my video on custom buttons, those (as far as i know) are around the cheapest options available at the moment. i cant even personally afford like a paint job on my controllers if i wanted to rn which is why my main controller just has that Pachimari sticker on it lol
It is a huge "your location may vary" but I get 90 percent of my controllers for any system at goodwills/yard sales. it takes some luck, but getting, sometimes up to 4 official ones at a time for 2-5 bucks each, is pretty solid.
Wished i stumbled upon this video earlier. Got a 3rd party controller off of amazon and it started drifting in 2 hours. After that i saw your channel and this video and got a used official controller from amazon for 20 bucks. It feels much better
On the topic of 3rd Party being the worst... That statement has yet to be proven wrong. As someone who has casually played Melee/Brawl and semi-competitive Sm4sh, I have tried 3rd party twice. Those controllers will wear out VERY quickly and usually you'll enjoy about a month's worth of play time with them before the problems get REALLY bad with them (i.e. the buttons requiring you to push down with your thumb all the way just to get a response, big dead zone, etc.) On the flip side, the Official controllers always seem to be the most well-made. They are very responsive, and for the most part get the job done (even if it isn't brand-spanking new). They last for literal YEARS, and even then they manage to operate like normal. Some recommendations I can make are the Official Super Smash Bros 4 white controller (with the Sm4sh emblem on it) and the OG Gamecube controllers being sold on Amazon and E-Bay. Gamestop is "Okay" if you decide to try a Used Official (But I honestly wouldn't rely on it)... The wire length is usually MUCH greater on the official controllers than the knock-offs (So try to avoid the short ones). And remember... NEVER settle with Wireless.
As a recent buyer of the new smash ultimate controller and a used controller from GameStop, I can say that they clean only the outside of the controllers, the dead zones are much higher (from use of course), and they have the metal pieces on the triggers. If you like broken in go controllers with braces for half the price tho, get a GameStop used controller.
Amazon just put up the pre order for Official Smash Ultimate edition gamecube controllers they are $30 PLEASE BUY THEM NOW or pay the highly gouged prices a year down from now
I wouldn't be so quick to jump the gun and blame him... I tried a clear controller once and have to say, nada. A solid colored, official GC controller is basically the most solid and safe choice.
Facebook groups that primarily sell games and other stuff is a good choice, if it's in-state that's good, some people don't know what they're worth and just want to get rid of the controller and console for a reasonable price.
i remember when i was younger having gc controller by madcat i think and they were always glitching like i had to reconect them few times while playing but i also had a ntdo one that worked and still work perfectly
I spent around $15 on new thumbstick caps and a triwig screwdriver. I bought some used platinum controllers with no rubber padding on the thumbsticks so i popped them open and cleaned out the plastic cases, and replaced the thumbstick caps on them.
Speaking of 3rd party controllers, MadCatz GameCube controllers have B and Y close together so you can easily perform supers in 2D fighters that use two punch buttons at once with a single thumb. Unfortunately most other controllers (especially Nintendo's) makes hitting B and Y together a lot harder due to the gap. Earlier GameStop GameCube controllers have analog ranges that go past Nintendo's 1st party stick ranges; therefore, making certain PS3 and PC games play easier and better. P.S. MayFlash's GameCube Controller Adapter works with the PS3, but only with the dipswitch set to "PC" mode.
I actually found my wavebird on Facebook market for my local area. My local gameshop also only accepts official controllers, going as far as to examine them prior to buying. My other two were opened and cleaned prior to me buying them, but other than the shop I'm the second owner... All of my sisters were with us from the beginning. I'm very lucky to live in a spot where GameCube was popular back then. All of mine respond exceptionally well, even my now heavily modded wavebird!
If youre in the canada toronto pickering area, theres a fantastic used games store called we got gamez, which offers multiple colours of gc controllers from 40-50 cad, while also letting you try the controllers out on a melee setup before you buy
There is a problem Official GC controller's cost twice as wii. (Hey 1 dolar equals 7 bucks in my country plus+%20 tax and another %20 tax + about 13 bucks). Ebay is pain to use because shipping from America makes it harder. Help
Really really helped, thank you so much, been using friends GCs at my school club and I just wanted to always own one for the club, and than you again for the notice of GameStop controllers hahaha
Please be aware that Nintendo just released updated GameCube controllers specifically for SSBU on 2 November, and that they are far cheaper but of equal quality to the original controllers.
I know this might sound weird, but if you're buying a used GameCube controller, buying on on GameStop's online store is great. GameCube controllers on eBay go around $20-$25, and if occasionally you can pick one up on GameStop's webstie for $15 and $13 if you are part of some rewards program. I bought 4 for $50 and all of them look brand new and they come in a bag to hold your controller in
MadCatz controllers have bigger +Control Pads, and the B & Y button spacing is closer to the point that you can press both of them with a single thumb. It is good for 2D fighters, since I was able to pull off NEOMAX moves in KOFXIII (via Mayflash Gamecube controller adapter on PS3) without macros perfectly. Some GameStop Gamecube controllers have maximum analog range compared to the short, limited analog range official Nintendo controllers have. I could not play LittleBigPlanet that well with an official GCN controller due to the short analog range. However, with a GameStop branded one, Sackboy can finally run in the fastest speed possible, just like on an actual PS3 controller.
maybe that has to do with cardinal values? lol not too well versed on those but some gccs analog inputs only go to like .875 for example instead of 1.0. maybe thats the reason? but while 3rd party controllers are fine for most games as long as they are decent enough i strongly recommend going with only official ones for competitive melee
I ordered one to pick up at GameStop so hopefully it’s Nintendo licensed that’s all the matters to me the colors and stuff like that doesn’t matter just plz make sure yours is Nintendo licensed cuz those are the best ones if you are trying to have a good experience. Trust me I went over a friends house and used the original and had the time of my life wrecking him in melee
I've heard some controllers are better for different things like shield dropping and pivots. What's that all about? Is that something you can mod any controller to do? If so, how?
In the state I live in, every weekend theres always this big area full of people selling old stuff there (I dont know what its called in English but in spanish we call it the pulga) and theres always like 3 to 6 stands that sell gamecube accessories and are official
I've always used my old 360 controller on dolphin and it has the largest deadzones on the planet. But I love it and I'm used to it, so even if it might not be optimal, it was enough for me to learn wavedash/shine and L- cancel. Also I may sound like a kill joy but a lot of people wanna by the very best controller possible even if they don't need it because they don't really play seriously and that's a shame, but hey, good video man :)
Great video! i've always wanted to see someone cover this topic. Another great place to find controllers is in flea markets. Take a look around and you might find some old lady selling good stuff at a very moderate price. Got a perfect condition orange controller for 5 bucks! So definitely keep an eye out and try to bargain a lot as flea market sellers only want money and might lower their prices if you ask them to.
Otoniel Garza wow, thats an amazing deal! only reason i didnt include flea markets in my video was just cause its so hit or miss there but yea as you showed def chances for great deals there
If you're in Canada, Kijiji is a great option. Got all 3 of my current controllers there in great condition for $10 a peice, you just gotta be patient. I also got a lot of 5 fully working but bad condition ones for $5 each that I can use when friends who don't play smash come over.
ive been using a gamestop controller thinking its the official for like 2 years now. went to friends house and tried their controller. There is a huge difference.
Just stumbled across this video and i want to thank you for making a video on a very common issue for many people i just wanted to ask if anything’s different from last year when this was made
I use the smash 4 controller for both melee and wii u. My personal preference is that the white one is better, i dont know if there is a difference but i felt that the white one was way more crisp and lasts longer
Thankfully I hoped on buying the Smash 4 controller when the game came out bought the White and Black version for my brother and I and Orange Spice so I can have an extra to play with friends! Never bad to have more controllers when friends come over and slapping that GameCube adapter on the Wiiu (:
I live in Vancouver, WA and here, the Goodwill that is close to my house almost ALWAYS carries Gamecube controllers for as little as 3.99, I don't horde them as that's kinda dickish but I am trying to get every color that was available in the US through retailers and have bought a Wavebird from Goodwill before All have been in excellent condition with all the buttons feeling nice with only Wavebird having a chewed up analog stick that requires an easy replacing Any thrift store really is good to look out for GC controllers tbh
Anyone new to melee who doesnt care about ultimate listen up a smash ultimate controller is coming out go on amazon or best buy and get up to 3 if you need it probably last chance to get it for msrp before it shoots up in price if manufacturing stops
Another site/app to take a look at for controllers is OfferUp. Some people sell some locally and in all sorts of colors and conditions. Some even have shipping for $5-$8.
I'm glad that I found this video, I've been looking around for a new _good_ gamecube controller, not necessarily because I play smash(I'm pretty garbo compared to anyone who's actually good at those games) but because I wanted to get into speedrunning some gamecube games and well, I bought a couple of new controllers from amazon for pretty cheap(parents like to play a lot of mario kart double dash and they find the controllers work just fine for playing that) but they're pretty bad all things considered and I can't replicate a speedrun that I did of a level in Starfox Assault with them, I just can't, and my old controllers are kinda... well, dying, took like a good 14 years but the analog sticks and stuff are kinda starting to lose their luster(that's nintendium for ya, takes _forever_ for that stuff to wear down) I checked out this video because I know how competitive Smash Bros Melee can be and with all the insanely fast tricks that I've seen, I came to the conclusion that if I found a gamecube controller recommended by a Melee player, it would probably be the thing to buy if I planned on speedrunning.
Thanks :D I actually managed to get a $20 used gamecube controller from gamestop of all places and the thing works basically perfect, only complaint is that the Z button doesn't have the audible click, but it still feels exactly the same, other than that, it's pretty great.
Ok for all the people who want to save 11 minutes of your life: - You can get a brand new controller on eBay and Amazon ( it might be expensive but it's worthy! ) - You can get a used one from local seller on Craiglist/Kijiji - You can simply buy them at any electronic stores 2 or 3 months before/after the new smash bros comes out. Yeah and as he mentionned every seconds of his video, you should search for an official controller and not a third party one.
I only use nintendo branded controllers on my nintendo entertainment system super Nintendo entertainment system and nintendo game cube i clean my controllers and they work excellent
I've been hoarding every GC controller I've found at every yard sale, flea market, thrift store, and independent game store I've found for years. People used to call me crazy - now they ask me if they can borrow a spare...

hmm unfortunately any changes aesthetic or function costs a pretty penny, at least right now :( i wish that wasnt the case but companies hopefully will come into the controller market and competition will drive the price now because for example, custom buttons will cost around $20. the cheaper alternative is painting them but i have never done that personally and i also do not recommend that since it can cause your buttons to stick. if you saw my video on custom buttons, those (as far as i know) are around the cheapest options available at the moment. i cant even personally afford like a paint job on my controllers if i wanted to rn which is why my main controller just has that Pachimari sticker on it lol
zenith SSBM Alright man, thanks anyway. But now that I know custom buttons can be as low as 20$, I might invest in them
for sure! i already covered Battle Beaver and Smash Proof, and i plan to cover more brands in the near future!
It is a huge "your location may vary" but I get 90 percent of my controllers for any system at goodwills/yard sales. it takes some luck, but getting, sometimes up to 4 official ones at a time for 2-5 bucks each, is pretty solid.
Brendex ehhhhhhwtf
You should make a new one for finding controllers in 2020
Congrats on 1k. + nice content dude !!!
''Lets say you dont have any friends'' yeah that sounds about right
Wished i stumbled upon this video earlier. Got a 3rd party controller off of amazon and it started drifting in 2 hours. After that i saw your channel and this video and got a used official controller from amazon for 20 bucks. It feels much better
damn, sorry to hear. at least you have a proper controller now!
Now they are $125
Jimmy Myer R.I.P. me
They’re resealing them.
Jimmy Myer is it on amazon
now 195-200$
whoo, so happy I bought em when they were 20
On the topic of 3rd Party being the worst... That statement has yet to be proven wrong.
As someone who has casually played Melee/Brawl and semi-competitive Sm4sh, I have tried 3rd party twice. Those controllers will wear out VERY quickly and usually you'll enjoy about a month's worth of play time with them before the problems get REALLY bad with them (i.e. the buttons requiring you to push down with your thumb all the way just to get a response, big dead zone, etc.)
On the flip side, the Official controllers always seem to be the most well-made.
Gg on 400 subs
FoUrSide thanks man :)
3.1k now ;)
400 hahah check again
FoUr 4000 subs*
Haha 5000
As a recent buyer of the new smash ultimate controller and a used controller from GameStop, I can say that they clean only the outside of the controllers, the dead zones are much higher (from use of course), and they have the metal pieces on the triggers. If you like broken in go controllers with braces for half the price tho, get a GameStop used controller.
Amazon just put up the pre order for Official Smash Ultimate edition gamecube controllers
they are $30 PLEASE BUY THEM NOW or pay the highly gouged prices a year down from now
damn, didn't realize this was a thing until I just saw this comment
I have a membership at my local GameStop which let's me pre-order smash ultimate, the branded adapter, and controller for $75
Wow. I never knew my dusty old Gamecube controller is more reliable than those other controllers. Tnx for the video man!
I bought a clear controller and it moves terribly
FRAME3 i agree, theyre awful! 3rd party right? gotta spread awareness so no more players fall for them
I bought an official clear one for 25$ on eBay and it works amazing!
zenith SSBM the controller was official
I wouldn't be so quick to jump the gun and blame him... I tried a clear controller once and have to say, nada. A solid colored, official GC controller is basically the most solid and safe choice.
Energy Blast savage 😂
Facebook groups that primarily sell games and other stuff is a good choice, if it's in-state that's good, some people don't know what they're worth and just want to get rid of the controller and console for a reasonable price.
i remember when i was younger having gc controller by madcat i think and they were always glitching like i had to reconect them few times while playing but i also had a ntdo one that worked and still work perfectly
RIP Madcatz lol always hated having to play on those
シノン【 ライラ ou
My Madcats are good
Im happy i have found untested gamecube controllers and they all work i love that
the gamestop's gamecube controller is like bit good
I love how interactive you Are with the coments
thanks man! i try my best to keep up :)
"Let's say you don't have any friends." Wow... Do you need to talk?
I spent around $15 on new thumbstick caps and a triwig screwdriver. I bought some used platinum controllers with no rubber padding on the thumbsticks so i popped them open and cleaned out the plastic cases, and replaced the thumbstick caps on them.
I got one of mine at a thrift store for $2
wow no kidding? and the official one? thats a hell of a deal!
Yep they don't get gaming tech and how valuable. They sold a special edition Wii with two games for $20
Wow, i already thought that I have made a great deal: 30€ for 2 almost new original controller
Ps all stars?
5:15 feelsbadman
I actually found my wavebird on Facebook market for my local area. My local gameshop also only accepts official controllers, going as far as to examine them prior to buying. My other two were opened and cleaned prior to me buying them, but other than the shop I'm the second owner... All of my sisters were with us from the beginning. I'm very lucky to live in a spot where GameCube was popular back then. All of mine respond exceptionally well, even my now heavily modded wavebird!
Can you make a video on how and where to find a good quality gamecube controller adapter for pc? BTW nice video
sure man! on the way
Thanks, looking forward to it
id recommend getting the mayflash adapter off of like amazon. only like $15 and im happy with my purchase
Spencer c it also works for the switch, which i think is pretty cool
The official ones are better actually. The mayflash ones have been known to drop inputs or stop working in certain ports.
If youre in the canada toronto pickering area, theres a fantastic used games store called we got gamez, which offers multiple colours of gc controllers from 40-50 cad, while also letting you try the controllers out on a melee setup before you buy
I order a game cube controller on amazon on original not a third party one
SamSmb3 good choice👍🏼 for how much?
www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0002Y5180/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o01_s00?ie=UTF8&th=1
SamSmb3 is it good? I am looking to buy a controller aswell so i just wanted to know
SamSmb3 h
It works ? I also bought a platinum GameCube controller on Amazon
There is a problem
Official GC controller's cost twice as wii. (Hey 1 dolar equals 7 bucks in my country plus+%20 tax and another %20 tax + about 13 bucks). Ebay is pain to use because shipping from America makes it harder.
Help
one word: editing. you need to cut down the amount of stuff you say in videos. there's good information hidden within rambling
yea its def the biggest thing i am going to work on for these informational style videos!
That thumbnail:
Salesperson: This controller is 40$
Buyer: I have three dollars
Lol 😆
Is it just me or are smash 4 controller 100$?
Jun Zebra in a mall I go to they sell all kind of stuff and a smash 4 GameCube controller is $30
lucky
online the prices are ridiculous now. def go used
zenith SSBM for real
Lol yep, too expensive.
Really really helped, thank you so much, been using friends GCs at my school club and I just wanted to always own one for the club, and than you again for the notice of GameStop controllers hahaha
8:35 that's not safe
I just LOVE the Japanese White, it's such a beauty and it goes so well with the OG Wii.
Buy from goomy
Buy from TechKen
Please be aware that Nintendo just released updated GameCube controllers specifically for SSBU on 2 November, and that they are far cheaper but of equal quality to the original controllers.
would they be compatible with the gamecube console? as in do they have the same port
PakkiNakki yes
Great video, i thought you were going to start dropping underground websites i didn't know of, but for a beginner this is a really good vid.
I know this might sound weird, but if you're buying a used GameCube controller, buying on on GameStop's online store is great. GameCube controllers on eBay go around $20-$25, and if occasionally you can pick one up on GameStop's webstie for $15 and $13 if you are part of some rewards program. I bought 4 for $50 and all of them look brand new and they come in a bag to hold your controller in
My friend gave me his GameCube controller official controller so glad I have one really happy
I’m so glad I have 2 of the Smash 4 GameCube controllers.
I just bought two official black smash bros gamecube controllers online, they work great, never had any issues.
A retro game store in Vista CA sells used GC Controls. OEM Nintendo ones. They're around $10 for good condition and $12+ for great condition.
Otoniel Garza wow, thats an amazing deal! only reason i didnt include flea markets in my video was just cause its so hit or miss there but yea as you showed def chances for great deals there
Thanks for this. This would be great help for new players like me.
MARIOX75 Wow I didn’t know that. That’s good news.
controller chaos is also a great place if youre willing to spend the extra money
If you're in Canada, Kijiji is a great option. Got all 3 of my current controllers there in great condition for $10 a peice, you just gotta be patient. I also got a lot of 5 fully working but bad condition ones for $5 each that I can use when friends who don't play smash come over.
Ive bought so many nintendo brand game cube controllers that are practically new for 5$ or lower at goodwills or flea markets.
ive been using a gamestop controller thinking its the official for like 2 years now. went to friends house and tried their controller. There is a huge difference.
once you go official, you dont go back haha
I really like how the official controllers look professional, awesome and legit when I play smash bros and even NBA street
Worked at GameStop. Can confirm that they don't test controllers. "If it looks fine, it must work real good, right???"
wow not surprising in the slightest but disappointing lol
at my GameStop, they're selling pre-owned smash 4 controllers
I live in Vancouver, WA and here, the Goodwill that is close to my house almost ALWAYS carries Gamecube controllers for as little as 3.99, I don't horde them as that's kinda dickish but I am trying to get every color that was available in the US through retailers and have bought a Wavebird from Goodwill before
All have been in excellent condition with all the buttons feeling nice with only Wavebird having a chewed up analog stick that requires an easy replacing
Any thrift store really is good to look out for GC controllers tbh
Anyone new to melee who doesnt care about ultimate listen up a smash ultimate controller is coming out go on amazon or best buy and get up to 3 if you need it probably last chance to get it for msrp before it shoots up in price if manufacturing stops
Another site/app to take a look at for controllers is OfferUp.
Some people sell some locally and in all sorts of colors and conditions.
Some even have shipping for $5-$8.
I'm glad that I found this video, I've been looking around for a new _good_ gamecube controller, not necessarily because I play smash(I'm pretty garbo compared to anyone who's actually good at those games) but because I wanted to get into speedrunning some gamecube games and well, I bought a couple of new controllers from amazon for pretty cheap(parents like to play a lot of mario kart double dash and they find the controllers work just fine for playing that) but they're pretty bad all things considered and I can't replicate a speedrun that I did of a level in Starfox Assault with them, I just can't, and my old controllers are kinda... well, dying, took like a good 14 years but the analog sticks and stuff are kinda starting to lose their luster(that's nintendium for ya, takes _forever_ for that stuff to wear down)
I checked out this video because I know how competitive Smash Bros Melee can be and with all the insanely fast tricks that I've seen, I came to the conclusion that if I found a gamecube controller recommended by a Melee player, it would probably be the thing to buy if I planned on speedrunning.
happy to hear man! good luck on speedrunning!
Thanks :D
I actually managed to get a $20 used gamecube controller from gamestop of all places and the thing works basically perfect, only complaint is that the Z button doesn't have the audible click, but it still feels exactly the same, other than that, it's pretty great.
yea some z buttons are more "mushy" than others but they could actually feel different after being broken in! also good find for $20!
Yeah, but what I mean is, the button feels new, it just doesn't have the audible click for some reason, but beyond that, it's great :D
“Speedrunning” yeay you have my attention there😏 which games?
They sometimes sell GameCube controllers at a flea market in chicago, as well as Xbox, Xbox 360, and N64 controllers
5:17
I came here to get good controller. now im just kinda depressed
I don’t know if you even make vids anymore... but with slippi recently coming out, I’m sure an updated vid would be appreciated by a lot of people.
I got 2 for $18 each at a small business in my hometown. Both work great, so I would highly recommend looking into local small businesses.
custom art GameCube contollers where they at? Having a sick ganondorf one would be sick!
Hey bro, I have a question: where did you get that fire emblem logo on your controller? And can I get one with the Persona 5 (Joker) logo?
just slap a sticker on the controller lol
So if I wanted a cheap option to replace gamecube buttons, I could buy 3rd party ones to replace the worn out 1st party ones?
Ok for all the people who want to save 11 minutes of your life:
- You can get a brand new controller on eBay and Amazon ( it might be expensive but it's worthy! )
- You can get a used one from local seller on Craiglist/Kijiji
- You can simply buy them at any electronic stores 2 or 3 months before/after the new smash bros comes out.
Yeah and as he mentionned every seconds of his video, you should search for an official controller and not a third party one.
I only use nintendo branded controllers on my nintendo entertainment system super Nintendo entertainment system and nintendo game cube i clean my controllers and they work excellent
Right now, Amazon is selling official GameCube controllers for pre-order at $30 and free shipping. They will release Dec 31, 2018.
i got a smash 4 controller for like 74 usd but it was a good price given that before, it was like 100+ usd so yeah that was a good price on amazon
