You make the most important point in this situation. The current government is trying to criminalise genuine political opposition. They pose an actual threat to democracy. I invited him in and he sat on my couch. He had on a black suit. I have a long haired white cat.
Almost broke out laughing when he got up to leave.

One of the things my attorney and also a dear friend who was a US attorney have told me is the NEVER cooperate with law enforcement in any way in an official capacity. If they are focused on you for any reason they are looking to jam you up for leverage. You cannot be prosecuted for refusing to cooperate. But you can be prosecuted for saying anything to them because they can and will twist what you say and accuse you of lying which will be the leverage. Simply hand them your attorneys card and say NOTHING. Also NEVER consent to a search or anything else. Don't resist but don't consent. NEVER invite them into your home and NEVER "step outside" voluntarily to speak with them, or voluntarily go with them for any reason. Certainly never resist but if they can force you they wouldn't be asking. Never admit to anything,, never sign anything and absolutely NEVER EVER voluntarily give them anything or believe a word they say.
I agree with the general point you are making but I really wish people would stop saying things like "You cannot be prosecuted for refusing to cooperate." Let's be clear, that what the FBI did was a criminal prosecution. She was being prosecuted even before she cooperated or refused to cooperate because the FBI was engaged in prosecutorial actions. This is important to clarify because the Sixth Amendment guarantees people some rights that would be pointless otherwise. When you parse the Sixth Amendment it becomes clear what it says is that a person has certain rights at any point the government is acting against them in a matter of a criminal nature. You can stop reading here if you want, but I'm going to share why it is a very concerning problem that people are starting to limit the term "prosecute" to specific situations even though in our Constitution it's general.
Here are the rights of the Sixth Amendment broken down into list format.
"In all criminal prosecutions, the accused shall enjoy the right to...
1) a speedy and public trial
2) an impartial jury of the State and district wherein the crime shall have been committed
3) be informed of the nature and cause of the accusation
4) be confronted with the witnesses against him
5) have compulsory process for obtaining witnesses in his favor
6) have the Assistance of Counsel for his defence
It's important that we don't let those who wish to violate the Constitutional rights of others to limit the term "prosecute" to only things related to or part of "a speedy and public trial." The other rights enumerated aren't subsidiary rights of the right to a "speedy and public trial" instead they are separate and distinct rights. It's obvious, that the FBI who are employees of the President and Attorney General of the United States weren't at her home for coffee and tea. The FBi acting on information it received was engaged in a "criminal prosecution" when they chose to act on that. Their visit to her home was a "criminal prosecution" because they were engaged in prosecutorial acts and were exercising the prosecutorial power. Your points are great ones but every time we say "You cannot be prosecuted for refusing to cooperate" we mislead people into thinking that getting a visit from the FBI at your home isn't a prosecution but it is.

The moment the FBI or others have shown they are engaged in a "criminal prosecution" it's best to invoke the right to Assistance of Counsel and the right to be informed of the nature and cause of the accusation against you. Counsel should also be willing to go to court to force the government and prosecutors to end a criminal prosecution or to grant the accused the right to a "speedy and public trial." Since the FBI had enough to question her, they should have enough to go to trial. If they don't, the Courts should force them to end the criminal prosecution they started. People do not have to spend weeks, months, years or decades knowing that the government is engaged in a criminal prosecution against them because the government's prosecutors feel that they need more time to investigate.
Imagine a situation where the FBI starts questioning the family, friends and neighbors of someone about them and the FBI takes months or years to decide "we are done prosecuting and will stop all our prosecutorial efforts." During this time the right of the people to their good reputation has been harmed. You made some really great points and I agree with them. The only thing I have seen that is troubling is that it is becoming more and more common for people to separate "prosecution" from "investigation" but our founders didn't, and the U.S. Constitution doesn't separate the two. The Sixth Amendment could just as easily read today:

I would have never invited them in. I would have demanded they produce a warrant, and demanded I consult with my attorney before going anywhere with them. And the door would have remained closed.
