I'm not really one or the other. However, I have noticed conservatives will be friends with anyone whereas liberals will exclude anyone who is different and give the silent treatment.

I see this every day. My friends and I have agreed to disagree. We always have. Friendship and family are more important than politics. It is crazy that this behavior is viewed as extraordinary.
Todays environment of divisiveness is being pushed by the talking heads , politicians, and others with agendas . We don't usually wear our politics on our sleeves as we go about our daily interactions , you're either a person of character or you are not . Character is the defining attribute I personally seek in the people I meet . Race , religion , politics , class and philosophies can all be ignored or debated . The American people are hardworking , kind and generous . It's too bad our culture is no longer celebrating these common attributes .
What I find "extraordinary" is that someone would ignore the CRUELTY that these people condone, and treat them as if they didn't support violence against others of ethnic diversity and racial diversity... When I told my conservative friends that I had gone to a trump rally they looked at me like I was crazy! And I had to argue with them and tell them these people were so down to earth and cool and awesome to be with! I had to tell them that they weren't what the media had painted them to be and I was defending Trump supporters from other conservatives Christians Catholics etc it's really sad what the media has done to slander Trump supporters and to divide this country. And everyone used to argue that Trump was so divisive but the reality is it's the media that is divisive! There's the truth.

We have a ton of people willing to sit down and talk to the other side and see what they are about.m.they just all tend to be on the conservative side. When a liberal comes over to actually meet and speak to conservatives with civility and genuine interest it's news worthy because it's is extremely rare. I was a liberal during Obama’s term and my son and I decided to attend a Tea Party meeting to see what sort of people attended. To our surprise we were treated with the utmost respect. I have long hair and am covered in tattoos and was really surprised at how welcoming they were. After listening to what they had to say I found out I had a lot more in common with them than the Democrats. I’ve never looked back and sometimes I wonder how I ever bought in to all the socialist crap.

They are pretty cool (at least the Liberals in Florida). My girlfriend is a liberal and I went with her to a pro-choice rally filled with Liberals to be supportive of her choices even though I don't agree with her. Surprisingly the people there were cool with me even though I'm a conservative. Many of us even went to a bar afterwards for fun and to discuss movies/tv shows. Now this would have probably ended up differently if I went to NY or Chicago, but Florida liberals are pretty cool (at least from my experience in the Jacksonville area).

Several years ago I met a lady at my town’s aquatic center. I was walking the resistance pool. I happened to be walking in pace with another lady and we started talking. We were just visiting and laughing about whatever when the conversation turned to politics. She asked if I was a conservative. I told her I was. She immediately told me she couldn’t be friends with me, I asked her why, and she said because we don’t agree on politics. I told her that her politics wouldn’t bother me and that I don’t know of anyone who agrees 100% with another person, that’s what makes relationships interesting and exciting! She wasn’t having it. This has pretty much been my experience with liberals, they just don’t want to take the chance of having to ‘defend’ their views. They get uncomfortable very fast when you go from macro to micro conversations. It seems details upset them….
In my experience liberals have their hearts in the right place and feel deeply passionate about certain things... but when the problem isn't solved by the liberal policies they mentally disconnect and clam up.

It's less important that liberals and conservatives disagree on things, and more important that we agree on others. You can spend your whole life looking at the negative aspects of everything, but that will never bring happiness or contentment. When you have a choice to look at the negative or positive, you will be much more comfortable (and tolerable to others) choosing the positive side. Don't give in to the fire being stoked by media and politicians making you dislike people simply for having those differing opinions. And yes, talking to people with alternative or differing ideas CAN teach you something. Anyone who thinks otherwise does not understand the need for diverse thoughts and opinions. That is how the world evolved to where we are today, for better or for worse. Someone out there once said "Huh, I wonder if we rotate crops, will our fields grow more food?" and they did it. If we shut those people down just because we don't want to hear something different, we will never achieve progress. I love this! I have lost friends because I’m not on their political view- and I hear them say things like-‘I can’t be friends with someone who doesn’t support my political views.’ It’s very sad for me. I was raised to see EVERYONE EQUAL- no matter what, to find common ground and then be able to have conversation over the differences or not…. But not to hate because of the differences…. I give you lots of credit for doing this AND for being able to think outside the box that some people (all political views,) stay within….I applaud you and thank you 👌

And I had to argue with them and tell them these people were so down to earth and cool and awesome to be with! I had to tell them that they weren't what the media had painted them to be and I was defending Trump supporters from other conservatives Christians Catholics etc it's really sad what the media has done to slander Trump supporters and to divide this country. I was a liberal during Obama’s term and my son and I decided to attend a Tea Party meeting to see what sort of people attended. To our surprise we were treated with the utmost respect. I have long hair and am covered in tattoos and was really surprised at how welcoming they were. After listening to what they had to say I found out I had a lot more in common with them than the Democrats. I’ve never looked back and sometimes I wonder how I ever bought in to all the socialist crap.

They are pretty cool (at least the Liberals in Florida). My girlfriend is a liberal and I went with her to a pro-choice rally filled with Liberals to be supportive of her choices even though I don't agree with her. Surprisingly the people there were cool with me even though I'm a conservative. Many of us even went to a bar afterwards for fun and to discuss movies/tv shows.
Now this would have probably ended up differently if I went to NY or Chicago, but Florida liberals are pretty cool (at least from my experience in the Jacksonville area).
I mean as long as he is nice and respectful like he is here it would probably be the same. Most people that show up to opposite party events are looking to start stuff.

Several years ago I met a lady at my town’s aquatic center. I was walking the resistance pool. I happened to be walking in pace with another lady and we started talking. We were just visiting and laughing about whatever when the conversation turned to politics. She asked if I was a conservative. I told her I was. She immediately told me she couldn’t be friends with me, I asked her why, and she said because we don’t agree on politics. I told her that her politics wouldn’t bother me and that I don’t know of anyone who agrees 100% with another person, that’s what makes relationships interesting and exciting! She wasn’t having it. This has pretty much been my experience with liberals, they just don’t want to take the chance of having to ‘defend’ their views. They get uncomfortable very fast when you go from macro to micro conversations. It seems details upset them….
In my experience liberals have their hearts in the right place and feel deeply passionate about certain things... but when the problem isn't solved by the liberal policies they mentally disconnect and clam up.
Liberalism is a mental disorder. Your example is exactly why they always end up destroying themselves. They demand 100% obedience to the orthodoxy and if they don't get it, you're ex communicated. Eventually, the circle becomes so small there's no one left.

Honestly, I don't know, or have never witnessed a conservative that would refuse to speak or consider friendship with someone whose politics are liberal. I HAVE witnessed multiple cases of liberals defiantly and obnoxiously refusing to speak with or even consider a friendship with a conservative.
It seems like it goes only one way as far as being open to other ideas and being friends with those people.

It's less important that liberals and conservatives disagree on things, and more important that we agree on others. You can spend your whole life looking at the negative aspects of everything, but that will never bring happiness or contentment. When you have a choice to look at the negative or positive, you will be much more comfortable (and tolerable to others) choosing the positive side. Don't give in to the fire being stoked by media and politicians making you dislike people simply for having those differing opinions.
And yes, talking to people with alternative or differing ideas CAN teach you something. Anyone who thinks otherwise does not understand the need for diverse thoughts and opinions. That is how the world evolved to where we are today, for better or for worse. Someone out there once said "Huh, I wonder if we rotate crops, will our fields grow more food?" and they did it. If we shut those people down just because we don't want to hear something different, we will never achieve progress. Not saying all liberal ideas lead to progress, I personally don't believe they do... but someone out there might take a portion of those ideas and turn them into something good one day.
