This is what acting means.! Amazing the performance of both of them.. breath taking!
This scene was incredible
I know, with 4 girls of my own, scene hard to watch, gives me the shakes.
When she cried “ help me “ I lost it 😫 that’s how it feels when you’re grieving too hard !
nobody can help you either :(
I've noticed that in some movies the mother says Help me when their child is murdered.never understood that..Help them find the killer, help them In there grief??
@@thegirlinquestion nobody 🤦🏾♀️
@@Carousel5883 probably both
Julia Roberts is an IMPECCABLE actress.
I agree. She's underrated in a way. She has many accolades but people always accuse her of doing the same thing over and over. I just don't agree with that. I think she is so brilliant.
This is horrible. I've known people who have lost their children..they are never the same. I never want to feel this type of pain.
Oh my God me too. It'd be unbearable. I often think about the death of young Amber Rose Rush and how her poor mother took her own life just months after because the pain was too unbearable. Just devastating.
Losing a child is the WORST pain someone could ever suffer, and it was beautifully represented here, it's incredibly hard to watch. Julia and Chiwetel are legends.
One starts to grieve with her, immediately. Her pain punches you straight in the stomach. When she reached up to him and he leaned down into the dumpster to comfort her, I cried.
Grief cannot be measured and put into categories of bad - worse - worst. It all depends on the person and their story. Losing the love of your life oder your best friend or any other important person in your life can be as crippling as losing a child; and losing a child isn't always tied to immense grief.
Watch the original
Saw an interview with the cast and learned that the director said, "we're only going to do this scene once." He understood that Roberts is a mother and just didn't want to put her through that more than once.
This was heart wrenching to watch even though it was a movie.
As soon as Julia got to the dumpster my eyes started to tear up,when she climbed in the dumpster is when my throat closed up.
One of the most realistic acting scenes ever.
And when she ripped her gloves off, to be able to touch and hold her daughter’s bare skin properly 😭😭
A superbly acted scene all around. Ejiofor played it perfectly, walking as if his legs weighed a thousand pounds each and getting heavier with each step. His eyes wild, as if searching for the right words to use to crush his friend into dust as gently as possible. Roberts transforms from cocky professional to grieving mother in an instant, abandoning decorum and procedure as she scrambles into the dumpster. A very powerful scene in an otherwise lackluster film.
I watch this scene any time I feel I need a good cry cuz it is absolutely heartbreaking…..her getting into the dumpster and potentially contaminating a crime scene is absolutely heart wrenching knowing she was acting as a Mother and not a detective….but the part that breaks me every time is how she takes her gloves off so she can actually feel her child 😩😭🥺
Julia's best acting
Heartbreaking scene. This is every parents nightmare..... Great acting.
It pains me that there are actually people out there who have done and/or will do this to somebody else's child.
Juicy Pineapple
Watch the Joker movie and you’ll understand why.
Only a wise and experienced actor can be capable of convey such raw, genuine emotion without falling into akwardness or ridicule. Julia Roberts did an amazing job indeed.
when she took the gloves off😭😭
To touch her baby
I noticed it too when I first watched this scene - such a careful little touch that made this even stronger
thats exactly when the tear dropped
It was Roberts’ idea to do this.
Yes, she was like "fuckin gloves, let me touch my baby"
When I was younger, I saw a mum lose their son. The sounds she made were very accurate. I thought I dealt with it, but after seeing this, and it being so accurate, it opened wounds, I thought I had closed.
Such a good scene. So powerful, yet so heartbreaking. Julia’s best performance I think.
Apparently it was her idea to have Jess rip the gloves off to hold Carolyn and I think that makes the scene so much more powerful.
Julia’s husband was the cameraman for this scene.Powerful and heartbreaking.
That's right, is Danny Moder the cinematographer.
This many years later and this scene still hurts me like the first time I saw it.
Have probably gone back & watched this scene countless times for at least 3 years now on & off. Tears/chills every time
I didn’t love this movie(it was decent), but this scene is unforgettable, almost purely because of Chiwetel Ejiofor’s acting! Don’t get me wrong, Julia Robert’s acting here is so believable it’s almost impossible to watch, but Ejiofor’s, walking over to his close friend, who’s having a fine day, knowing the thing he’s about to say to her will ruin her life forever, and when he gets over to her he can’t even speak. Him conveying that so believably makes this one of my favorite acting moments of the decade! He was incredible in Children of Me, 12 Years a Slave, Z for Zachariah and Doctor Strange, but this movie is Ejiofor’s best performance to date and the reason he is one of my favorite actors working today!
And Serenity.
nickyQcarter .q and don’t forget 4 brothers he’s brilliant in that with an American accent also
The original I think is Spanish and is better.
@@quileter The original is from Argentina but it’s in the Spanish language. The original is a better film, in my opinion, but (for the benefit of those who haven’t seen it) having the victim be the daughter of one of the investigating officers is a change to the original story.
@@rocheyb1 who's the victim in the original version ?
This movie was freakin phenomenal. The actors freakin shut it down. Julia Roberts slayed her ass off and I've always been a fan, but boyyy has she grown in her craft. Highly enjoyed this.
Julia Roberts is absolutely awesome in this scene.. I pray and and hope not a single person has to experience this in the real world 🙏🏾
She is the best actress ever to ever hit the screen....watch this hundred times and you will still be bawling
What a phenomenal performance that pain just rips your heart right out, how she didnt win the oscar that year is a travesty! The performance of her career, she really is amazing
I don’t think she was even nominated
As brilliant as she is, the film was overshadowed upon release. Not many really remember it, perhaps apart from this unforgettable scene.
It’s heartbreaking because your child is suppose to outlive YOU and when their lives are taken by monsters that hide but look like you and me, it breaks you more than you imagine.
When my sister lost her daughter to cancer she was never the same, she would always say that she wanted to be with her, her daughter died in 2012 when she was only 3 years old, my sister passed away in 2016 of natural causes. 💔
I’m sorry for your lost. I hope they are together now...
Sorry for your loss :'(
Ladies and gentlemen... Miss Julia Roberts.
This is some of the best acting ever. I cry every time I see this
Beyond the quality of the director and the actors themselves, this scene could be beautifully represented due to the role of one of the most painful and inhuman moments that a human being must face. Amazing scene representation
Someone asked Julia Roberts how she nailed that scene so well. She said the director told her to imagine that was either her daughter or Emma (her niece) in that container.
i tell ya that cry was fucking epic! that's acting!
The acting is just so close to reality and heartbreaking. It makes me cry everytime.
Chiwetel is such a good actor
Everything about this scene is epic. Excellent acting on both parts. The pain you as the viewer feels. I really felt her when she scrambled to take the gloves off so she could touch her daughter for the last time. This scene ripped my heart out. I could also imagine being him. Like how do you tell your coworker and friend that her baby was literally in trash. Very powerful scene
The gloves were Roberts’ idea.
This scene makes me cry every time I watch it. Just a heartbreaking beautiful scene.
The most sad scene of the history of the cinema.
Isack Carabajal2Lg don't forget artax death from the neverending story
Or mystic river
or Sophie's choice
No it’s not.
Fullmetal chemist series the dad puts the dog and child together for a science project and the brother have to kill it.
The way she has demonstrated this scene so consciously, is just purely beyond human emotions. You just feel all numb there for a moment
It’s amazing how versatile of an actor Ejiofor is. He can go from a caring, emotionally torn character here (and in the Martian while providing a bit of comic relief), to one of the most feared, cold, manipulative, and borderline abusive characters in Lion King (take it or leave it) and in Serenity. He has seriously become one of my favorite actors working today.
I've watched this scene many times and it never fails to wrench my heart out of my throat. Brilliantly acted.
i cried so bad
In this movie Julia roberts deserved to win a lot of awards! She's an excellent actress...love her 👏🏼♥️
This scene was heartbreaking, in other words excellent acting👏
she should get an oscar just for that scene.
What an INCREDIBLE performance!!! Julia Roberts is terrific! ❤️
I broke down watching this. I can hear the pain in her voice 💔
Although I didn't love this american version of the masterpiece argentinian original, I have to say this scene always breaks me. Julia Roberts is really an amazing performer. And so is Chiwetel Ejiofor, of course. That walk from the dumpster is filled with pain all over him.
Omg I just bawled like a baby..Julia Roberts is a extraordinary.
when he said "give her some room"...
her cry is so power even if it's acting I literally cry my self
I first watched this movie after giving birth to my daughter and let me tell you my post pregnant hormonal body was not ready for this scene or movie at all!
Another flawless performance by Julia roberts👏👏
Julia Roberts - you can’t get any better than that!!!! She’s BEST!!!!
Chiwetel Ejiofor's acting in this scene is also phenomenal. Imagine the horror the character felt discovering his coworkers dead daughter, and then having to TELL HER he found the body...
Imagine Being a detective and you get a case thinking in some stranger but the moment you get closer it’s your own child….lord the tears I’ve shed watching this scene 🙏😭
That scene touched me like no movie ever has before. No matter how many times you watch, it still feels real.
Wow.. Julia is BEST thing in this movie.
Agreeeeeeed. She killed this.
When I watched this movie I waited for Nicole Kidman scenes. I thought Nicole was fantastic in this even though she had a smaller part.
Scene gets me every time. Amazing performance by Julia.
If you never knew why Julia Roberts is one of the best actresses of all time.. this scene definitely explains why. She played the hell outta part!
Wow what a performance!!
This will make me cry anytime I watch it.. I am not a parent yet but this hits home
I have watched the movie 5 years ago and still it is the only movie that made me cry amazing acting
I totally lost my mind
I always associate the word "acting" to this very scene.
This is epic performance.
This scene always stuck with me, at first I couldn’t understand why an FBI agent didn’t have more professionalism about him then I understood 😭 I don’t know how Julia Roberts acted this scene being a mother herself
I think it’s because she’s a mother herself, that she was able to channel that, to bring the absolutely gutwrenching emotion needed. If she wasn’t a mother in real life, I think it would’ve been very difficult to reach that level of emotion. She did a phenomenal job! I cried so much. 😢
When she takes the gloves off 😢
beautifully done by Julia Roberts
I watched the scene so many times. This was too real. She depicted that pain just on the dot. Julia Roberts is the elite in then Film industry.
When I first saw this part, I was both in anger and rage and sadness.
It reminded me of Lovely Bones when she realized she was dead.
I remember thinking, "Do the @#$*&"+- even THINK of who's life they are taking!? And WHAT IS GHE FREAKING JOY OR WHY DO THEY DO IT?!?!?!?!?!
NO ONE DESERVES THIS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
UGGGHHH!
I HATE MONSTERS LIKE THIS!
Why on earth.. NO OSCAR for this performance?
I never saw Julia being this heartbroken until now,
This scene alone deserves an award 10/10
Julia Roberts' expression in the film is a masterpiece I the worst nightmare for any family Our neighbor's son died of cancer (Leukemia) 😞 The father then died of a stroke mourning the death of his son
Love this scene! Julia Roberts killed it. So realistic, great acting!
This scene made me cry 💔
Heartbreaking scene 😢😢😢😢😢
While this scene was perfectly acted by Julia Roberts....the film still isn't even remotely in the same league as the original.
What year is the original
Nahji Riley 2009
This is the absolute most realistic scene I've ever watched I a movie. I literally felt her pain.
I still get chills and most importantly I still get upset with this scene and Julia's performance was right on top of her legendary career. Believe it or not it's been 10 years of this crime thriller people don't see very often. But they should watch this film.
That part got me I couldn't imagine 😢😞
Phenomenal acting by Julia Roberts, as always
This is absolutely heartbreaking....😭😭😭
Queen Julia - I bow! Amazing!!
One of the few actresses who's beauty and fame belies her extraordinary talent - what she did in this dire film, in this scene, is truly astonishing. Great actress and a great scene. Easily the only thing worth watching this mediocre for.
She is the best actress ever!
I always tear up when i watch this scene.Shes right up there with Meryl Streep
This scene reminds me of mystic river NOT MY DAUGHTER 💔😢😢
Julia Roberts is AMAZING, please this is so realistic. BIG ACTRESS
Every mother’s worst nightmare.
And that, my friends, is outstanding acting.
Ejiofor what a great acting !! So realistic.
Very good movie🖒🖒❤❤❤👏👏👏
Beautifully done Julia
This break my heart
Spoiler Alert:
I know the original movie was a masterpiece. I watched it & I completely understand why people mistreated this remake. But this was still a worthy movie to watch. The acting were still phenomenal. Especially this scene. It was sad to see Julia Robert’s bubbly lovable character turn dark. It shows how a horrible incident could really change someone.
The main gist of the story is the same but with different characters. I have to say I love both films. The original is about a grieving husband while here is a mother instead. Different attacks to the story with the same plotline. I suggest you watch this American version first, then watch the original Argentine film.
Overall, I would still recommend both.
When she took off her gloves to touch and fell her baby one more time. It broke me.
Julia Roberts is an amazing actress.
This was a remake of a 2009 Oscar-winning film of the same name (translated from Spanish) from Argentina. Between the two films, there are many shot-for-shot duplicate scenes where the only real difference is the language being spoken or, in one memorable technical set-piece, the sport being played while our protagonists search for their suspect in a packed stadium.
But in the original, the victim is not related to any of the investigators so there is no parallel of this particular scene. And while the original is much the superior film, across the two movies, this is the stand out scene. We weren’t introduced to the daughter prior to this scene, so Chiwetel’s reaction doesn’t quite make sense at first - I wonder what hit the cutting room floor that might have given useful context - but Julia Roberts has never been better than in that horrific moment. Jumping all over the crime scene, the repeated, desperate wailing of a useless “Help me!” (I wonder if that was in the script or a choice she made on-set), stripping off her gloves to lay her hands on her daughter. CSI Grissom certainly wouldn’t approve but it’s an entirely believable human reaction - and this US remake stands up because of it.
This movie is a copy of the famous Argentine movie with the same name which won several award I supposed .
It's not a copy but a remake. Not the same since they paid for the rights to do it. Both films are amazing and I like the original a little bit more.
@@manuelenrique9220 its literally copy why would u make a remake of perfect movie
Last night I had a dream that I suspected my daughter was murdered, it was so vivid (I had missed some dosages of seizure meds and it can cause vivid nightmares) This was no ordinary nightmare. I saw everything clear as day. Felt the despair, the gut punch: in my dream my daughter returned at the last few seconds of my dream. I spent those seconds holding her and not breathing, like a baby who cries holding its breath. I woke up grunting and gasping from actually holding my breath.i broke into wailing and it took 10 minutes to calm down despite it being a dream. I can not imagine it happening for real.
1:35 omg I have serious goosebumps
