Wish the interviewers were actual users who are excited about snapchat instead of skeptical rude old people
Is this a deposition or and interview?
These old people are so rude. Interrupting and not letting the speaker talk because they HAVE to get out one more word
They interrupt people who aren't answering the question, or are haranguing the audience at depth. This is supposed to be an informal discussion, not a forum for sales pitches.
I tend to agree, he did seem to drill a bit too much with the diversity topic in the middle of the video, i thought that was a bit unnecessary. I dont think the questions are bad, if they open up new conversational avenues, thats great but as i said, in some occasions, being forceful can appear dickish like it did with diversity segment.
"three-part business model"
OH.well.
I can guarantee you the host is a tough mom. Friends of her kids probably don't want to come over...
lol I saw this comment a few months ago and laughed and now again lol
too funny
For real
lol
If you notice he really answered all the audience questions really well. But the two hosts were not doing a great job of interviewing him.
The audience asked better questions than the interviewers!
He's so humble.
Great interview! I respect Evan & Snapchat, but at 24:00 he evaded & then later dismissed the issue of diversity rather arrogantly.
I love that the interviewer doubled down. An awkward pause is no bad thing - it indicates the interviewee is being taken off script & having limitations of understanding exposed.
This interview struck the perfect balance of appreciating what makes the interviewee’s company unique & holding him accountable, challenging him on blindspots.
The fact that the interviewers are not snapchat users is a boon, esp as they are humble about not being the target demographic.
the interviewers asked all the wrong questions - someone who actually uses snapchat should have interviewed him
I like the idea of that, like have three people interviewing him that use it for three different purposes maybe? that should also apply to interviews with Kevin Systrom of IG and others
Super awkward, I'm 60 but these interviewers seem positively Jurassic!
I dont think this interview is bad. In fact I actually feel its great. People are the way they are. I think its more interesting to be able to manouvre a conversation at its bare bones. Sometimes, just because the questions are not structured the ideal way doesnt mean that you cant provide responses that will further engage the conversation. It takes two to tango.
It's even more fascinating with the gogodolls intro.
They should interview Gary Vee, to destroy the basic questions, and the "how"you do this, tell me "how", how, how...and also about snapchat game. If they think snapchat is for the "my kids" they missed the bus.
They talk about diversity and gender discrimination but AGE DISCRIMINATION IS WORSE IN SILICON VALLEY
the reality of the situation is that the psychology of his intention of calling it an "entertainment company" falls in line with Myspace especially in the height to entice investors it will be a portal for entertainment in this information age. Moreover, while also adding his intention to count users hourly as opposed to monthly, the stagnation of new users monthly is really growing in actuality as Feb 2017. I predict in the future that this is the next twitter and the psychological repercussions of social media might be a downfall in our so-called "social crises" here in America.
This interview is as Useless as Snapchat !
I stopped watching when he entered to stage because I am sure of it.
What a roast
You don't get 2 old capitalist to interview young tech billionaires- your questions just becomes obsolete
I must admit I haven't cringed in a while.
Reminds me of sitting at an oral exam where if I don't answer like a computer I'm automatically stupid.
This interview was so painful to watch.
I stopped this video 4 minutes in.
Elon's interview is much cooler than this one
elon musk
Elon Musk Interviews are always awesome
Well, Elon talks about sending rockets to Mars, and Evan talks about press-and-hold buttons. So, yeah, maybe just a little.
Both guys are awesome
he's such a slow guy though.
Great Interview! Evan Inspires me.
go watch the Elon Musk Interview, HE is the true inspiration
Saul Ramirez jack ma is better than elon musk in terms of inspiring.Elon musk is like god to me but he is terrible in speaking. His work inspire me more than his words
Snapchat's 3-part business model:
Part 1: collect underpants.
Part 2:
Part 3: Profit
15 minutes in and I'm wondering why I hate the hosts so much, but then I realize it's cause they're old and rude and the rest of the comment sections hates them too so now I'm calm again
30 minutes in. I'm no longer calm. He is clearly uncomfortable. WHY DO THEY SUCK SO MUCH.
Why are the majority of the comments about the people giving this interview?
Kara Swisher: Founder of popular tech news source Recode, previously wrote for Wall Street Journal, and as been referred to as, "Silicon Valley’s Most Feared and Well-Liked Journalist" - Seems pretty qualified to ask the right questions to me.
Walt Mossberg: Principal technology columnist for The Wall Street Journal 1991-2013. In 2001 he won the World Technology Award for Media and Journalism and received an honorary Doctorate of Law from the University of Rhode Island - Sounds like an impressive guy.
the video is proof positive that Miranda Kerr is after this dudes $$
Steve Jobs or Evan Spiegel? What about Elon Musk? Did they forget that SnapChat was just a photo app that got a strong user base for sexting? Go build rocket or move personal computing in phones and we'll put you up there with Jobs and Musk.
That's not really fair to him. He hasn't had the time to do what they've done yet
S Brooks give elon 5 to 7 years to land on mars
nicolasap86 how about Bill Gates?
I wish you could choose to not see the media stories. I don't wanna see them
These interviewers are dying to get a headline comment from Evan. Smh. Focus on the product like he is.
Just my immediate thoughts. Snapchat is like a newer Twitter but videos vs. writing. I'm just curious how it fits with modes of persuasion. Is it more resentment in written form, or via physical demonstration? 🤔☯️☸️💟💜💚
you're like ten years late my g
So how's snapchat improving the world...?
*narcissistic expression
There goal is to get a lot of engagement in the app so they can help businesses around the world to make money from their end.
I feel if i didn't recognize whats his name, he would get mad
What are the names of the interviewers?
this dude is a billionaire
amazing host... fried him like anything n he is at his best... way to go Evan... Super Amazing Mindset!!!
It seems like recode interviewers do not ask the good questions.
They need to hire better interviewers.
They need to make Apple Watch have Snapchat, or advance that. I feel like that is the future
I want to know if I can get to know my relatives and loved ones better. Though my daughter is running late for school as I am in my parents house, 🙃, can I take her there in April?
what the
Awful interviewers
"100 million in developed markets". That sure came to bite him in the ass. TikTok and LINE are laughing
Whys his shirt so big
😂😂😂 facts
shout out to CP
India ki baat kab hoti ha koi batayega ???plz
Where's the Musk one?
Both of these interviewers are terrible and come across very rude. Especially the male 23:55
True, Both the oldies should have retired long time ago. Now he sounds like an "Old Grandfather clock" and a really old one, trying to fit in the Chronograph watch era
I personally found the moment very awkward BUT, an interview is done in order to project the views, vision, character and beliefs of the interviewee and a good interviewer must never hold back. The truth is that diversity is an issue that evan was not prepared to confront. And since he 's faced a lot of controversy towards that specific issue it is very logical that he would be asked about that. However he 's still 25 and noone can expect him to be able to handle everything perfectly.
By the way by pointing out that he is 25 you made a "prejudiced statement", for age has nothing to do with capability, in today's world.
Also, diversity is not an IT specific problem, as it is made out to be, by the interviewer. For anything you know, IT industry in fact is one of the biggest promoter to diverse work culture with from a gender and LGBT point of view (considering they are main two). The fact that in IT you can pretty much be locational "agnostic" helps you to really to be able to push the agenda of diverse workforce. But there is also a flip side to problem because, the other half of your workforce should not feel discriminated in the process. Also there are cultural ramifications not having all employees in the same locations " atleast at a startup stage" for a company.
My point is that, "Startups" should not be riddled with such complex matters of diverse workforce management. Startup should be focused on one and only one thing - Innovation and value.
That moment was so cringeworthy. Like what the hell is the point of that question? I don't care about that.
Chris Dixon k
what is the point of instantly expressing myself? I am not a child! Snapchat and IG the whole model of their existence is instantly expressing yourself! I don't get it.
Lol go Evan. Keep doing your thing, my man.
LOL
No, not really.
Yes,absolutely
I really dislike the woman. Her questions are bad and she is not sympathetic.
that is one baggy shirt
Snapchat is a great app, BUT this interview was anticlimactic
he needs a new t-shirts though,
dirty white t-shirt of the wrong size is the new black turtle neck, or something.
aaron4820 LOL,
Elon Musk's interview was so much better than Evan Spiegel's. Musk is also a better person than Spiegel these days.
Jazil Zaim That's your opinion, bad interviews should be blamed on the people asking the questions. As far as who is a better person that's playing God so I won't judge them. But comparing a 26 year old guy to a 46 year old guy 20 years older is not fair.
Interviewers are terrible!
So Snapchat has diverse skill sets, not diverse in race, culture...
And they’re doing fine. It’s as if it doesn’t influence a company at all!
Evan Spiegel needs to start working out more.
btw3006 lol
Trickzy I'm just saying the truth. Look at my photo. Imagine a billionaire CEO with my body. It would be incredible
btw3006 he married miranda kerr...he's doing much better than you. And me lmao
Can I join my wish, in Australia? I want to stay married.
It's ridiculous for lefty journos to interrogate tech companies about diversity. They hire the best qualified candidate. If a female or black candidate is the best qualified then they are not going to hire a less qualified male or non black and hurt their own company for some supposed sexist or racist reason. If there is an issue with not enough women or racial minorities going to work in high tech engineering then the reasons are either that women are less attracted to those jobs and racial minorities are not as qualified. The solution to both is 'not' to ask the tech companies to change that reality. The answer in the case of women is to accept that they are not as attracted tot he field. After all, you don't see the fashion, makeup or general beauty industry obsessing on the fact that not as many men go into the beauty industry. In the case of racial minorities not being as qualified for tech industry jobs the answer is to look at families, communities and to some extent schooling. They produce the talent. It's not the job of tech companies to accept sub standard candidates just so liberals can delude themselves that there isn't an issue. Also, Yahoo has Asians working for the company at a rate TWENTY ONE times their proportion to the population but don't see the lefty hosts wringing their hands about that.
I didn't like the line of their questioning. It is like a journalist is interviewing a politician.
the worst interviewers
Very awkward... 24:20 😒😒
Now he's a billionaire now go to bed you two oldies
lol
Hi
Why they got these old heads on here interviewing him
Why are people so sucked at this snapchat?
Ago American farmer thousand relation farm genius shade.
lol @ benevolent fascist
nee bonda raa nee bonda mother board
Use it first then ask question..rude!
blah blah blah 😦😦😦
I like how he dodges the issue of diversity. It's so awkward and you know he doesn't think deeply about this issue. But he's a made man so why should he?
It's quite a stupid question. You cannot suddenly take the world's top violinists and say why are they not .024351% Fijian. People choose their specialties as they grow up, their parent and many other factors weigh in on it. It's not reasonable to have to have percentages to fufill. Meritocracy free of racism is how to run things.
Are you blind or just live under a rock? You give me two software engineers, one white, the other black, with the exact same skill set and tell me who has the probability of getting hired.
Stop lazily relying on that meritocracy crutch-you know there are social issues that need to be sorted in this country. But everyone wants to act like it doesn't exist.
Get real.
4 times out of 5, the black engineer would be chosen? That makes sense to you? So then how is there a persistent diversity issue? Your thinking is quite warped and your figures arbitrary. It's more than working your ass off.
You sound so stupid. I guess most hispanics are coding? Not!! Hell there is racial demographic where most are coding and the rest you said is just straight up racist. The people who thumb upped you are idiots.
Why don't you cry some more?
Snap's crap.
boooorrrringgggg
Embarrassing answer on diversity
You mean embarrassing question
horrible response on diversity.
this kid dont know how to talk
Keep telling lie like this keep it up evan :P
