The negative comments by some people here make no sense to me. This playing is just as beautiful as Goode or Brendel...he plays with a world-class level interpretation and sound quality. I don't understand the criticisms.

Well, as much as I admire Daniil, this masterpiece still needs some work on sound and conception. But all credit to him. His outstanding musicality, as always, is noticeable. Where are the other movements? I would love to hear them, too.
Uchida and Brendel are the standard bearers for this piece. Not to say Mr. Trifonov isn't capable but rather this may not suit him as well as other piano compositions.
as much as I adore Trifonov's playing and consider him the best pianist of his generation, I find his Schubert playing taxing, and not only here, but also in his trio playing with von Mutter in Notturno. Perhaps it has something to do with his 'attack', the special russian technique that can produce very powerful sound which just doesn't fit Schubert's warm personality and creates instead a very sharp contrast that just becomes a torture on listeners' nerves and ears, this of course has something to do with personal tastes, and perhaps by giving Schubert such pressing high spirit he is revolutionizing schubert playing and gives his music a new meaning that would place Schubert closer to Beethoven

Richter was the best at the Schubert 960
I'm also fond of Brendel.
Michiko Uchida is quite moving in the D 960.
Kovachevich I think most sublime interpretation
Hmmm... Trifonov being one of my favorite young pianists, I would expect more from him in this sonata...

I love hearing other people play this, since I am 13 and am playing it this year
Without any significance, more serious things not for Trifonov.
I guess 'serious' is not the word here, perhaps early Viennese Romantics and Classics would be fitting
He does play it too plain tho
Rather dull & lifeless reading of that extraordinary piece. How does he manage to lose the sense and power of that splendid theme?
Workaday stuff.
