Hi everyone! I'm back with the full version of 「 katharsis 」, the OP of Tokyo Ghoul:re season 2.
I couldn't resist and mixed a bit of 「 unravel 」in there as well! In case you don't know, it's the legendary OP from TG season 1.
The first three chords together form the motif (fancy word for theme), which repeats throughout the song. I tried to keep the motif intact when arranging this, so you can still hear it together with the melody.
Everything starting from the "unravel" section in the middle is almost pure improvisation... I feel like playing freely brings out the emotional impact better.
The Synthesia display is added after I filmed the footage so there may be subtle differences.

To me, Attack and Titan and Tokyo Ghoul will always be my top two anime/manga of all time.
Attack on Titan got me into anime, and Tokyo Ghoul got me into manga. I sat with my cousin and binged Attack on Titan season 1 on Netflix. Then I though, oh shit this is a pretty cool medium! So I started watching anime.
Iwatched Tokyo Ghoul a little after I became hooked on anime, then I read that passed season 1, it went to shit and the manga was better. I ignored it at the time and watched it anyways and didn't look back on it until I heard the end of the RE manga was announced. I was at a low when this happened, so I decided to read the manga till the end.
It opened my eyes, and I genuinely learned and realized things as I read it, to the point where I would ponder it after every reading session and legit sob.
After I finished the manga I began eagerly listening to the soundtrack and eventually UA-cam recommended me Attack on Titan music. At this point I hadn't watched Season Two and they just recently announced Season 3, so I decided to pick up the manga and read it before it came out, then I would watch the anime just to see how well they adapted it.
When I caught up (and I still am caught up) I was in utter shock at how good it was. By far the second best manga I've ever read (maybe even one of the best stories I've experienced).
Have to say though, even though Attack on Titan has by far a more intricate and better story, Tokyo Ghoul will remain as my #1 favorite series (of anything) of all time, just because of when it was introduced to me, how it influenced me, and how much it still does.
I've never sobbed so heard reading a manga before (I sob when I watch anime all the time though, specifically Angel Beats), I legit felt a piece of my heart leave me when I saw I was on the last chapter.
