My Dad made already some steps into Your direction - in the late sixties of our last century he built a wooden stand for an old rock solid Black & Decker Planer (which is still in use today... so far about decline of quality) and jointed a wooden rail to it, to get a rectangular guide. And we made dozens of panel strips for radiator cladding with it, beside other rough or fancy stuff. So these are wonderful upgrades which reminds me of him who died far too early at the age of 45 years. I know, he would have loved all this stuff you are presenting here, as much as I do appreciate all of it. So consider this watched from another pair of eyes ...

@@DrewJacobson61Thanks for that, mine too. "Dad's & Son's" could have founded a good company! When you're in your "troubles" between 13 and 20, you often don't realize what could be there - as described in "In The Living Years" by "Mike + The Mechanics".

I like how these guys take a planer to the next level without the need to buy a big one. Interestingly enough, it looks somewhat safer as you are taking the tool to the material

I was given windsurfing lessons by someone who at that time was the 5th best windsurfer in the world. The good man was convinced that I had the same abilities as him. Of course I couldn't do almost anything he asked of me. Yasuhiro, you are too elegant and skilled for me to follow your instructions.

Fantastically designed jig and equally good video showing build. Mimicery is the ultimate form of flattery and so it was so good I went out and built it. As the result, I've got a couple of things to add. The Makita planer model is not the KP180DZ, which is electric not battery. It's instead the DKP180Z 18V LXT. Also, the Makita aluminium base is 9.25mm thick. I note that at the 1 min 08 sec video mark the two bases, old and new, are shown side by side. You can see that the new base is ever so slightly thicker. This is because the aluminium bars only come in 75mm x 10mm, not 9mm. Therefore, a 10mm base is used for the extended bases. Keep up the great work Yasuhiro!!

Hi, I really like your solution to replacing the original back plate. But I just can't find 9mm thick aluminium or steel plate. Only 10, 8 or lower. It could work if I use a 6 and a 3 mm plate together? Maywe welding from the side a little bit?

Awesome jigs! I don’t have the creative thought cage to come up with ideas like this, nor do I have the patience to make these jigs and, I’m lazy. The thought of using the planer as a surfacing tool for slabs, cutting boards, etc is brilliant if you don’t have a router and surfacing bit and you don’t mind taking the additional time it would take using this method.
