An (Almost) Silent Film - A Short Day Hike in the Pyrenees in the Rain + Poncho Problems

- Hello and welcome to my channel.
What was meant to be a three day hiking trip, crisscrossing the Spanish and French Pyrenees border and staying in refuges, unfortunately could not go ahead due to a weather front in the region, which brought almost 5 days of solid rain, thunder, lightning and strong winds, with temperatures reaching as low as 4c (it was 30c the days before we arrived)
On the penultimate day before we left the charming mountain town of Les, we tried one final time to go on a short hike to a place called Port de la Bonaigua, around 2000 metres above sea level and although it was raining, it wasn't so heavy and I managed to at least capture some drone footage.
The area was full of atmosphere with the low clouds rolling in, as well as Vultures, wild horses and other wildlife. Although not the trip we planned, Isabel and myself were both glad we made the effort to at least get one hike in, in what is an absolutely magnificent part of the world. We managed to make the most of what was atrocious weather and even managed to have a few giggles at my attempts at putting the poncho on.
Enjoy.

Another lovely video,thank you!😘
Thank YOU for watching! Glad you enjoyed it. 🙂
I put the back oack on over the poncho on windy days .
That bum shot was a biy of comedy. I really liked all the angles as you climbed
Even up in the mist it is beautiful countryside! Great stuff for sure! Bruce and Otis
Howdy. Thanks a lot for watching, I really do appreciate it. 🙂
Thanks! That bit of comedy was a lot longer than the edited version, took me ages! Hope to be back up that way soon, before the snow arrives. Cheers for watching 🙂
Great atmosphere Martin. Nice video. Take care and atb 😊
Hi! Thanks for watching and commenting, appreciate it. Atb 🙂
Hi, we love the idea of a silent video. It really captures the moment well. You have some really great drone shots going on. Thank you for this beautiful video. Have the best weekend
Hi! Wow, thank you very much. I think silent videos is going to be the way I film most of my future videos. I like the idea of the footage saying much more than I ever could and leave the narration to the viewers imagination. Thanks for watching, I really appreciate it. 🙂
Breathtaking no other words I can think of. You make every shot look like a postcard here. Just stunning
Hi! Thanks very much. Was challenging conditions to film at times so a lot of patience was required. Thanks the comments and watching, appreciate it 🙂
Very atmospheric Martin, those drone shots were great, especially over the horses. Looked like a few places for a discreet wild camp up there, on a clear day I bet the sunset/sunrise would be a sight to behold! ATB Mate 👍
Cheers Ben. Yeah the drone footage came out ok but with the weather it was coming and going so had to pick my moments. I forgot I had a nd32 filter on there and should have swapped that over but trial and error while I still get used to flying it. Hopefully back in a couple of weeks and get some better weather and some wild camping. Thanks for watching, appreciate it. Happy camping! 🙂
Hi Martin, it looks like a fantastic spot, your drone footage and choice of music worked together nicely. It's great to get a glimpse of the Pyrenees. Just as well Isabel was around to sort out your wardrobe malfunctions 😂. Really enjoyed watching your video. All the best 👍
Hi Andrew. Thanks for watching and for the comments. Yeah the poncho was really funny, gave us a few giggles on an otherwise grey day. Thanks again 🙂
Hi there great video. I’m thinking about doing some hike like this on my vlog channel any tips
I say just shoot as much as you can, play around with different angles and try some filters to get some motion blur. Also sometimes shoot in 60 or 120 FPS to help slow footage down for a more cinematic feel. Good luck!
