All of his music presented for awards are in English with no Korean language so why was he designated k-pop? They don’t want him mainstream because he is best. Not cool for BBMAs.
If we insist that they keep him out of KPop categories he won’t win anything and I don’t think that’s fair. If KPop is all they will give him at this time, I’d rather it be that than nothing because the fans don’t want him included in KPop. (Although he is still a KPop idol. He just chose to sing in English).

I have been mad. I want explanations as how is Standing Next To You kpop. Not the sound, nor the arrangement, nor the composers/producers. It just happens that the guy singing it is Korean (and he's incredibly good at singing it and performing it). They simply continue to not recognize that he is a superb POP artist, and that song is the pop song in a loooooong time.
The same goes for Who by Jimin. Or like Crazy by Jimin. With less promotion. Each member of BTS deserved recognition for each unique album/songs. For, rock, r&b, latin, jazz, creativity, mv, dance, rap, collaboration. Look how the stations treated Jimin with Like Crazy. They literally attacked him. Just like the Grammy's (Scammy's). BTS as creative musicians deserve a special award for their versatile genre etc. Meaningful lyrics etc. I never understood how Harry Styles won best dance performance while BTS had ON and Black Swan. Sorry, I still don't understand how a Taylor Swift wins so often. She can sing but, to me it is always the same. Then Beyonce as best country... Unbelievable.. There are way better ones. I guess it is who you know and what you pay. Anyway if Jk and Jimin are both nominated you know JK will win. I know that Jimin doesn't mind because, he's happy for JK because, that's his brother. Honestly even if it's for the publicity or clout or whatever unknown reasons or agenda out there, we all are so aware of such occurences... Award shows and everything... How many of them are really out there wanting to actually acknowledge and address what BTS (or any other artist) deserves (well they have already been deserving since time immemorial) The whole Kpop category was already something that shouldn't have been created. Also that if there is a Kpop category then they should also include these Artists in the whole categories without any sorting since BTS is a worldwide known artist group... Even now they are placing an entire English song and album into these kpop categories especially even when their genres have always been so out of the box.. This whole generalizing sort of thing for Kpop... I don't even have any expectations from such shows no more... It's weird that though we are thankful for giving them the award for whatever category, everything seems just so backhanded to me...
I think it could be a way for Billboard to pretend to give Kpop the same recognition they give "western" pop. They can say, "Hey look, we're inclusive of all music. We handed awards to three different Kpop artists/groups this year!" And they hope that fans will forget they created these separate and definitely not equal Kpop categories and be satisfied.
Yeah. It kind of feels like a hollowed victory. Hopefully, the process will change next year when more categories are opened for K-pop artists to be nominated in.

The multiple albums thing is it. Their last 2 albums they've released no less than 17 versions both times. When sales become more about collecting photo cards and inclusions than buying for the music this happens and this is how some groups are playing the game with sales. Their sales numbers look great. BTS on the other hand never releases more than like 4 versions of any album. By comparison that's wild to me.

The Songs of his Album are all in English not one Korean Song so his Album is a Pop Album and should be in the Category of the best International Pop Album and also his Solo Song is in Englisch so it should be in the Category fir the best International Pop Song and Jungkook should be nominated for the best Male Artist. Yesterday, I watched a video titled: "top songs of 2024'. I was overjoyed when Jimin was included in this list. Btw, Jimin is my bias. It wasn't until later in the day that I realized Jungkook was not listed at all. That was surprising to me.
Well….i’m also in agreement that there shouldn’t be a K-pop category period. JK /Jimin / and all our guys should be considered mainstream, even in the rap categories imo. Why were Stray Kids nominated for best group ( not in the K-pop category, in the regular one) ? ALL , and I mean ALL these awards show have shown to be disgraceful. I’m so done with them. I mean, c’mon , Beyoncé wins best country female artist??? When the F did she turn country? Just because she did a country album, she is now considered the best country female artist ??? Straykids got the chance this year because BTS is on hiatus. Maybe Billboard wanted a group to win and not a soloist for global kpop artist, just guessing, since until now it has always been a band that won the category. But wait until Bts’s comeback! I am positive that they will win again when they release new album after military.

I agree with you completely...about everything! I never watch awards unless our Bangtan are involved. I give no weight to them. The results are always so crazy and get me angry. Still, once again, this makes NO SENSE! Don't even get me started about the fan polls! No fan base, and I mean NO fan base, is bigger or better than our ARMY! Yet we got stomped even with us voting in full force (in the category that bears our name)??? Atiny had virtually ALL the votes that were not BTS ARMY and the others were mostly under 1 percent. Hmm? Does that hint towards something dirty?
This isn’t directly about what Jose said because this isn’t what he addressed, but my concern about ARMY making a big deal about them not winning nonKPop themed awards or being nominated for KPop awards is that we may make it where they are only nominated for nonKPop categories which will affect JK the most, because he is the one who sings mostly in English. Let’s face it, they ARE NOT going to win those the nonKPop awards any time soon. Let’s be careful to not take awards away from them. I’ve even heard ARMIES say JK shouldn’t win MAMA or MMA awards with English songs and that was their reasoning for encouraging others to not vote for him in categories where other members were nominated. They used that as the reason to vote for other members. I have no problem for voting for any of the members, but let’s be careful about cutting JK out of getting awards just because of the language he chooses to sing in. I am happy at least one of them won for whatever category they is in. He is still a KPop idol and he mentioned on Suchwita that he was proud of that and kept that in mind when recording in the States. Hope my rambling makes a bit of sense.
That's not even the argument we are making...music shouldn't be divided based on where you are from or what language you sing in... it's not follow music, it's literally the same western music, some sing it in English and some in Korean...we are speaking about all BTS members here...now tell me how Winter Ahead which is a jazz song in English is now a k-pop song...and how Bing Crosby song became suddenly k-pop as well just because V joined in and sang in English lol....do you understand now? How can RM last album even be considered k-pop when it actually broke all boundaries of what makes k-pop music....BTS members are listened to more around the world than in Korea as well so it just doesn't make sense....the whole k categories in the west were literally made to restrict BTS and never let them cross over or compete with other musicians because they were starting to dominate a lot even over top western artists....we aren't taking just about JK, this was something we fought against even before their solo projects started....them being proud of their Korean identity and roots have nothing to do with this...they also talked about how music is just music....

ok can the award shows stop put any bts members in the K-pop category, they’re a lot more then just K-pop. Their music really expanded in other different genres and style that really shows their artistic creativity, yeah I’m glad that jimin and jungkook won, but I still find it very unfair for BB making the award show as a attendance award when our boys are still in the military. VMA did the same thing and bts won in other category, however they give BTS’s award to those color to color girl group (yk who) only bc BTS weren’t able to attend the VMA awards.

Thank you Jose for taking this stand. Like you and Army I was indeed shocked. I had delusionary thought JK would win some of the mainstream categories and Jimin would win the KPop category. This conjecture was purely based on the music. Sad, as Billboard is now moving closer to being the Grammys . Baffling that award shows are becoming so blatantly biased in their choices now. Why were the main stream categories not even choices? Feel like the honour became a bit shaded. Though I love Stray Kids who won the overall award and am a Stay as well as an Army, it was a good point Jose in how did JK not win after receiving the two top KPop awards. Attendance should surely not be the criterion. Conflicted happy and sad simulatenously!
So...BBMAs said JK was the top kpop artist of the year on social media. And then.... he wasn't awarded top kpop artists of the year..... What an insult to him and the other group who was handed a participation trophy. (I don't know who won yet, btw).
Each awards show has their own set of criteria, some of it very mysterious. Billboard awards are mostly based on sales, which is pretty easy to calculate, and involves very little shenanigans. However, some awards include voting by a board of some kind. And, much like Academy Award voting, sometimes voters like to spread the wealth around, like not giving best movie to a foreign film that will win the foreign film category. So it may be that they gave JungKook several awards, but then spread the wealth around. Awards in general don't mean a lot to fans. Yes, they like to be proud, but the awards don't change the quality of the work, mostly its just about marketing. So don't fret. Any artist is happy with being put in the limelight, at all with regards to awards, but it doesn't change what they do usually.

Honestly even if it's for the publicity or clout or whatever unknown reasons or agenda out there, we all are so aware of such occurences... Award shows and everything... How many of them are really out there wanting to actually acknowledge and address what BTS (or any other artist) deserves (well they have already been deserving since time immemorial) The whole Kpop category was already something that shouldn't have been created. Also that if there is a Kpop category then they should also include these Artists in the whole categories without any sorting since BTS is a worldwide known artist group... Even now they are placing an entire English song and album into these kpop categories especially even when their genres have always been so out of the box.. This whole generalizing sort of thing for Kpop... I don't even have any expectations from such shows no more... It's weird that though we are thankful for giving them the award for whatever category, everything seems just so backhanded to me...
I think it could be a way for Billboard to pretend to give Kpop the same recognition they give "western" pop. They can say, "Hey look, we're inclusive of all music. We handed awards to three different Kpop artists/groups this year!" And they hope that fans will forget they created these separate and definitely not equal Kpop categories and be satisfied.
I wouldn’t have as much of a problem with it if they renamed the others to “Western” awards or something.
Yeah. It kind of feels like a hollowed victory. Hopefully, the process will change next year when more categories are opened for K-pop artists to be nominated in.
And this is exactly why it's a huge joke that Grammy's were trying to do a Korean version. Like, "Hey guys, we appreciate Korean artists. Just not enough to accept them winning over mainstream westerners."

The multiple albums thing is it. Their last 2 albums they've released no less than 17 versions both times. When sales become more about collecting photo cards and inclusions than buying for the music this happens and this is how some groups are playing the game with sales. Their sales numbers look great. BTS on the other hand never releases more than like 4 versions of any album. By comparison that's wild to me.

I agree with you completely...about everything! I never watch awards unless our Bangtan are involved. I give no weight to them. The results are always so crazy and get me angry. Still, once again, this makes NO SENSE! Don't even get me started about the fan polls! No fan base, and I mean NO fan base, is bigger or better than our ARMY! Yet we got stomped even with us voting in full force (in the category that bears our name)??? Atiny had virtually ALL the votes that were not BTS ARMY and the others were mostly under 1 percent. Hmm? Does that hint towards something dirty?

This isn’t directly about what Jose said because this isn’t what he addressed, but my concern about ARMY making a big deal about them not winning nonKPop themed awards or being nominated for KPop awards is that we may make it where they are only nominated for nonKPop categories which will affect JK the most, because he is the one who sings mostly in English. Let’s face it, they ARE NOT going to win those the nonKPop awards any time soon. Let’s be careful to not take awards away from them. I’ve even heard ARMIES say JK shouldn’t win MAMA or MMA awards with English songs and that was their reasoning for encouraging others to not vote for him in categories where other members were nominated. They used that as the reason to vote for other members. I have no problem for voting for any of the members, but let’s be careful about cutting JK out of getting awards just because of the language he chooses to sing in. I am happy at least one of them won for whatever category they is in. He is still a KPop idol and he mentioned on Suchwita that he was proud of that and kept that in mind when recording in the States. Hope my rambling makes a bit of sense.
That's not even the argument we are making...music shouldn't be divided based on where you are from or what language you sing in... it's not follow music, it's literally the same western music, some sing it in English and some in Korean...we are speaking about all BTS members here...now tell me how Winter Ahead which is a jazz song in English is now a k-pop song...and how Bing Crosby song became suddenly k-pop as well just because V joined in and sang in English lol....do you understand now? How can RM last album even be considered k-pop when it actually broke all boundaries of what makes k-pop music....BTS members are listened to more around the world than in Korea as well so it just doesn't make sense....the whole k categories in the west were literally made to restrict BTS and never let them cross over or compete with other musicians because they were starting to dominate a lot even over top western artists....we aren't taking just about JK, this was something we fought against even before their solo projects started....them being proud of their Korean identity and roots have nothing to do with this...they also talked about how music is just music....

ok can the award shows stop put any bts members in the K-pop category, they’re a lot more then just K-pop. Their music really expanded in other different genres and style that really shows their artistic creativity, yeah I’m glad that jimin and jungkook won, but I still find it very unfair for BB making the award show as a attendance award when our boys are still in the military. VMA did the same thing and bts won in other category, however they give BTS’s award to those color to color girl group (yk who) only bc BTS weren’t able to attend the VMA awards.

Thank you Jose for taking this stand. Like you and Army I was indeed shocked. I had delusionary thought JK would win some of the mainstream categories and Jimin would win the KPop category. This conjecture was purely based on the music. Sad, as Billboard is now moving closer to being the Grammys . Baffling that award shows are becoming so blatantly biased in their choices now. Why were the main stream categories not even choices? Feel like the honour became a bit shaded. Though I love Stray Kids who won the overall award and am a Stay as well as an Army, it was a good point Jose in how did JK not win after receiving the two top KPop awards. Attendance should surely not be the criterion. Conflicted happy and sad simulatenously!

Each awards show has their own set of criteria, some of it very mysterious. Billboard awards are mostly based on sales, which is pretty easy to calculate, and involves very little shenanigans. However, some awards include voting by a board of some kind. And, much like Academy Award voting, sometimes voters like to spread the wealth around, like not giving best movie to a foreign film that will win the foreign film category. So it may be that they gave JungKook several awards, but then spread the wealth around. Awards in general don't mean a lot to fans. Yes, they like to be proud, but the awards don't change the quality of the work, mostly its just about marketing. So don't fret. Any artist is happy with being put in the limelight, at all with regards to awards, but it doesn't change what they do usually.
