I have a special place in my heart for Steve Strange, growing up on a farm in the middle of no-where in rural America, when I discovered Steve & his music in the early 80's, I felt like I _'found my tribe'_ . Growing up in a family of 7, he was the brother I always wanted and he influenced me more than my real brothers. I still feel that way today. Love love love him

Just watched some of George's interviews, BBC film 'Worried About the Boy' (UTube) & read his autobiography 'Take it like a Man', George describes how he & others left 'dysfunctional families in the suburbs' to join this 'clubbing family, moving from squat to squat'! What a time to be young! AMAZING FOOTAGE- THANKS for posting!

This is from 1980. Boy George wore that costume at Steve Stranges 21st birthday(held on the Circle line on the tube) and a few weeks later at his own 19th birthday. He's obviously dressed as Brittania with the helmet and union jack shield, although when asked by someone he mistakenly said he was dressed as Boudicca. It's great to see so many familiar faces.

God, the mid 70's through the mid 80's were such wild times! Punk/ new wave/ no wave and all the other alternative genres that came about, that consumer video and high quality audio equipment was showing up and allowing people to break the mass media's hold on culture, and so much came out of it! I miss all the craziness and actual freedom of those times, sadly too many aren't so inclined to fun and bravery anymore..

Excellent piece of film and great music to go with it! I love to see those Blitz Kids of the early 80's. I'm so envious, I would have loved to have been a part of it, but I was only 13 at the time! It brought a lump to my throat seeing Steve Strange. Can't believe he's gone. He'll be forever in my heart. R.I.P. Steve, my beautiful angel.xxxx

Was this going on in NY in 1980? Or were the NY club kids more like mid 80s.? I remember being 16 going to Limelight and the Bank, World, and this club that moved called purgatory but that was mid-later 80s and it became mostly more Goth. I wish I was just 5 yrs older and in the UK. What amazing times!!! Coolest creative people. Blitz looked so cool. But I would’ve rather been at the rum runner to hang with the Duran boys 😉 I wonder if there’s a video of the scene there at that time....

He used to be very funny quirky and sharp and flirtatious. I'm not commenting about how he became except to say that when Taboo came out, in the venue that was The Blitz Club, now a theatre,. Steve Strange who was in the audience trying to be low key, was made to stand up and have comments made about him and he bitched me up too in front of my young daughter. He came into the audience, we were about 4th row. I was looking at his stage make-up and how he'd done it. He recognised me, said "Have a good look love, you've paid your £40.00. Anyone he knew in the audience got bitched up.. how people can change when they turn from pretty boys in fat spiteful old queens

Today is London is like Pakistan; there will never be another creative artistic British music scene because Britian is no longer britain; and a muslim mayor is proof of that. That is what you get with open borders people. Now its just about muslims and women wearing hijabs in London; it makes me want to cry.

AA That's what so many have told me about London, years ago like 2006 a paper ran a story about there being no more "London Boys" and it sad cuz no matter what scene or music was the taste of the day, England did it best because they meant it, it (the music/message) was life to them. Pakistan. So sad. To hear never again a musical outbreak from England's youth is never to be again is just beyond winds.

The Blitz was no big deal Susie, it was a place for people to posture and be seen. I'd never have gone there as a venue of choice, but was wearing Vivienne Westwood's clothes as a job and had to be seen in the right places. Full of morons addicted to the mirror. Used to put in an appearance and then go to another club, like The Marquee, The 100 Club, The Funny Farm in Camden. Actually The Blitz was inhabited by desperately insecure people in the main. It wasn't underground, it was all shop window

Very evocative, and some brave people there, walking around London dressed like that would most probably of got you a real kicking from the then narrow minded troglodytes, hence travelling in a group would of protected you to some extent. There's a definite need for a credible feature film centred around this period in club culture. Hmm?
If Boy George was indeed 17 yrs old at the time this footage was shot, it then dates this film from 1978? 79?

The title of this video describes this as “70’s.” Would you consider this wave of style and music to be 1970’s or 1980’s? I’ve always considered this scene to be early 80’s imho.

By the time punk got recognised it was already over, 1975/76...nobody had Mohican hair cuts. It was much too flashy and contrived. When mainstream cottoned on to it, it had finished.. it was more about attitude than anything else. Everyone was in a band..

That's interesting how the one at the end said he didn't work but still went out often. We couldn't afford that now, and people are made to feel as if they have to do some mind numbing low paid job to help a few tax dodging corporate political donors get rich and whole TV shows are made to put them down.

So it's fair that tax payers should fund people who are out of work to go out? Fuck off.

J Jones Interesting isn't it how its all turned round and they've got the poor bowing and scraping again. The one at the end either lived at home and got sup ben (enough to pay for a few nights out) or maybe squatted in a place that would now rent for thousands a week. It's one of the reasons it was such an interesting era - money didn't matter too much.
