- In this video I’m going to compare these two watches: the Omega Aqua Terra with caliber 8500 and the Omega Aqua Terra with caliber 8900. I just wanted to make a quick side by side comparison between these two because when I was trying to decide which one to get, it was very hard to decide without seeing every detail and difference between them.
I just bought the 8500 yesterday and she is so beautiful. I did a few months of research and i think the vertical line on the dial and with the date positioned at 3 o’clock gives a better finishing the watch. But still the 8900 is also a beauty.

That is true, but maybe you're like me and like the date that doesn't stand out that much... Is a personal preference 😁

I originally wanted the 8500, but the dealer in my smaller city only had 8900. I watched this video and actually decided the 8900 was the one i preferred. I love the slightly more matte finish on the 8900 dial, as well as the varying size of the horizontal lines. Been wearing the 8900 with a steel band as my every day watch for about a month now. The horizontal lines stand out much more than the verts and add more to the luxurious appeal
I'd go with older one, but the original dials had some balance and symmetricality that both of these lack, it's a deal breaker to me although I love the vertical lined dials.

I'm still on the fence on which one I like better. I have the 8500 Davis Love Ryder Cup AT, with the vertical teak. I love it, but I keep finding myself drawn to the newer one with the horizontal teak. It's a frustrating dilemna.
@@johnulmerRacing One year later since my original comment, I still prefer my 8500 Aqua Terra. I just can't stand the horizontal teak for some reason. It's either vertical teak or no teak at all for me.
@@imranbecks Man, I have come full circle on this. I still have my 8500 AT, and wear it more now than I did a year ago. I don't know if it's the vertical teak that attracts me to it, or the blue hands with the gold.second hand.

Beautiful watches - but actually feel the 2500 first generation 39.2mm beats them both in classic looks.
Nice one, pretty useful. One important thing is missing: the comparison between the two movements, which are quite different.

Great video! I have an opportunity to get a new blue 8500 Skyfall or a new blue 8800. The 8500 is $1,000 more, is it worth it? I like them both, what would you do?
Thank you! 😁 Honestly, they are both great watches, it all comes down to personal preference. For me, I got 8500 and never regreted it, I think it has a bit more of the x factor, the 8900 doesn't pop that much on the wrist to be honest... But hey, it depends what you are going for! 😁

8500 dial looks much better the deeper blue colour is better, also has a lacquered finish, & less prominent teak lines gives far better legibility. Date wheel has better contrast with a black background and white coloured dates. The text is also pure white on the dial & around the chapter ring, again better to read than the 8900 which has a faded grey colour for the text and funky blue text which makes it look childish. The 8500 has a better lug length to dial ratio, also the bezel is thinner. The 8900 looks stumpy and chubby. The bracelet is also better on the 8500, each link is much more curved in shape giving it more dimension, the 8900 bracelet the links are almost flat & 2D. The bracelet thickness is too fat on the 8900 as well making the watch feel fatter. The crown design and gaurd also looks better on the 8500 as it tucks away nicely, the 8900 crown sticks out like a sore thumb.
The only thing the 8900 is better at is the movement and placement of the date wheel.

No, it's a little bit darker on the new one.
The 8500 looks more sporty, the 8900 is more dressy.

No question, the newer one is better. New movement, better ergonomics and increased finishing quality. Can't go wrong.
I have the 8500 and I much prefer the crown guard. But 8900 is more advanced.
What do you mean by more advanced? Movements are basically the same, like the material used.
@@anotherwatchguy the anti-magnetic property of it. I also have the 8800, and I cannot express enough how much more freedom I am enjoying when I don't need to worry about magnetic field anymore.
@@askay2k The 8500 is also antimagnetic to the same extent. The only difference between them is METAS certification.
