Fixing And/Or Replacing The Carbon Fiber Trim on SRTs

- If you own a SRT you already know what this video is about, the d@mn carbon fiber trim. This trim peels away from the dash on ever car and isn't covered under warranty. Check out this video to learn how to repair and/or replace the trim in your vehicle before this turns into a $200 expense.
According to a subscriber complaints like this can be handled by contacting SRT (701-858-7873) directly rather than going through the dealer. Thank you RedKeyInUse!
For reference I purchased my part from MoparPart.com.

Thanks for the video. I was very disappointed when I noticed my trim piece peeling away from the dash on an almost $80k vehicle. Now I can confidently replace it.
Great job on this video, very detailed information and great videography 👍🏽
I had the dealership replace 3 carbon fiber panels free of charge on my 2017 Jeep SRT. FCA extended the warranty on the carbon fiber, check with the dealership before you spend any of your own money
About time there’s a good video On this issue thank you
Ive tried several different glues. Nothing lasts in Texas heat. I finally had to use JB weld. Yes, not east to work with but it was the only thing that worked.
very well explained, thanks
Thank you for this video. It was very helpful. My Overland trim peeled away and I tried to glue it and made a mess. ’m now going to replace it myself since the part for the Overland is $643 right now 😱
I do have another video explaining how this can be done under warranty for free. Check that out too.
@@StraightSRT8 thank you, I’ve called the dealer and am waiting to hear back. Curious if you know miles or years that this is covered under? My Jeep is almost 8 years and 105,000 miles so I’m not very hopeful.
@@cambriawright7467 if I had to guess I would say 10yr/100k but that's just a guess. Let me know what happens, I'm curious.
@@StraightSRT8 OK, lots of phone calls and research done and from what I could find the TSB is only for the SRT, does not include the Overland trim. Here is the service bulletin:
static.nhtsa.gov/odi/tsbs/2019/MC-10166578-9999.pdf
The dealership said my Overland did have a similar bulletin for the leather on the dash, but not what I was looking for. Here is that:
static.nhtsa.gov/odi/tsbs/2019/MC-10170403-9999.pdf
It's unfortunate that the part is so expensive right now. This is the cheapest I could find: www.getoemparts.com/oem-parts/mopar-instrument-panel-applique-5qx19aaaaa?c=Zz1pbnRlcmlvci10cmltJnM9aW5zdHJ1bWVudC1wYW5lbCZsPTg2Jm49QXNzZW1ibGllcyBQYWdlJmE9amVlcCZvPWdyYW5kLWNoZXJva2VlJnk9MjAxNCZ0PW92ZXJsYW5kJmU9NS03bC12OC1nYXM%3D
But at least with your video I'll be saving money on labor. So thank you for that!
@@cambriawright7467 excellent research, sorry about the bad news though.
Really good info, again. Mines been re-glued and Im not particularly happy with it. Not doubt I'll be replacing one day.
What a dope repair video 😮💨
I’m hurt I even have to watch it though
Wowwww great instruction video! Wowww great job man and being still with the camera!!
Where did you get the part from! Mine is coming off on my 2016 SRT JEEP Grand Cherokee SRT Night
@@watsongreatest mine came from a 2017.
@@StraightSRT8 where did you get the part from???!
It says $370 now😳
Double sided 3 m tape works 👌
Where did you get your part? Your invoice shows a great price, I cannot find one for close to that. Thanks!
Check the description of the video, all details are there
I like what you are saying and doing regarding the carbon fibre trim coming away from the dash. I feel that this like other Grand Cherokee SRT’s should be a free replacement as it is a very common failure. Can you imagine having to replace that trim every few years at your expense.
Dodge know they have a problem, so they have to step up to the plate and take ownership of this problem.
I know that all SRT’s have the carbon fibre trim, but what about the lower spec Grand Cherokee’s that have a wood trim in the same place as the SRT’s carbon fibre.
Are the Summit’s, Overland’s and Limited Grand Cherokee’s having any of these problems?
Other models also suffer from this. I had a 2012 overland summit and the wood trim peeled exactly the same place that hes replacing
It happened on my driver door and it swung out and almost caused an accident while I was driving on the highway.
They have for the left side??
That website does not offer them anymore. What other website should i get it from?😊
Do you perhaps know if I can get spares in Germany somewhere ? I‘m driving a 2014 GC with the wooden brown interior but exactly this cover was replaced by the owner before to a „muddy brown“ plastic part. I was looking for spares but obviously it’s really hard to find spares over here 😅
Can your dealer get the spares for you? Or perhaps Ebay has some? There should be some larger companies that do ship internationally too. I don't know off the top of my head but some MOPAR discount sites may. Unfortunately google may be your best option, sorry.
My question is, why the hell they didn’t think of a built-in or tight clip on carbon fiber trim? What genius went with the idea to use some type of gorilla glue?
It’s now $400 !!! And I need a new one, I tried to glue mine and wrecked it 😩
I have the issue with the trim at the starter button. Is this a similar fix?
Yes sir it is. However I just released a new video about how to get some carbon fiber trim replaced for free. Check it out then give it a shot and let me know if it works for that trim. I never tried to get that exact piece replaced before.
Jeep currently offers a 5 year unlimited millage replacement on the carbon fiber pieces. I have had mine replaced at least once for everyone of the panels and the passenger front door twice. The passenger rear door is delaminating again and this is scheduled to be replaced later this month. The worse part is that the 5 years will be up next month for me and there is no permanent solution. When I do it on my own, I may change them all out to the standard black type to avoid this continued problem. I wont be buying a jeep again because of this in addition to the delaminating dash pad problem and flacking brake caliper paint problem. Good luck to all jeep owners out there.
If you keep it longer, the next thing is the rubber around the volume knob will start fraying at the front and turn gooey and they don't make replacement knobs so the whole panel has to get replaced or buy aluminum cover knobs on Amazon.
You think exactly like me. I live in the middle east and I was planning on buying a Jeep for city driving and little bit of offroad. However, because of these failures I took a step back and I don't think I'll be buying any other Mopar vehicle untill things have really been improved.
We have 3 mopar cars at home.
Just checked the price for that part you linked and its now $274 ☠... I just tried taking it off and gluing it though and the second I get one part sealed back down another section comes unglued
Try and scuff the black backing piece that mounts to the dash. Then use glue and adhere the carbon fiber to it and use clamps to hold it in place for a good day. That should hold it. Make sure you're not using a watery glue. Try and find something gel based and made for plastic.
I just checked now…it’s 394.00 now. My mind is blown
great job ann greets from gemany ;)
btw. new price in nov. 2022 : $426.36...cheap..well
Hello! Awesome to hear that my videos are reaching Germany. Thanks for letting me know. Make sure you check out my other video on carbon fiber trim. If you have a SRT then the dealer may replace it for free.
@@StraightSRT8 Hi Straight, well, i've found only ur Video where the describe ist good. My SRT8 ist from 2014 and "my" Jeep Dealer say's "no" to change all 3 Carbon trim's :( my car is too "old"..
I will try to fix it to myself. looking how to remeove the trim from the driver / passenger Doorpanel
The process should be the same for a 2012? My dash trim looks identical
can't say for sure but should be similar. Once you find out, drop a comment below if you don't mind
@@StraightSRT8 It was! Thanks for the video! The vent for the air conditioner was super difficult and broke 1 of my 4 clips on it but finally gave, wonder if there is a strategy to get it out cleaner.

Hi have a 2015 srt, advice which website to order from I need from the doors and dashboard side. Am based in South Africa
Thanks for reaching out but I'm not sure how helpful I can be. The website I chose had shipping to the US, I didn't check for international shipping. In this case I recommend that you try to find a reputable site with international shipping. You may be able to find parts on ebay too. Best of luck to you
@@StraightSRT8 please forward website I’ll try them to see if they not shipping to Africa
@@bonganihlatshwayo399 everything you need to know is in the description located below the video. Including part numbers.
Hello I have the same issue on my 2016 . What website did you get this from ?
Check the video description.
Found it thanks little difficult to find on the mobile app 😂
I just bought my SRT used a month ago and it started peeling off after 3 weeks. And now the part is $460. I tried double sided taping it down and that didn’t work at all. It doesn’t like to stick to the carbon fiber.
Double sided tape will not cut it. You can try a gel based glue instead but I didn't have much luck with that either.
@@StraightSRT8 I will try that. The thing is mine is a 2017 with 43,000 miles and I tried bringing it to the dealership for warranty within the month and they were like we can’t cover that.
You're definitely under mileage but may be over on the year, my 2017 is no longer under that coverage either. You can also try another dealer, they tend to differ and I don't know why.
Hey, my friend, thank you for the video I have a Jeep Cherokee Sr t and it's happening to me as well Can you please tell me where you bought it So I can buy the same part. Please
Hey, thanks for the comment, everything you need is in the video description.
@@StraightSRT8 Thank you for responding but the video description doesn't tell me where you ordered the part so I can order it from there as well.
I just looked at the description, it says I purchased the part from Moparpart.com and I provided the cost and part number
@@StraightSRT8 Hey, sorry, thank you very much. I appreciate it man.
Need to replace mine went to same website you got it from and price $400 bucks now anyone know a cheaper website?
Unfortunately I don't, they were the cheapest for me
How did you get that part for $178!?
That's what it was on the website. No discount codes needed.
The number that isposted in the description is not "SRT" it is a company SRT but they have nothing to do with Jeep Dodge or Chrysler. I just left my dealer them saying it is no longer covered but for just $4000 they can fix it!!
Hmm that's interesting, I've used that number before to discuss with SRT (the number provided) about my Jeep. However I ran into this problem myself with my last dealership, they wouldn't honor the repair then I went to another dealership and they did. I don't understand how or why but it's incredibly frustrating. Another user did post the exact recall and links to this in the comments, maybe that can help you?
Update: Great video and thank you!🙏🏻💪🏼 but the price for this item right now is for $800😭
Edit (for people looking for the price): now it’s about $470
$800?! Wow!
I need a wood grain trim but they want more then 200 dollars
Most people have it replaced at no charge by dodge. So I’m not sure why you say they refuse to acknowledge it.
My dealer and many others have refused to replace it. I had mine looked at about 6 months ago and the answer was no.
@@StraightSRT8 go direct to srt with a complaint.
@@redkeyinuse4754 I added that advice to the description in the video, thank you

FYI anyone thinking about the gorilla glue route ... SIKE.. won't work. Mine lasted all of 3 weeks. You got to think how hot it actually gets in your car when your not in it, windows up and the sun hovering under your sunroof. Besides that when it would active the glue back to a liquid the smell 🤢oh and btw those fumes can be toxic carcinogens just like the good smells you douce your car in . That new car smell is in a cancer fragrance south of frace I believe but yes it's a combo of fresh glue in the air amongst other fresh chemicals. Another reason to not buy brand new . I'm in the process right now of taking that under layer that's underneath the carbon fiber and I am reupholstering it and I'm going to redo my entire interior now It's cheap it's easy It won't look cheap it'll look good I have real alcantara and other leather fabrics that I'm going to go black and red It's going to look dope looks way better than the carbon and it won't peel. I suggest doing something like that that way you know you're not going to have to do this again
Be sure to send us a link of photos of the finished product. I'd like to see it. Thanks for the comment.
@@StraightSRT8 for sure. Just finished taking the trim out 5 min ago . Workn it now🫡
There are aftermarket overlays for this. No sense spending that kind of money.
That's certainly one option and a good point for a quicker cheaper fix.
