Also on Steve (dislikes, here I come). His tools will break over time. But more than a balancing system is just a little annoyance. If you kick your opponent off stage you can use that time to mine a bit more, or just manage your resources better. (I'm a Link main, pls don't hate me from mentioning Steve)
In the original Kirby games, almost every boss fight against Meta Knight ends with his mask being sliced off upon defeat and causing him to flee of the screen. Imagine if that was a mechanic implemented in brawl that would’ve had unique effects on characters like Meta Knight making it so he wasn’t overpowered at all. If the damage kept increasing so much so it’d break off I’d imagine he’d either take nearly an instant K. O. or be left in an extremely vulnerable state before recovering Ala K. Rool’s belly armor. However this was ultimately too complicated to implement and without extra time for play-testers to adjust their character balancing feedback the developers ultimately overlooked this issue, now we’re left with one of the most infamously broken fighters in video game history.
I'd like to see battle damage like how it is in the dbz Budokai Tenkaichi series, where characters look visibly damaged after they get hit by certain high damage attacks.
I also really appreciated that feature in the DBZ games as well! Same with the Soul Calibur games, where their armour would break or their clothing would appear more damaged.
Olimar's helmet also cracks when you get your final, zoomed-in hit in on him. It would've been cool to see more of these, like Meta Knight losing his mask, or weapons/shields cracking
Olimars helmet gets cracked whenever he gets hit but it repairs instantly Its more so a damage reaction (That should kill him cuz oxygen is toxic to people like olimar and alph)
I don't see why it wouldn't. They'd be entirely different mechanics. Though, one reason this mechanic might have been scrapped is that it might have been harder to visually express damage on characters who don't wear clothes, like the Pokemon or Donkey Kong.
I mean, Captain Falcon already has a canonical design for his full face (first appearing in F-Zero X). They changed his hair color later, but the other distinguishing features (scars and hair style) remain the same.
this also works with K.Rool's Belly Armor, you can see the cracks on the golden(?) belly and they added a whole mechanic where if the Belly armor breaks he gets stunned (it takes about 25 seconds to fully heal from almost broken to 100%)
Sooo instead of doing this to balance the fight they were all like "hey, let's introduce the rage mechanic where the one who lives longer deals more damage"😅
@@RexuhntThe rage mechanic allows for comebacks, while battle damage would make comebacks impossible. All of the lost power from battle damage comes back as soon as you respawn, so it gives a HUGE advantage to the person who is up in stocks, since if you don't have any way to respawn then you're stuck with the damage for the rest of the game.
@@ayyayyron oh I’m not arguing for the battle damage thing to replace the rage mechanic, I just want the rage mechanic gone lol. It's interesting, but it's good that was scrapped because that would be extremely annoying considering how easy it is for certain characters to rack up damage with ease. (Looking at you meta knight)
@@Rkay421 the reason is that people wouldn't show up to the tournaments unless he was allowed once Nintendo found out that was the case the ban was lifted and he was allowed again. So he wasn't really banned at all.
Interestingly basically the reverse mechanic got implemented in Smash 4, being rage, which gives you buffs when you’re at high percent instead of nerfs.
In a way you could also say that weapon damage is sort of a thing for Robin in Smash for and ultimate. Although I guess you wouldn't say it's weapon damage because it's weapon use he keeps using his magic and then the book or the staff that goes with it just falls off of him and can damage opponents
Yeah but Steve’s weapon breaking mechanic was added so it would more accurate to his series. Minecraft has a weapon durability system so all weapons will break from overuse. It is the same thing with Robin’s swords and spell books.
Idk if anyone talked about this but in Brawl there was another mechanic where if you threw a player towards another player they’d also get knocked away
I think that's more so a Fire Emblem reference as opposed to a Smash battle damage mechanic because in FE, weapons and items and spellbooks have limited uses before they break or disappear. The mechanic in the short isn't franchise exclusive, it would be something entirely new, across the roster, and interesting for the Smash series overall and I'm a bit disappointed it didn't make it into the final product.
@@tjwalker8766I think its funny how of all things, a "Limited weapons" mechanic its the only thing repped in Robin properly The man can fly (or float) in his game and in Smash instead he runs in a silly way and forgets how to recover once his book is over

This is very similar to how Pokémon trainer works in Brawl. The long you use a Pokémon, the weaker it gets until you respawn. Thankfully this doesn't happen in Ultimate
Judging based on Brawls poor mechanic changes such as footstooling and tripping this also would’ve been extremely unfair for the characters with said Armor and Weapons except Meta Knight cuz he’s the META Knight
Indeed, as it's something from his own games, it could be entirely separate inspiration as to why they implemented it. Mac wasn't even playable in Brawl.
