- Proof of a Hero may be the most epic "Movie" song I've heard in a video game. It slaps you with enthusiasm and with joy and thrill with this sense of respect and admiration for your foe. Love it. Really allowing myself to dive into Monster Hunter music has been such a gift. Lots more to come here.

I was shocked hearing this at Tokyo 2020 Olympic Opening. Athletes coming in march feels heroic.
Naanii!? Need to see this
Also Ace Combat song
Yes, I actually watched it and had tears in my eyes and dad looked at me and asked if somethings wrong and I explained that they're using video game music there
Literally dude!! And Dragon quest!! I was supposed to be at the Olympics but couldn't compete due to a fractured wrist, so hearing proof of a hero play there made me cry
@@Reggie21 Daredevil from Ace Combat 7. Also could I interest you in Showdown from Project Wingman
Proof of a Hero has 10 or so incarnations now and they all slap. Even the weakest incarnations of the song are still exhilarating and conjure several emotions. And the very best incarnations are incredibly powerful. each one properly conveying the feel of their respective game while being unified as pure Monster Hunter. The regality of the original, the majesty of the Tri version, the celebratory bombast of the Generations Ultimate version, the large scale or world, the Japanese roots of Rise, and Sunbreaks more gothic tone. All fantastic. I think Proof of a Hero is a perfect piece of music.
Oddly enough my favorite one is the Proof of a Hero that only plays during Phase 3 of Shen Gaoren in MHOnline
Honestly sometimes i thinks it secretly gives a +50 to your attack when it play

Theres a very simple yet powerfull reason why this song its SO powerfull and close to each hunters heart. All the monsters have a theme, a song that captures their escense, who they are. Arey they fierce? are they furious? are they regal? are they a force of nature? each song captures that special something they are. When we fight each monster its "them" againts us, its us geting on their turf, their home, so its expected they get their theme kick in when the fight starts. But here, with prof of a hero its quite literaly "us", its our theme, its our moment when we simply say...enought, its do or die, its time to show why we are called "Monster Hunters!"
And somehow they are sooooo good at making it kick in at just the right moment. Most memorable moment for me was being carted twice, no potions, near death, wall jumping onto a black diablos, SMASHING my switch axe into it’s next and revving like my heart depended on it. Only other time a video game left me shaking was Me vs. Martyr Logarios the first time.
@@Minotaur-ey2lgand the way it cuts through the monsters theme at the very basically shouting "STAY DOWN..I WIN!" As it lays there body broken into pieces so ugh amazing (switch axe master race)
Reading your comment teared me up! I have all those feelings since i played since mh1! Old fart right here but damn. Mh really speaks to us
Ikr, it gave me goosebumps when i hear it
Proof of a Hero is the ideal main theme. The buildup is the excitement, the anticipation we all feel before a hunt. It CRASHES into the chorus with the same weight of a Tigrex claw against our armor, the hunt is on! It settles back down for a calm, contemplative moment; maybe we've carted, or even triple carted, and are forced to rethink our strategy. Surrounded by the tranquility of the village we want to protect, there's no way we can lose again. The pipe plays, the anticipation is back, and the horns and brass come crashing back down, the main theme blaring at full force, and finally at 9:25 the final blow is struck.
The story of Monster Hunter, the REAL story, has always been the story the players make for themselves. Their exploits, achievements, and even their failures. This song brings it all back to us and sends us off to join the hunt again. Fucking awesome work from Capcom, for 18 years straight.
How does this not have a ton of likes?

Monster Hunter is my favorite game to Role Play in. Maybe I'm from another planet and lost my memories. Maybe I've come from a storied lineage. Maybe my mother was a Rider. So many possibilities.
This is the best theme capcom has ever made if not the best theme in gaming to me and it was absolutely unreal when it played during the fatalis hunt in world, I felt a huge adrenaline rush and when I defeated fatalis, there was a somber moment I felt and I paused the game then broke into tears. The joy this theme brings me throughout my years of hunting is absolutely magical
"Nay the honor is all ours!" Is another really good track you should listen to. It's a crime they only put this in one specific arena quest.
an arena quest fighting giant pigs no less. most epic pig fight ever

Hearing Proof of a Hero right after bashing Fatalis in the face with a dragonator was the best moment in all of Monster Hunter World, the shivers were so strong it was more akin to trembling
Edit: also, if you wanna listen to the best Monster Hunter song, you should listen to Valstrax's theme from Monster Hunter Generations Ultimate

It really was a brilliant choice to add in Proof of a Hero in that fight :D It mixes so well with the intensity of the fight, but now you know it's close, you are almost done, but you cannot relax until it is fully over. The amount of times I have seen the quest fail in the last moments, either due to tha tone last cart, or simply running out of time, makes it so much more intense!
It is epic for Fatalis as well. He goes Super Seien after that. I failed more than 10 times before my FD during the final phase. lol me
@@slayeroffurries1115 Why not
Proof of Hero is not just a song, but the story of the hero itself.
Its an…anthem? 😏😍😍😏😍🤣
Iceborne fatalis quest really justify this song to be used at that moment. It really give you the dopamine needed to survive that last 5% of that hunt.
Love how Marco gets into the music like he can physically feel it
It's actually one of the main reasons I subscribed, because I'm just like this and havent really seen anyone else react so, whole bodied, to music like this before.

“Pride of a nameless hunter” is a good one from MH world too.
Edit: pride of a nameless HUNTER, not nameless hero.
Pride of a Nameless Hero is a faster variation on the main theme of World with a little Proof of a Hero added in.
Pride of a nameless *hunter
@@run9026 yeah sorry I noticed that error lol
"Nay! The Honor is ours! " is also super underrated, most ppl probably never heard it ingame. Just plays in a single event quest iirc
@@kazeviu1601 Everyone remembers it from the final Iceborne direct, that ending was godly.
The truly great thing about this piece is how sparingly it is used. It doesn't play just because you're slapping any big old lizard around, it only features against a select few particularily great opponents, towering beasts that seem almost invincible.
And it doesn't just play from the start, it plays on key moments, most prominently, when you hit the thing with a dragonator. This song is the equivalent of a message telling you: This is the moment, this is the time you are turning this around. The monster had its time in the spotlight, sounding oppressive and terrifying but now the focus is on you, the hunter.
Beautifully said , if i could give you more thumbs up i would.
It also plays for a mantis.
After you finally trash her giant mecha.
Never fails to deliver goosebumps! Also, Proof of a Great UA-cam Channel, right here...

My first experience fighting Lao Shan Lung as it slowly looms into the final zone and it's time to settle things right then and there and this music starts playing...15 years ago and still the excitement lingers in my memory.
This theme playing during an epic fight always elevates the experience. You get goosebumps, your heartrate speeds up and crack a grin and tell yourself, "This. This is Monster Hunter."
It's always wonderful to hear this in a fight cause you can tell when it's playing. It's a battle cry, it drives hunters to new limits. Even unskilled hunters become unstoppable.
Nothing beats the feeling of when you trigger this song by hitting Fatalis with dragonator, only for it to stand up and wipe your team out with a 360 fire breath afterwards. We were so frustrated that we call this song "proof of a Fatalis"
Ahtal ka is also pretty close but yeah Fatalis is Fatalis
it's better that you EXPECT it to be whipped out in the ultimate boss fight and it always is
One of my hunting buddies made a comment one time saying that Monster Hunter is similar to Doom in the fact that the soundtrack doesn’t just add flavor to the experience, it’s an essential part of the experience and I honestly couldn’t agree more. Nothing gets my blood pumping more than when you hit Fatalis with the dragonator near the end of the fight and a special version of Proof of a Hero starts playing
I do remember at first when Fatalis came out and it was a hard fight and in the back of my mind I kept thinking: "Can we finish this hunt or we'll fail and all cart?" and the building up pressure and then Fatalis gets hit with the Dragonator...and "Proof of a Hero" plays.
And my mental goes from "Holy shit can we even do this?" to "It's official, this bitch's ass WILL be mine!" in a snap.
Khezu: ...
The proof of a hero theme has so much superman theme vibes, it's heroic, powerful and full of light. Amazing theme song man.
I would love to be an audience member at a symphony hall sitting behind marco, you get a free hype man for the music
The moment the horn fanfare plays when you Dragonator Jhen Moran for the 1st time in Tri, is still one of the most epic moments I've experienced in a video. Gave me chills.
The section at 5:08 was the theme song of the main guest house in the original Monster Hunter game, it was basically the song that played when you were back at home after a hunt. I see it as the foil to the main motif, meant go represent community. It plays many times in Monster Hunter, usually whenever there's some sort of community activity going on. It's called "Beneath All the Stars in the Sky," easily my favorite musical motif in Monster Hunter.
It represents the communities you defend as a hunter.
Mhm it’s gorgeous too
The best thing about Proof of a Hero is that it gets tweaked for every time you hear it as the series goes on.
I would highly recommend listening to both Monster Hunter Rise's version of Proof of a Hero from the fight with Allmother Narwa, and then the evolution for the expansion Sunbreak from the fight with Gaismagorm. They're all tweaked differently, and it's SO good.
personally I think the best iteration is gen ultimates, ahtal ka's rendition is absolutely spine-tingling.
Unleashing mounted punisher on narwa and the music changes is the one the best feeling moment
Gen ultimate is probably the best version in the series
Finally someone who notices the John Williams spirit in this masterpiece's heart! I've been listening and feeling it for around 14 years now and my heart still pumps with all its fire when it plays!
Loved to hear the impressions of someone within the music scene! keep up the good vibes you give us on the videos!
I just got into monster hunter, and when hearing this music, it totally gave me the feeling of the superman movie, it does its own thing but I couldnt help but compare it, I didn't even break it down further to compare it to John Williams, but your comment cemented it for me, I even hear a little bit of the original star wars theme in it now, and other things by JW
Your stage experience really shows with your facial expressions, they're just a little bigger and more exaggerated than most people's and it's incredibly charming.
I try to not overdue it - genuinely. I’m not into fake. But when I’m alone in a little booth…the eyebrows do take it away for sure 😂
I love how obviously into it you get. You EMBODY the music-I wish I could’ve seen you on stage!
This composition is great, it really hits all the high points like you said! I'm looking forward to the original version too (which is what plays in the final phase of the Fatalis fight)! This song really somehow captures limitless courage and KNOWING you can win.
Edit: I meant to say the combat version, not original. My mistake!
ISNT this the original?!
@@MarcoMeatball blah, my mistake! This is the original “main theme” version, so you are correct! I meant the combat version, which was also from the original game, but I tend to call it the original just because there’s so many combat variations.

When Proof of a Hero hits you just can't help but yell "LET'S FREAKIN' GOOOOO!" in that last leg of the fight in anticipation of landing that last blow when the monster drops. It's a great hype song that appears at the apex of a great hunt and gives you that burst of energy. It's great.
The fact that they played Proof of a Hero in the Japanese Olympics is just a testament of how incredibly breathtaking this piece is.
Another one you HAVE TO visit is Winds of Departure from MH4 as well. Such an amazing piece that makes me feel like starting an adventure and seeing the amazing things along the way. MH4u was my first MH so it might be my bias, but it really is outstanding.

Proof of a hero is a phenomenal piece no matter what. When it kicked in during gaismagorm 🤯. His theme was so dark and foreboding, contrasted against proof of a hero, when it kicked it it was another level of satisfaction.

For about 20 years, since I first played the Monster Hunter series, this game franchise has consistently held one philosophy: The monsters are not enemies of humans, but rather fellow inhabitants of a beautiful, vast, and sometimes terrifying natural ecosystem in which we coexist. "A proof of a hero" perfectly embodies this philosophy. The rhythm that imparts the courage to engage in fierce battle, followed by the soft and compassionate rhythm, expresses the life-or-death struggle between hunters and monsters, as well as the world that serves as their stage.
When I was doing fatalis, I did it solo so I had like 100 tries before going into phase 3 and the moment this music kicked in, I was litterally crying because of the emotions it translates, I don't know much in terms of "music language" but this one I felt every single note of it and it's still my favorite video game music
I'm honestly having so much genuine fun watching you have fun with the music that watching the video was worth it for that alone.
I never played Monster Hunter or even listened to its music. I might change that. Marco at it again making me broaden my musical horizon.
Happily enjoying you enjoy new music!
The Monster Hunter Generations Ultimate Proof of a Hero version makes me tear up, no matter how many times I listen to it. It gives me flashbacks of all the times I've played with my family, years of playing and truly enjoying being with family. A part of my Childhood I hold close to my heart. ❤
Proof of the Hero when it starts to play, it feels like the buff you need to defeat the monster that has the strength like a god
I rememer the fist time I hunted the Lao-shan lung (sorta the first big fight with a huge elder dragon) for the first time, I was about 10, The fight takes you through a series of defenses and fortifications in a valley, trying to stop this inmense, larger than life beast. Then, when you're cornered, all the fortifications in the valley destroyed, the beast starts aproaching the final fortess. When you rush through the battlements you feel the buildup of proof of a hero, the monster aproaches and when you enter final combat with the elder dragon the theme drops and it feels like you're the last defender of the world.
It marked me, one of the most memorable moments of my childhood.
Proof of a hero just hypes you up, making you feel like you can overcome anything!
THE TIME HAS COME!!
Loved watching this one.
I love that you just got completely enveloped in the music once it really began. I know that exact feeling. This track is a big part of who I am, since I started playing Monster Hunter during my first deployment back in 2007. Monster Hunter has been my favorite franchise since, and this track resonates with me as a veteran of the game.
You couldn’t find a better definition of the world “Invigorating” if you did your best to attest it to another anthem. It never loses its potency. I can’t get enough of it, and I doubt any of us fellow Hunters can resist the call to adventure and heroism.
Proof of a hero is unlike any other song I have ever heard when this song comes on during the most tense moments of a hunt when you have no faints left and both you and the monster are on your last legs is the most memorable things to me and really encapsulates why I love monster hunter so much
I love that in every throw down with some massive dragon that threatens entire regions there comes a moment when this plays.
The monster has a theme, sometimes several even, and throughout the fight against this beast of incredible power you've had to listen to it's own theme as it throws everything it can at you. Slowly you whittle this behemoth down grinding away at a monster that seems nigh invincible and just as you start to think the damn thing simply _can't_ be killed the monster's music cuts out. And in it's place is Proof of a Hero, _your_ theme, overtaking the beast's and you just know you're on the final stretch. That finally this creature is on it's last legs and victory is within your grasp.
It's story telling without any words and it's beautiful.
One fun fact, when you Dragonator Fatalis in MHW, it plays the classic Proof of a Hero as a callback to his first showing.
Every time i hear this song or melody when i play monster hunter it gets my spirit going just as you said. i stand proud for this. thank you for reacting. making me a proud monster hunter veteran
That song is so amazing, almost everytime during a BIg monsters end phase, when this piece comes out I start crying.
Nobody need a Hunting Horn in the Fatalis fight in World.
Because every single time Proof of a Hero start slaping everybody got a 10.000 boost in morale.
Man this always brings back memories. I remember back when I would play MH on my PSP with all my friends I'd just let the cinematic play every time I booted the game up. It really got me so pumped for whatever hunts we were gonna take on that day.
I always get so nostalgic listening to this. This game series was integral to my teenage years.
That rush you get whenever Proof of a Hero kicks in during a game's most dramatic hunts, in that moment when you land the Dragonator or other ultra-powerful anti-Dragon weapon is unparalleled. In those instances it kicks off either right at the build-up or the climax. It hits exceptionally hard if the fight is difficult, too. 4U Gogmazios and of course World's Fatalis stand out. They're some of the most memorable moments you'll get in these games.
Granted, that's a different variation from what you listened to in this video. As far as Monster Hunter main themes go, I'm personally particularly partial to "To One With Life" from Tri/3U (for which I also strongly recommend a listen!), but there's a reason Proof of a Hero is so iconic. Truly the anthem of the series.
Actually, if I may make a perhaps rather greedy suggestion (since it'd probably be a lot more work for you); if you intend to hear the other versions of this theme, many of which play during significant hunts, as I mentioned, perhaps it'd complement the experience to hear the music that plays in those battles before Proof of a Hero kicks in? Since presumably they were made to fit that experience. But again, I know it's kinda greedy to ask, these videos are already great!
:))))
As a Hunter who played since the Monster Hunter 2 / Monster Hunter Dos (The second game in the series that was out on PS2), whenever I hear Proof of a Hero, I always shed a little bit of tear of pride.
When proof of hero played during the fatalis quest in iceborne it was the first time I actually liked the song because iceborne fatalis is the first time in all of monster hunter games that I have struggled so much. And I have been playing since freedom on the PSP
When you talked about the horns being invigorating all I could think was how true it was. When my friends and fought Fatalis we only had 1 cart left and pretty much knew we would lose. Then proof of a hero started playing and felt it just gave a surge of adrenaline
I'm not sure if anyone else has noted, but usually, each game's "Proof of a Hero" is slightly different BECAUSE it ends up incorporating the game's unique main theme, if it has one. So the second, "contemplative" part is from WORLD'S main theme. If you listen to MHTri's, you'll hear Tri's main theme. These probably won't hit as hard if you don't get attached to those particular games, but it's really neat.
Even for a noob like me, Proof of a Hero draws out my inner Mumen Rider, and somehow takes me through the quest after 2 carts and no heals. I keep coming out of quest clears with my entire body's bones broken, only to throw myself into another life or death situation, and willingly. It's that kind of song. And gods be damned, I can't get enough of it.
You are afraid of the quest you have before you, but the song takes that feeling and converts into strenght and will. It's your duty as a hunter, you are the last line between the ancient dragon and the tiny village. You start as a rookie hunter and when you hear that means, you are not that rookie anymore you are the hero and.... that's your proof.
POH is definitely the best mega-potion that you could give to any hunter
"To one with life" is another iconic song from monster hunter (specifically from mhTri) and probably the only song that could replace proof of hero as THE monster hunter main theme.
5:07 this is the section I would like to describe as "why we need to be a hero for this world in the first place".
can't wait for you to listen to all the other versions! proof of a hero is definitely one of my all time favorite themes in general
This song saved me. It helped me and gave me strength when i was in a really bad moment.
It's perfect because is you're theme! In a epic intense fight with a force that can destroy everything this is you're moment
Now consider this with its best use in the series, the giant monster sieges where this song gives you that last push to victory.
This song is absolutely brilliant
MHW is full of this insanely inspirational music that makes you wanna fucking go into the forest and fight a dragon. Hell fucking yes.
Nothing amps you up in a hunt more than this theme playing
When this plays in the boss fight, it's fucking GO TIME!
All stand, for the Monster Hunter National Anthem.
I absolutely just changed the title to this 😂
As a MH Vet this song will never not give me chills.
I always felt the interlude with the harp was more about the living town after the hunt and all the effort and goings-on of the people to finish the normal work of the frontier life. I could totally see it as an explorative theme and appreciating the beauty of the world, but I just feel like there are so many jobs in town that make the Hunter's work great and give it purpose (from armor smithing to research), that it's hard to leave their efforts unsung here.
When proof of a Hero kicks in during the final phase of a fight, those are some of the biggest adrenaline spikes I've gotten from a video game.
The moment Proof of a Hero drops, Every single hunter knows that the end of the struggle is at hand! Its a call not just to arms but a rally call that we can win! That we can do this! That what ever we are facing shall indeed fall and that we can achieve a triumphant conclusion!
I always tear up when hearing proof of a hero since it reminds me of the monster hunter community and how much fun i still have with mh.
Also its always very epic firing a big spear into big monsters like jhen mohran or zohra magdaros and this track strats playing xD
A late (just by a little bit) 18th birthday gift to MH! 18 years ago on the PS2.
Proof Of A Hero always makes me feel like I can overcome anything in front of me. It is the most OP song and never fails to get me hype.
Every time I'm up against a new final boss, once it kicks in mid-fight, I end up crying. No other series has evoked the range of emotion that Monster Hunter gives me.
Chills & Goosebumps literally.
Just beat fatalis in world.... when you have been dodging one shots, running for your life, working your ass off for the kill... and in the final moments of itsfight this starts to play... so epic
Proof of a Hero is such a great piece of music especially when it plays while facing off one of these Elder Dragons. When you feel like this monster is extremely destructive and you're basically a mere human and then this music kicks in when you land a big hit or well reducing the HP to a certain point you get pumped up even more and the game tells you "Ey, you're doing a great job! Now let's finish this battle of centuries!"
I still remember my first experience of this song kicking in. I was around 10 years old and fought against lao Shan lung in freedom unite. At the last stage of the map, where the only thing between pokke village (technically a giant gate and not the village itself) and this mountain of a dragon, is the player
The beauty of Proof of A Hero is that it rarely ever plays during normal gameplay. Every version of it is reserved for specific monsters and specific moments, usually only playing in full during the last phase of final bosses, Proof of A Hero is only earned by becoming the Hero, it's not the theme of Monster Hunter, it's the theme of THE Monster Hunter, or in this case, The Player. Just as much as Fatalis, Allmother Narwa, or other massive terrifying monsters have their themes, Proof of A Hero is the theme of the Hunter, of the Hero of the story, fighting against Hopeless Odds and not just surviving, but winning. And I love how well that emotion is conveyed in the song.
You often hear this theme cut in on the final phase of the final monster fight in each generation. The monster's boss theme cuts out and YOUR boss theme starts playing.
The attention to detail and musical cues from games like Monster Hunter really heighten the experience and it's nice to see people who hone in on that. If you ever do more content revolving around Monster Hunter, I highly recommend the Rotten Vale themes from Monster Hunter World; sometimes known as Odogaron's theme.
I've been OG monster hunter since the first ever game in PS2. I had some gripes here and there for the games but Proof of a Hero never fails me whatever game its in. It always comes up in my worst hunts and take me to victory.
just hearing the proof of a Hero awakens the hunter blood in my body

Every Proof of a hero is like an adrenaline rush and i love it.
It's the greatest "Away to me, Pig" musical theme, you know you're doing it right, that you're done climbing the hill and now you're picking up speed towards victory
Holy moly I love this theme, but it’d be great if you did a video on “Nay! The Honor is All Ours”. It’s my favorite piece from the whole series. When it played in the final dev diary of Iceborne, I damn near cried. It uses clever motif’s from Iceborne themes and it just hits like a truck in the emotions.
the first time I heard this song was on the ps2 while playing at my uncle's place every time I hear it it reminds me of when I beat fatalis for the first time and my uncle's telling me "you're in the big leagues now kid" it brings a tear to my eye
I like to think that the horns, trumpets and trombones, who pass around and echo the melody, are 3 blade masters and the timpani/bass drum is the gunner rounding out the 4 person hunting party. The strings and woodwinds meanwhile are describing the environment and setting the scene. Monster hunter has always had a big multiplayer focus so I feel that this was intended by the composer. Who doesn’t love Proof of a Hero?
