I still can't believe it's real - it actually exists. I remember watching the first CGI animations of BFR, I felt awe, but I had this doubt that such a huge rocket could ever be built by a private company. Yet here it is, progressing further with each launch. One day people will walk on Mars.
The sound waves are so insanely powerful they literally rip the atmosphere apart and create a vacuum between waves and it then slams together again, that's what causes the strange crackling sound during rocket launches

It really amazes me what this private company is able to do. All these bright minds working on such an incredible project. Its really inspiring. Well done to the SpaceX's video editing team. Those are some amazing shots compiled in this video. The Starship project is great, but this video itself deserves a lot of credit!
If it was rendered the starship would not have been tumbling. They would have rendered it as it was intended to fly. The tumbling and the inability to stop it effectively was the initial reason it failed on re-entry. If you argue otherwise, how will you explain this when re-entry is successful on IFT4. And before the end of the year, its return to Starbase Texas upon re-entry.
simple, cherry pick the coolest looking shots as it tumbles uncontrollably and generates cool looking plasma, cut out the parts where it breaks up and where you can see the failures happening.

I've been watching Starship for all of my teenage years, I have the 24/7 live stream of starbase on my TV every hour of the day. These videos are amazing and VERY motivating, I'm soon to be an adult and I can't wait to tell my grandkids about the early days of starship development like many old folk talk about the Apollo program these days. :)

If you've ever flown in an airplane you can see the planes exhaust cast a shadow on the ground from way high up, it tripped me out the first time I saw it, but that's what we are seeing.
Man the videos space x keeps putting out with the flights continue to make it all even more enjoyable. One can really take in and appreciate even more, all the hard work and engineering at work.

Some interesting heat shield related ideas that may have already been commented: > Perhaps wrapping the Starship heat tile areas with a heavy-duty type automotive wrap film to hold the tiles in place until re-entry burns it off. Could also enable multi-colours, chrome, or advertisement logos. > Perhaps the commonly suggested placement of flaps leeward of the heat shield would not only reduce the number of tile shapes required, but could also aid in the Starship's forward and aft sections to more closely match the profile of a Dragon capsule (blunt end tapered to narrow) for aerodynamic stability. > Perhaps an external, track mounted robo-arm to inspect for and replace missing tiles, and also aid in attaching Starships together for fuel transfers. > Perhaps a semicircular shaped nosecone with an "eyelid type" half that rotates within the slightly larger diameter heat shield covered “half” would also enable less tile shapes as the entire shield surface would essentially be one consistent radius (if flaps located as mentioned above), and would also allow for a large cargo door. This semicircular nose cone might also be removable at Stage Zero to allow for various cylinder shaped third party cargo configurations to be inserted (like a battery into a flashlight handle) within a standardized Starship. Eg. A space station segment could be inserted to convert a Starship into a human-carrying spaceship or refuelling tanks could be inserted to convert it into a tanker, etc. Looking forward to the fourth launch!

Allow me to explain this, This is called Hot Stage Separation/Hot Staging!!!!!!! It is where Starship Boosters shuts down 30 Raptor Engines and keep the center 3 Raptor Engines firing, and then Starship Spacecrafts fire the 3 Raptor Vacuum Engines and milliseconds later Starship Spacecrafts separate from Starship Boosters and fires the center 3 Raptor Sea Level Engines, and then Starship Boosters flip to the opposite direction using the gimbaling of the center 3 Raptor Engines and the rotation of the Grid Fins, and then Starship Boosters will initiate the Boost Back Burn using all the 13 Center Gimbaling Raptor Engines to head straight to the ocean of The Gulf of Mexico or (during Starship Test Flight 5 and very soon in the future) return to The Launch Site to be caught by the Mechazilla Arms on The Orbital Launch Tower after initiating the Splashdown Burn/Landing Burn!!!!!!!!!!!!
The Falcon Heavy test flight video won an Emmy. And it had heavy emphasis on crowd reaction. Perhaps there is another award waiting on a restreamer supercut on seeing the plasma.

It ended up being the hot stage ring partially detaching during reentry. With only one hook holding it, it twisted violently in the wind, throwing the booster off course

Getting to see the reentry plasma like that was incredible. To my knowledge this is the first time footage like this was actually captured.
There is a video of a F9 fairing half during re-entry. You can see the plasma on that video too. But this look so much better imo

1:05 I'm a bit curious about the visual phenomenon that caused the streak extending from lower left towards the upper center part of the screen. Great video and amazing test flight! Congrats to everyone at SpaceX!

it's the shadow from the rocket exhaust
If you've ever flown in an airplane you can see the planes exhaust cast a shadow on the ground from way high up, it tripped me out the first time I saw it, but that's what we are seeing.
1:37 is a perfect shot to show flat earthers, and they can't use the "fisheye lens" excuse as it literally goes upside down yet maintains the curve
I'm not a flat earther but I'm pretty sure it still uses a somewhat high FOV lens
Man the videos space x keeps putting out with the flights continue to make it all even more enjoyable. One can really take in and appreciate even more, all the hard work and engineering at work.

Some interesting heat shield related ideas that may have already been commented:
> Perhaps wrapping the Starship heat tile areas with a heavy-duty type automotive wrap film to hold the tiles in place until re-entry burns it off. Could also enable multi-colours, chrome, or advertisement logos.
> Perhaps the commonly suggested placement of flaps leeward of the heat shield would not only reduce the number of tile shapes required, but could also aid in the Starship's forward and aft sections to more closely match the profile of a Dragon capsule (blunt end tapered to narrow) for aerodynamic stability.
> Perhaps an external, track mounted robo-arm to inspect for and replace missing tiles, and also aid in attaching Starships together for fuel transfers.
> Perhaps a semicircular shaped nosecone with an "eyelid type" half that rotates within the slightly larger diameter heat shield covered “half” would also enable less tile shapes as the entire shield surface would essentially be one consistent radius (if flaps located as mentioned above), and would also allow for a large cargo door.
This semicircular nose cone might also be removable at Stage Zero to allow for various cylinder shaped third party cargo configurations to be inserted (like a battery into a flashlight handle) within a standardized Starship. Eg. A space station segment could be inserted to convert a Starship into a human-carrying spaceship or refuelling tanks could be inserted to convert it into a tanker, etc.

Something that burns off on reentry would ruin the goal of rapid reuse. The flaps are needed to control the reentry, they have to be in the plasma.
@@whocares2277 Yes, a film application would definitely require some extra amount of time to install, but it might be handy in enabling there to be a ship to reuse:)
I also agree, however, the further aft placement of the flaps should still enable them to engage the plasma flow depending on their adjustable orientation…

1:12 is weird - why does it look like all engines are still running? All but 3 were shut down for stage separation
The camera can capture things really far well so the 3 engine’s flares were bright enough to make it look like all engines are running
Allow me to explain this,
This is called
Hot Stage Separation/Hot Staging!!!!!!!
It is where Starship Boosters shuts down 30 Raptor Engines and keep the center 3 Raptor Engines firing, and then Starship Spacecrafts fire the 3 Raptor Vacuum Engines and milliseconds later Starship Spacecrafts separate from Starship Boosters and fires the center 3 Raptor Sea Level Engines, and then Starship Boosters flip to the opposite direction using the gimbaling of the center 3 Raptor Engines and the rotation of the Grid Fins, and then Starship Boosters will initiate the Boost Back Burn using all the 13 Center Gimbaling Raptor Engines to head straight to the ocean of The Gulf of Mexico or (during Starship Test Flight 5 and very soon in the future) return to The Launch Site to be caught by the Mechazilla Arms on The Orbital Launch Tower after initiating the Splashdown Burn/Landing Burn!!!!!!!!!!!!

Who knows, maybe that is a piece of engine shield broken off and it is a possible Grid Fin Malfunction that caused Booster 10 to spin uncontrollably!!!!!!!!!
I am sure Booster 11 will have more new upgrades that will help Booster 11 survive the decent down to The Gulf of Mexico to do the Ocean Landing Burn!!!!!!!!!!
Not only that, but it looks like whatever that piece was, it chipped away some paint off of one of the Grid Fins on Booster 10 in literal milliseconds which is the Grid Fin we see on Booster 10’s mounted camera!!!!!!!!!!

It ended up being the hot stage ring partially detaching during reentry. With only one hook holding it, it twisted violently in the wind, throwing the booster off course
