    Can the Pass Phrase account be recovered in any wallet other than the ledger, with the 24 words Recovery phrase + its 1 associated Passphrase.
    example: If I loose my ledger (or ledger goes out of stock/bankrupt etc) and I don't have any access to a new ledger for days, and in an emergency I want to access my funds of my "PASSPHRASE ACCOUNT" through a software wallet. will that be possible?
    Thanks!

      Hi, Your concern is legit. Don't worry, all the recovery phrases and passphrases created by your Ledger device comply with the BIP39 standard - github.com/bitcoin/bips/blob/master/bip-0039.mediawiki
      Hence, you can enter your recovery phrase + passphrase in the BIP39 compatible wallets (like a Trezor, ColdCard, Electrum etc.) to get access to your cryptos. You can have a look at this article on how to recover your passphrase accounts - support.ledger.com/hc/en-us/articles/4983095135261-How-to-recover-your-passphrase-accounts-?support=true

      The Safepal soft wallet has the option of inputting the 25th word (passphrase) recovery. And it gives you the choice of 12 or 24 word recovery phrase as well. It's nice to know there's a soft wallet back up if all hardware wallet companies go bankrupt.

    I'm a little bit confuse. In the case I had a first Ledger device and on this device, when I setted up my first account I had previously added a passphrase. Does this mean that with only the Recovery phrase I will not be able to recover my account ?
    Do I need to have both Recovery Phrase and the Old Pass Phrase in order to be able to access my account like before ?
    or
    It's the Recovery Phrase need to recover your old accounts and the Pass Phrase is only to separate the account authorization ?

    Is adding a passphrase any extra security (say someone guessing the 24 word one day) or is it merely an extra layer of protection in the event someone finds the 24 word seed? I suppose without the passphrase the 24 word is 256bit and rather secure by itself?

    I love the idea of the passphrase but I don't like that you can't restore to "any" BIP39 wallet, it needs to be a hardware wallet. That's not great in a disaster recovery/urgent situation trying to restore. I trust in the blockchain but I don't trust being locked to a hardware device with no option of recovery elsewhere. Until there is more widespread universal use of the passphrase system I just don't feel comfortable locking in like that.

I couldn’t find the regular account that the phassphrase was set to. I think I found the regular account. The ledger connected to the account but the something wrong prompt keep coming up. I ended up attaching pin and phassphrase to all acounts. When I run the recovery check it was always correct. I thought it would say it wasn’t correct if I had phassphrase attached? Like I said I think I found the ledger that is attached to recovery accounts that my funds are in cause when I added accounts it pulled up those accounts. But wouldn’t send cause said recovery or phassphrase wasn’t connected. I really need to figure this out. Please help. I’m so confused

    3. to recover passphrase wallet use the 24 recovery words + passphrase PIN

    • @Ledger
      @Ledger  2 роки тому +1

      Thanks for the question, if you type a different passphrase into the device you won't be able to access your old passphrase accounts. When restoring your passphras accounts it's important that both the 24-word recovery phrase and the exact same passphrase are seeded in the device. Hope this answers your question!

    • @Ledger
      @Ledger  2 роки тому +3

      Good question and apologies for the confusion, assuming the correct 24-word recovery phrase is seeded into the device, you can always overwrite your current passphrase with a new passphrase (or an old passphrase that secures your old accounts). The process of overwriting a passphrase is exactly the same as the steps for setting up a passphrase. Overwriting a passphrase doesn't "destroy" the accounts secured by that passphrase, it simply "loads" a new set of passphrase accounts into the device. Hope this helps clarify but don't hesitate if you have any other questions :)

    UPDATE : You're almost right ! 😛
    It only recovers your passphrase wallet (and all its associated accounts) if you enter same exactly the same passphrase, otherwise it creates a new passphrase wallet but do not erase the existing one. That means you can have 2 devices associated to same "classic" wallet (=same recovery phrases and accounts) but with 2 differents passphrases (and different "secret" accounts).
