Hi Carl and thanks for the videos. What I like about your videos is that you tell it the way it is. If you don't get a contact, you are not afraid to say. That's refreshing as I've seen too many videos edited to give the perfect impression. Yours are real and thank-you for it. Question, do you prefer the rucksack to the carry frame? I've just opted for the rucksack for my 320 and one for a 351/2 when I can find a decent one. Best 73 Ace G6XIB

great video carl ,just started to learn ham radio ,hope to do exam next month ,I have two 351 and getting a 320, biggest problem I have is I can transmit and receive on all the 351s with each other at the club ,under supervision ,but can only transmit to non military radios ,cant receive from non military radios, looking into it I know this can happen sometimes ,chaps at club have no experience with military gear, ive done all the checks as said in the manual all working there ,any idears thanks tony
I don't get the reference. The Clansman are reliable that's why they were used in active service (Falklands, Northern Ireland etc). The ones we buy as amateur operators are old, decommissioned etc so they may last a lifetime or 2 weeks.
@@M0SZT Hi there. The pro word "contact" means that you have engaged with or have been engaged with the enemy. The correct voice procedure would be something like this "Hello 'call sign' this is 'call sign' Contact! wait out. The "wait out" is informing the receiving call sign to wait for a further update on the contact and as you will know the "out" is to inform that the transmission has ended and you are not expecting a reply...it's just a me thing about the use of the word, i also get a bit twitchy when i hear Arial when someone is talking about an antenna, after-all the main use for Arial is to wash clothing where as an antenna is used for Tx/Rx ;-)
Hi, I'm not sure to be honest, the licence conditions do not stipulate that we follow what the military would do and the RSGB talk about arials and not antennas?

I do have Yugoslavian military radio
34mhz - 37.995mhz , i got it as a gift only one time i heard people speaking and they where speaking in french

Cool radio. Are military surplus radios readily available in UK?
Low band VHF (4m and 6m) are more typical, then Clansman PRC-320 can be found readily for HF, more modern military radio less so.
Do the need any mods for amateur use, or they good to go as standard from the Military? Thanks
