I haven't used a stabliser as I said, but I also never use it when doing hand embroidery, felting, cross stitch or any other of the needle crafts they say to use it with! Maybe I'm just a rebel :-p Good luck with your journey. Do it how you want to do it. Maybe more elaborate patterns need a stabilser. I guess I'll find out in due course.

It really depends on the extension used for the file and machine. I have yet to do this for myself so it will be a learning experience for me too!

I don’t believe I have a stabiliser. I’m still learning myself and this was my first use. I just set it up with everything it came with.
