It was also a planned lack of response. There is a huge river going through Jasper. They could have used millions of cubic meters of water if they needed to ensure the town didn't even get a small amount of damage.

I work in the fire industry, in Alberta. What he is saying is a load of BS. Gross mismanagement, Gross failure to act. A private company was brought in to protect the town. This company needs 3 days set up to fully. Parks were given full information and guidance to bring this private company in ASAP and parks refused until it was too late. They only got fully deployed on 2/3 of the town. Thats the part that did not burn. Dont blame Alberta, they could do ZERO. Its federal lands.
The issues here appear to be more around the forest management rather than the firefighting.

That was one of the first things I thought of when this happened. The town of Banff has changed so much over the past five years. It has made driving and parking there very difficult. But Jasper has remained relatively the same. Middle class people living directly outside of these towns won’t be able to afford to visit them soon, just another aspect of life only the wealthy will be able to enjoy.
