Remeber that in those times Giulia whould likely be killed in asylum, because of T4 operations lead by germans in war. And she survive long enough because war ended when she arived.
I have theory, that her father’s power as general saves Martha anyway - because she could be dead as someone not worthy to be alive.

There is a good documentary available in Italian, I saw it today - causal discover - after having finished the game days ago.
Looks like the Volterra’s psychiatric institute was particularly active during WWII, with a good affluence of people (both who acted like a crazy man to avoid get recruited and who got closed in for others reasons). And wasn’t rare to the institute to receive young children, some for a lifetime.
So, this game MIGHT actually be inspired from a real story

The fact that she keeps blacking out indicates she isn’t the only alter present in the system. Either Martha is still an altar that has gone dormant, or Julia and Martha may have even integrated, which occurs commonly when some alters find they would be stronger together rather than split, and seeing as the system refers to Julia as the stronger of the two, it would make sense they have integrated. It is very unlikely for any kind of alter to be violent, that said a persecutor alter may use self defence in the context of self preservation with situations like the mother being killed.

I really don’t think she has DID, honestly. People dealing with DID don’t see alters as separate people walking around alongside them. I’m pretty sure she has schizophrenia, which would also be… unfortunate…. Making mental illness scary isn’t exactly in good taste.

Most depictions of D I D aren’t accurate though are they, look specifically at the movies like Split etc, they depict specific alters as extra terrestrial superhumans which we all know is hyperbolic. That said, she is in a mental institution, there’s no way to know whether what she sees is real or if what she sees is the inner world, Either way you are right, it’s definitely not doing any community is any favours by trivialising and making fear out of what is a very serious mental health issues for some@@tarobug2560

@@traviejnr oh absolutely. If I had been more awake I would have gone into more detail- but my main issues with the DID label were that she sees her ‘sister’ in photographs and in person (albeit she IS an unreliable narrator) and it feels more like a schizoaffective disorder rather than DID. I won’t say I’m uniquely qualified to talk on the subject, but I *do* see myself out of the corner of my eyes on occasion and have been diagnosed with SAD. I am glad we can agree on the game being unkind to those of us who deal with mental illnesses of all sorts though, and while I *will* give it kudos for being a genuinely unsettling game… it’s not… it’s not *good* so to speak. There’s so much media out there that demonizes neurodivergent folk and I really wish we could move past that as a society and present these issues *as they are* in a more educational sense. I enjoyed the game but I didn’t *like* it.

I actually kind of pieced the entire lore in a way that I hope makes sense!
BIG SPOILER WARNING FOR BOTH MARTHA IS DEAD AND TOWN OF LIGHT!!!!
❌TRIGGER WARNINGS❌FOR SENSITIVE TOPICS SUCH AS: DEATH, ABUSE, MENTAL ILLNESS, MISCARRIAGE, SUICIDAL BEHAVIOR
To start off, it’s actually important to note that Wired Production’s first game, Town of Light, is technically a sort of sequel/prequel to Martha is dead. In the game it actually gives some background on Irene, the mother, and explains how she impacted the story. In Town of light, you play as a character named Rene who goes through her memories of the mental institution that Martha herself was placed in at the end of the game. When you go through the old documents talking about the patients sent there, you actually find out Irene was sent there a few years after the birth of Martha.
Lore wise, this is how I assume the timeline goes:
1.) Martha is born, Irene having a very traumatic and difficult birth which causes her to become infertile afterwards, which is one of the main factors for her declining mental health. Take in the fact that the ‘medicine’ you find around Martha’s home was basically meth, this explains why Irene started having erratic and abusive behavior towards Martha as a child. This is also explained in Town of Light, and her documents describing Irene as being “a danger to her daughter’ (Yes, singular. This was probably the biggest clue way before Martha is Dead came out). So, being fueled by the medicine and her internalized hatred for Martha causing her infertility, Irene began to heavily abuse Martha- as seen in the puppet show at the end of the game.
2.) This is where the lore begins, seeing as how soon after Martha subconsciously created her alter, Guilia. One of the breaking points for Martha is shown when Irene is shown to have hit Martha with a cane over the head, as shown in the puppet show. The symbolism of her ‘mask’ breaking, along her her lips being sewn shut and her ear being caved in, this scene is a reference to the letter Martha had “written” to Guilia in her lock box, describing how when she was young Irene had done something so terrible that she became “deaf” and stopped speaking entirely. This scene highlights the moment the Guilia alter had been created.
3.) The reason for Guilia being made is simple: Guilia was made to withstand the abuse done by Irene, explaining why Guilia was the only one to remember how terribly Irene had treated her. Martha and Guilia would constantly switch back and fourth, which explains their constant lack of memories concerning the other. If Martha was quiet and good, she’d remember the good memories, but if she switched to Guilia when their mother was acting out, she’d remember the bad memories. Several hints are shown through the story to represent Martha’s DID: The memory loss/blackouts through the game, the whole “mother didn’t like it when we switched clothes/beds”, the reason why Guilia’s room was ‘Locked up’(Guilia never existed, so she would t have a room, it’s the reason we only find the puppet show and nothing else), Guilia making the comment about how she “was Martha’s voice”, even showing how in the puppet show when you play as Guilia and get in trouble for smashing the vase on the floor the first thing you say is “Martha made me do it.” Guilia was the shield, the one to take the brunt for Martha growing up, so that way Martha wouldn’t really have to go through the abuse.
3.) Moving on with the story, it’s obvious to see that Martha’s condition only made the abuse worse, Irene probably thinking that Martha was acting out and causing trouble on purpose. This leads us to the disturbing scene that explains why Irene was sent to the asylum back in Town of Light. Irene, at her breaking point, forces Martha/Guilia to eat her own pet dog, as shown in the puppet show. This is the reason why at the beginning, Martha or ‘Guilia’ was sent to stay with the Nanny, and why Guilia has such a strong bond with her. While Irene was getting help at the asylum, Martha would be taken care of until Irene was deemed healthy enough to be sent back home. While it’s not shown how much the asylum mentally helped out Irene, it can be deduced that Irene did in fact stop abusing Martha. Still, the damage had already been done and Martha would forever be changed, which would eventually lead up the tragic story we have before us.
4.) Now I’ll try my best to explain the ‘death’ of Martha. It’s obvious that the alter Guilia possessed romantic feelings for Lapo, her boyfriend and I guess by default, also Martha’s. In Lapo’s final letter to Guilia it’s hinted that he was one of the only ones who also knew about her DID condition writing about how “he felt he was the only one who could tell the two apart”. While I’m not sure how this played out in his relationship with Martha, it can probably be guessed that perhaps the Guilia alter probably spent more time with Lapo and had greater feelings for him than Martha. However, this now bring us to the second biggest plot twist in the game: the pregnancy. The letter hidden in Martha’s box goes to explain how Martha had sex with Lapo and became pregnant. Since the alters are technically two separate people( at least that’s how Martha interpreters her alters) Martha took this as her cheating with Guilia’s boyfriend and become insanely guilty at having ‘betrayed’ her sister. So guilty, that Martha had made a plan to essentially ‘kill herself’ and rid herself of the guilt by telling her mother in hopes that she would be murdered so that Guilia would live a better life when they ‘switched places’ (yes I know it a bit confusing if you don’t have all the clues yet). However, we’re hit by the tragic truth that either way, Martha/Guilia suffered from a miscarriage in a later chapter, as shown when she wakes up to her sheets and private area covered in blood. While it’s not really described as to how it happened, I guessed that the ‘medicine’ was probably the cause of it, seeing how once again- it was meth she was taking. Specifically, Martha(it’s shown when we see Martha’s box and see the medicine in there). It’s why Guilia is confused when she wakes up, thinking she just had an early period, not knowing that she had been taking the medicine and unknowingly gave herself an abortion as Martha. Very sad when you piece it all together :(

    • @Jinxed_l3mon
      @Jinxed_l3mon 2 роки тому +484

5.) I’ll start wrapping it up now. So now that we have most of the clues pieced together it now takes us post ‘Martha’s death.’ Essentially we’re now left with the Guilia alter, the Martha core now “gone” (or maybe not depending on how you interpret the ending scene). The Guilia alter truly believes that her ‘sister’ is dead and gone forever, which steadily declines her mental health and leads to most of the game being consisted of real events and figments of her mind. This is what intrigues me about the game the most: deducting what did and didn’t happen in the game. What was real and what wasn’t? While some scenes we can guarantee did happen: Her family’s passing, the bombing of her town, Lapo’s death, her torture by the soldiers. But then we have the scenes such as: The White Lady, her hallucinations, Martha’s ‘death and funeral’, cutting open Martha’s stomach to find the unborn fetus, the list goes on. For example, while I do think that Martha had ended up killing her mother in a fit of rage (or rather she ended up switching alters mid through the interrogation, which explains why Guilia was distraught and pleaded that ‘it wasn’t her who shot the gun’) I don’t think the whole body dismemberment bit happened. If anything it was a twisted imagery her mind created.
6.) All in all, the big plot twist of Guilia and Martha not being twins- but one person with alters was shocking and unexpected, yet also explained so much in the game. The tape recording of Irene confessing how Martha’s behavior after the lake incident was worrying her and the father, wondering why Martha was suddenly quiet again. Not to mention how the mother had gotten worried after receiving the letter about Guilia being ‘pregnant’, since Irene had hinted that Martha hadn’t switched alters in a long time. And not to mention Irene acting confused/guilty when Martha began talking about Guilia and about how she ‘killed Martha’ and so on.
7.) Finally, I’d like to finish my theory off by exactly explaining why I 100% believe that Martha is the core person while Guilia is the alter. Here is my list of reasons why:
•Martha is the first one introduced in the puppet show, Guilia only being seen after her first traumatic experience with her mother
•Guilia’s ‘room’ being locked up, symbolizing how she never had a room in the first place
•The reason why after the lake incident, Irene calls her Martha instead of Guilia (The whole necklace scene of her putting it on symbolizes this)
•An optional scene you can get in the game when you call your doctor: Guilia introduces herself on the phone which makes the nurse whisper on the phone ‘Doctor, it’s that strange girl again.’ (A hint that Irene had already informed the asylum of Martha’s case)
•❌Trigger warning❌: At the end of the game when given the option to watch the scene of Martha’s suicide attempt, we see her use the sharp edge of what looks to be a dog tag necklace. While her thumb covers up most of the tag, you can clearly see that the name begins with an ‘M’ (showing us without a doubt it was Martha who was checked in)
All in all, I personally believe that this game had an amazing plot design. The sense of mystery a tragic story telling kept me on my toes the entire time. It was a brilliant mix of suspense yet peaceful moments. The beautiful scenery of 1900’s Italy was wonderful to look at, and made interacting with the world very fun. The plot twist was so unsettling and shocking, yet it was everything I wanted in a horror game. I’ve always been a big fan of minds twisting the horror around us, even if some do find it to be a bit cliche. However, what intrigued me was the rare interpretation of DID, which I feel is a topic that I’ve never really seen in any type of media before. My only complaints that I have are for the game mechanics. Some moments in the game were hard to complete due to the lack of detail on certain missions. Most of the time I ended up having to look up tutorials online to do certain tasks. Some objectives weren’t made clear, and it was a a bit annoying how my map wouldn’t highlight the areas that correlated to them. While I did find the graphics beautiful, sometimes the shadow effects would end up completely blacking out certain parts of the maps(it might of been a me problem though, I was playing on Xbox one and some play throughs I’ve seen have mostly pc povs which looked better to me graphic wise so idk). The bike mechanic was kind of goofy and glitchy, it was hard for me to control so I ended up mostly walking around the map(which I didn’t mind cause the scenery was beautiful to explore and take pictures in). And lastly: the infamous loading screen freeze. Luckily this was something almost everyone else was having trouble with so I’m glad it wasn’t just me. The loading screens were very, very troublesome to sit through. My save system actually ended up not working to the point where I couldn’t load back to my personal saves without my game freezing on me. I actually ended up having to play the game by chapter because the game would only let me go back to the auto saves at the beginning of each chapter.
Anyways, I hope you all like my interpretation of the story! Let me now if I messed up any information about the game or timeline and I’ll change it. Have a great day and thanks for reading!!!

@@Jinxed_l3mon Thank you for such an in-depth analysis. Wanted to ask you, what do you think about the cloth Martha found in the cellar? I've noticed that Lapo's handkerchief on his arm was the same cloth as well as Irene's dresses in puppet theater

      @Jinxed_l3mon 2 роки тому +108

@@grumpyAF Thank you! That’s actually something I kinda of passed over during my theory, so thanks for bringing it up! First concerning Lapo, I kind of studied the cloth wrapped around his arm during the cutscene and I don’t think it’s directly connected to Irene’s fabric. The fabric Irene uses is definitely smoother looking and had a certain pattern to it while Lapo’s was more rough around the edges and plain, though it may be because he was a soldier who was part of the revolution. I actually did some research and the color red had a big impact during the war for what the shade symbolized.
War wise- red would symbolize blood and sacrifice along with courage, which would go well with Lapo’s character since he sided with the rebellion against the upcoming Nazi germany.
However, the color red has also been known to represent attracted attention, sin, murder, sexuality, guilt, and sacrifice. Throughout the game Irene has always been linked with the color red, as seen with the fabric thrown in her bin and the dress her puppet wears in the show. The color itself has always been eye catching on its own, especially in such a bleak game such as Martha is dead, where we’re never really introduced to such bright and vibrant colors. However, going back to what I previously said about red having multiple meanings, I assumed that perhaps the symbolism of sin, guilt, murder, and even sacrifice play heavily into her character. Especially when you take into account on how the Guilia alter was very adamant about Irene being involved with Martha’s ‘murder’. Add this with the fact that the particular shade of red fabric seems to be one that Irene had worn frequently within the past, so much that Irene even had a personal number who would supply her with this particular fabric (one of the optional phone calls shows that Irene is very close friends with the woman who gives her it). My guess is that the color red has probably always been something connected to Irene since Martha was young, especially since it’s the same color Irene wore when she abused her.
However, the one mystery that I’m not 100% sure of is if Guilia really did find her mother’s red cloth both at the lake and caught in the river next to her home. Personally, my theory is that it was her mind playing tricks on her in order to place the blame onto Irene. Faced with her ‘sisters’ ‘murder’ Guilia was at an impasse when she struggles to find evidence on who could have done it. Then coincidentally, the same crow we had saw in the cut scene before who had killed off the sparrow(a symbolism for death himself coming to bring Guilia to her fate that she had cheated before) shows itself out of nowhere and leads her to the fabric by the river. The perfect symbolism of death once again leading the protagonist to the inevitable death that awaits in her future. While the loss wasn’t for Guilia herself, the act of the bird leading us to the red fabric brings us the most infamous meaning of the color: death. Specifically, the death of Irene herself by Martha’s hand.

But your details made it way more interesting AND made sense!
I was also wondering about whether or not you think there mightve been a mirror at the end of "Guilia's" room, in order to make it look like there are 2 identical rooms? If you know what I mean, because I'm thinking why would her parents encourage the other alter to this extent, by having a completely separate room with the same furniture! But I dunnoo, im so confused!

@@Sweettormentt Hi!! Thanks for liking my theory! And to answer your question I actually really like the whole mirror theory to make it look like there are two rooms for both Martha and Guilia! Especially since mirrors/reflection do seem to hold a big impact at symbolizing Martha’s DID through the game(Her 3rd journal page, the way Gulia’s picture she’d taken for Martha’s picture frame is shown to never be there when she wakes up in a later chapter). It actually made me realize something really interesting about the whole room situation as well! I just noticed that both Martha and Guilia’s rooms each have their own separate color schemes- Martha having blue and Guilia having red. Guilia having the red scheme is interesting to me bc throughout the game the color red has always been associated for when death was nearby(the red poppies shown when you cut off Martha’s face in the dream, Irene’s dress, the red room, etc) An interesting way at showing how Guilia’s part of the room was probably never real to begin with.

I think the sparrow was another way to tell us about main character's DID.
    1. In the childhood flashback Giulia says that the nickname Nanny gave her was Sparrow.
    2. When she starts investigating her sister's death and takes her father's camera the first task we're given is to take a photo of a sparrow. At first I thought that it was only there to teach the player some of the game mechanics, but it actually played a much bigger role later.
    3. The third time the sparrow appears it gets attacked by a crow. Giulia finds the dead bird on her way to Martha's body and decides to bury it with her sister once again recalling how Nanny would call her. This time it creates an obvious link between Giulia and this sparrow.
    4. When Giulia cuts Martha's stomach open and takes out the embryo, it's not actually a single organism but cojoined twins with one body and two heads (two minds in one body if you want to interpret it that way). She then places the embryo on Martha's chest just like she did with the sparrow before. So the conclusion is: Giulia = the Sparrow = the Embryo with two heads → Giulia has two "minds" in her body.
If all her interactions with Martha's body were just illusions created by her damaged mind, it might be that her subconscious just tried to tell her the truth about herself.

Something that Sony censored which was actually very important to the plot contextual wise was that the narrator wasn’t just harming herself by cutting, but by obsessively pleasuring herself until she would begin to bleed.
In my opinion I believe that may be why she woke up with so much blood between her legs on that one day. Another theory is that the blood shown was a miscarriage, however I really think that the inclusion of this very important fact regarding how she would uniquely self harm herself was the cause of the blood. I would have imagined that if it was a miscarriage we could have seen more context clues for it.

Yes!!! So glad someone else linked those facts together too!! It could've been a miscarriage but given how incessantly she was abusing herself that way in the asylum then it's very likely that is what was happening before she went there. That act is very much a symptom of abuse. As a survivor myself, I also was doing that without understanding it (too young)... never to the point of bleeding but nonetheless, I'm glad that they were brave enough to include that in the end story because it does indeed happen in real life.

I am no doctor/psychiatrist so I'm not sure about the deeper details of this.

A lot of mothers, actually. Fathers too, believe it or not. "Baby blues" are fairly common for the first two weeks of pregnancy, but I think what you're referring to is postpartum depression, which is more severe and lasts longer.
Sadly, there's a lot of stigma around it, which can make many avoid treatment out of shame, even in the modern day. In some cases, it can lead to abusive behavior, especially if left untreated. Although I cannot stress enough that having postpartum depression does not automatically make anyone a bad parent or that it will make them abuse their children.
At the time the game takes place, some women could be put into an asylum for it. Which may explain why Irene was sent there. Although it could also be that Irene already suffered from mental illness, since postpartum depression typically only lasts within the first year (though supposedly it can last up to 3 years), and judging by the puppet show, it seemed her daughter suffered abuse all the way into her childhood.
Not a psychiatrist/therapist either, so I may be missing some things. Just someone who's known people who've gone through it and likes to be informative where I can.

Anyway, we need to continue to end the stigma of mental health. It's not impossible for hosts to go back front after being protected by an alter. Giulia is in the front the first part of the game, and keeps switching with Martha, but it would be very interesting trying to figure out when she's Martha and when she's Giulia. For example, I think that Giulia was impersonating Martha from the begining and not the other way around. Martha wanted to finally get rid of Giulia, as she knew her mother wasn't a bad mother anymore, but Giulia kept showing up, as Martha didn't "remember", Giulia would come back everytime to show how her mother was still the one that abused the child. And when they kill the mother, it's actually Giulia talking in the recording, that's not Martha, Martha loves her mother as she's the host and doesn't remember, Giulia would hate her and want to kill her. And I believe Giulia was trying to harm the body, and really kill herself, kill Martha, because of all the guilt she had for getting the body pregnant, as thinking that the mother would do what she thought she did (killing Martha on the lake), but it probably was nothing but a delusion by Giulia, as we could see how her Mother would run for Martha. She didn't like Giulia because Giulia would despise her too.

Since Guilia otherwise never showed aggression really and just took the abuse, but the white lady was a legend told to her as a child, most likely when she would have developed DID, and though alters aren’t necessarily dangerous, the white lady could be seen as someone who could stand up to her mother and potentially protect her, or at the very least be stronger than the young personalities of Martha or Giulia.

Just completed the game, and once I saw in the puppet theater that only one baby was born and her name was Martha, most of the pieces came together. The awful way Martha was abused by her mother, and how she had to create Giulia, developing a split personality, so there will be someone stronger to protect her. The medallion was another huge clue that only Martha really existed.
My heart was absolutely shattered, learning about Martha's sad story, I was crying inside to learn how cruel life was to that poor girl. In addition to the abusive violent treatment from the mother, loosing a baby and her nanny, all that violence she suffered from both sides of the war.
At the end I thought that she died, but I'm glad to have learn by watching your video that she didn't.

I feel this game would've been stronger if they just kept her replacing her sister and kept it a ghost story with psychological elements playing on her guilt and loss of her sister. I for one hate how the media constantly and consistently portrays people who suffer from a real life disorder like DID like they’re dormant monsters ready to kill. I love a good ghost story and this could've been one of them! I feel racking everything up to her having DID erases and tears down the complexity story we see. Too many creators don’t know too much about DID and I wish more would be considerate of, though small, a very marginalized vunerable community. I don't think the creators are remotely bad people, but I hope more writers will be conscious of how they present disorders like this.

The entire point of the story is that you don’t know what actually happened. Martha/ Giullia is an unreliable narrator and it’s up to you to decide based on context clues and the information that we’re given what the truth is. It’s very evident that Martha may just be a mentally disturbed person who making up an entire fabrication of events. Or maybe she does have DID. It’s not set in stone so you can’t be made at the creators of the game hinting at it as a possibility when they hint at like 50 other possibilities for what happened. So the inconsistencies serve as doubt to her authenticity. I know is frustrating not knowing what actually happened but that’s the beauty of psychological horror is that it makes you question if your own presumptions or what you call the truth.

I have a very different theory on this game. The devs previous game, The Town of Light, was updated with a few notes refering to Martha AND Gulia, and Marthas dead. Also, they talk about Marthas mother who says that she made her sister silent.
So this tells us that Martha actually existed and actually died. My theory is, that Martha really died, and Giulia killed her, maybe out of jealousy, which, combined with the abuse of her mother in her childhood, caused her schizophrenia to break out. To handle what she has done to her sister, she first imagines in her psychotic state, that her mother must have killed her, and when Martha killed her mother, it worsens her state so that she tells herself that Martha did not even exist, so that she couldn't have killed her.

The bloody bed scene could be one of the early clues on how she’s already been in the mental hospital a while and that a lot of these memories are fabricated based on what she heard on the radio and are now getting mixed with the reality she’s living in. The miscarriage interpretation probably makes more sense given all the other pregnancy talk throughout the game, just an interesting alternative way to look at it.

I'm a true crime junkie & I dabble in creative writing. I am pretty proud of myself for calling the plot during the Demo. Whenever Death said her and Martha had out maneuvered both Death and Fate, I knew that it had to be a "split personality" situation. I had thought maybe they'd go supernatural with it, making it a manifestation of the twin sister she always wanted and be dealing with the "spirit" of the sister who didn't exist, but this was definitely a great story. The human mind is incredible and will do so much to protect itself from the world around us. Whether that's suppressing memories, compartmentalizing the thoughts and feelings associated with trauma, or having to essentially fracture and create a personality that shields the person from the trauma that was inflicted. Is it common for people with this kind of condition to only create 1 or are the cases I've seen where it can almost be created each time they experience more trauma that varies from what the 1st personality was created from.

People with DID typically have more than one alter and there are expansive ways in which a system may or may not be able to communicate with one another. I personally think that neither martha or gulia killed their mother, and if this is truly about a girl with DID, but a seperate alter that even gulia didnt know about. Clearly she was undiagnosed, or at least gulia was unaware of a diagnosis, and so i think its possible she would have had no idea if there was anyone else. I think because of the blackouts and memory lapses after Marthas death, this leads to the idea that there was another alter that we as viewers do not get to see since we are only getting one perspective for the story. I also think it is possible that the martha/gulia we see at the end is a fused martha and gulia, where neither alter in the way they were presented to us is still alive, yet they have access to similar combined memories of both people. Its also possible that if each sister died, then a new or separate alter received ownership of their respective memories, but I'm not sure, the game does a great job at making the player question reality. I also know that this is a fictional representation of a real disorder and that is very serious not to mix up the actions in the game with real ones or to project said actions as fears. DID is a serious condition created by trauma and that is not something to be taken lightly.

I'm not sure if I'm missing something but the amount of hidden meaning being that Gulia are one in the same (Gulia only seeming to have one bedroom when she was young, only one child being born as Martha) seem to be contradicted by the entire funeral process entirely as a vast number of characters send letters of condolences as well as various newspaper articles about Martha's death and an attempt on Gulia's life.

Maybe so, but as an abuse survivor, I can tell you that the twist was realistic for the situation. It wasn't done just for the sake of it. Dissociative Identity Disorder is a very real condition. It's a shame that people might think it's a "tired" plot twist to use but it's used here to raise awareness of what people actually go through in real life.

This game is perfect in almost every aspect except for one. It´s portraying person with D.I.D. as dangerous to others which IRL is not very likely. My girlfriend has D.I.D. as result of her childhood pedophile and violence trauma. People with D.I.D. are not likely to be violent more than a average person. Of course Giulia murdering her mother can be discussed, cause it could all happen only in her imagination as herself admits. Other than that, game do great service spreading much needed awareness about D.I.D. and offering unique experience.

    • @darrenchiam2472
      @darrenchiam2472 2 роки тому +24

The reason why Giulia would murder her mother is not unique to D.I.D, it's just that there are two personalities that is unique. It's basically similar to two siblings being abused and one of them taking the responsibility and guilt to prevent further abuse by eliminating the source, then hiding it from their other sibling. So I would disagree on this game portraying D.I.D as being dangerous, I think it tells people that abusing someone just because they seem different is wrong and will bring karma.
Of course this is based on the idea that what Giulia did hear is real.
I do agree that in the case there is truly no supernatural in this game, then it does portray the opposite, but considering D.I.D tends to appear due to abuse rather than natural causes, I still think Giulia acting the way she did is reasonable.

@@darrenchiam2472 You are right. Just I don´t think it was Giulia who killed Irene. It just doesn´t go along with her personality. And also she has no memory of killing her. So there is probably and likely another alter that took over. Or she is suffering from another mental disorder which would not be uncommon due to trauma she went through.
Also it´s still a game and it needs to be sold and gain new fans, so there kinda had to be some murder for the content. I played The town of light, which was great but probably didn´t performed as good from sales point of view. Martha is dead is certainly step forward to attract wider audience. I love that developers are doing their thing, being unique and spreading awareness to important topics while most of the other games today are soulless. Even the indie titles. And hope Martha is dead perform well enough so we can expect more titles from them from the same universe (Town of Light contains notes about Irene and even Giulia).
For people who didn´t played The town of light:
According to note found in asylum, Irene was hospitalized 26yo in Volterra asylum after the dog cooking incident. While most pacients were treated poorly due to low standards and overcrowding of asylum, Irene was treated well because of huge donation from her family even getting her own room. When she was hospitalized she stated:
"She wanted to take us away, that damned kid, wanted to kill us, shes a devil I tell you, she is the devil herself. She destroyed my ability to give life, she left her sister in silence, silence is scary."

That night *"Gulia"* probably having fed up with this and wanting to live and not rely on Martha and her body took over and created a new reality which Martha and she are twin sisters until the very end when that reality is destroyed. She tried to take over by killing Martha so she can finally live only for Martha, the real identinty, to return and take full control of the body again, asking what had happened and then killing *"Gulia".* In *"Gulia's"* mind Martha is in fact dead...at least that's how I understand it...wow...

Lastly my thoughts are that the story probably ended when her mother said she was going to put her in a mental Asylum. Meaning all the stuff after she said I think was in her mind cuz they did say she would get free and hurt herself. So in her mind she killed her mother. in her mind her dad got killed and she got tortured by troops. My explanation for the cameras and finding out her city was bombed is I feel like they would probably film her anyway because she's a general's daughter going into a mental Asylum. And the idea that her City got bomb is probably just from watching the news.
