There are a Lot of questions that are going to be asked in this section. So Ill try to preemptively answer some now. 1) What is an IPVO? I just did a video explaining my reason for anyone that wants to have more information on it. ua-cam.com/video/XHmgDCzBN94/v-deo.html 2) Why didnt you talk about Elevation turret height? This is one of those things that skipped my mind. Some of these scopes have lower profile turrets, while others have higher. Is that a problem? It can be if your planning to run a offset red dot in the 12* position. With a taller turret you might not be able to see past it. 3) Will we ever get a follow up, or additional video to this one show casing more scopes of similar magnification? Yes, If I can get my hands on enough to make it worth while. 4) Will you make a MPVO comparison similar to this one? Yes. That will be a project for the early spring. 5) I have a SPR (Special Purpose Rifle) Or Short, Or semiauto, or whatever. And I am looking for a scope for that. Do you plan on making a comparison of the better offerings for my needs? Yes. I think that would make for a fun video, and would mix together many different magnification ranges and budgets. I think it would be a great video for someone looking for that 'Do all optic' 6) Can you make a shorter version of this that is easier to digest? I could try, and if I ever have a moment where I dont have anything else going on, maybe. 7) Where Can I buy these? I have affiliate links in the description of the video. Check there for anything that you are interested in. I will also have them posted on my PAtreon and Subscribstar pages.
I thought this video was going to have the other Vector you were raving about? Wouldn't it fall under this category not as an MVPO? (2.5-whatever) Or maybe I missed it looking at section titles.
Can I add a question? For those of us who already trust your opinion, don’t have time to watch the full video due to having a family etc. how does my nx8 2.5-20 stack up in the mix? My confirmation bias is dying to know. Bought this sucker 2 years ago and I love it but it has its draw backs. I wanna know how my money fared. Is it near top of pack or did I crap the bed? Edit* it’s on a 14.5” block 2 recce build. When I get an LMT mars H in 308 one day, my dream rifle. It would go on that. But I’m poor and that’s a ways out
@@T20-c8f The NX8 is only flawed in the lower magnification for having too fine of a reticle. NF could fix this easily by bringing in the DMx reticle, but they wont. Its definitely heavier and larger than most. But its optical performance and enjoyment is top tier. Its tracking has been spot on. The only single physical flaw would be a non locking elevation turret, but given that its more of a hybrid scope, from tactical, to longer range, its not the end of the world. The One thing I think it really needs is a better sorted reticle suite. Other than that its fantastic.
@ Man, I’d really like to see a review on some Schmidt optics, particularly the PM line. There isnt much out there on them, and most reviews are lacking the acute attention to detail I’m looking for. Hoping to get either a 3-12x50 (if I can source one), or a 5-20x50 supershort.
I have never looked forward to any video from any creator as much as I have this one. It’s gonna be a banger and I’ll watch this full three hours. Let’s get it.
C_DOES, you’re a legend. Christmas came early! This video is one of a kind on UA-cam. The “IPVO” lineup of scopes are regularly seen as the redheaded stepchild of scopes that are always overlooked. I personally love them and they are perfect (2-10, 2-12, 2.5-15) for SBR length short action (.308, 6.5CM, etc.) AR-10’s.
HO HO HO.... Now I have Optic comparison. If I had to choose one magnification range for a 'do absolutely everything rifle' it would be something in this segment.
This type of video comparison is the most helpful being that one person compares all of the optics and c_does has a great way of explaining everything in simple easy to understand language. Definitely the best optic reviewer for the type of shooting I am interested in.
Thank you for making this video. You put a tremendous amount of effort into this. It will show others why this type of scope is so versatile! I will say, I think your bias against the H6xi was very evident. In the reticle testing you called it the worst performer even though the percentage it was off was 1.5% which was very comparable to almost every other tracking test (including the Mark 4HD which you’re partial towards). I suspect your bias against it might be because how many people and viewers are interested in it and you’re trying to steer them away. Just some observations from a longtime fan!
I'm disappointed in the H6Xi because I know how much better it could be if Steiner gave it a proper reticle for the magnification range. It's something Steiner has always done, and I hope that one day it will end.
Wow the time you have put into this just shows your love of scopes. Thank you so much for your effort. You have helped me with your reviews more than anyone else. Hope you and all those you hold dear have a great and happy Christmas and new year.
I talked about it early on. It never really excited me, being too heavy and having non locking turrets. Its probably excellent glass wise. But that isnt enough to compete here.
One of your best videos and they’re all great. Appreciate you. And I agree with your sentiment regarding the mark 4hd. Something about it makes it very pleasant to get behind.
Man of the people, this is so much effort putting all this together. Thanks C. BTW..what in the world are those little segue bumpers you play between sections? From an old PC game? The classic sound itches a nostalgia ridden brain cell of mine so hard but i have no idea what it is lol.
Thank you for all the work you put into this video. You’re saving folks a ton of wasted time & money by providing honest and high quality reviews! I picked up a MK4HD in SFP in November at the gov discount and it is a PHENOMENAL scope for the money. I really believe SFP is the superior choice for this optic with a max zoom of only 10X and a reticle that is designed for quick shooting and dialing, the reticle is the perfect thickness all the time (thinner than the FFP 10X but not too thin where it gets lost in complex backgrounds) with 0 degree cant, I’m getting 14.5mils of up travel zeroed on an AR10 in and ADM Delta C mount. I couldn’t ask for anything more. I was apprehensive about the lack of parallax initially but it’s proven to be a non issue at any practical range. The reticle & illumination are extremely stable and could be shot from nearly any awkward position at any magnification with no hesitation. Thanks again!
I bought the Athlon Helos 2-12 BTR G2 about a year ago. One of my favorite SPR scopes hands-down. Your points and thoughts in this video reflect my own. It's a great do-all optic (in a sensible range).
I watched it all. This video took so much time and we all greatly appreciate it. I’m team athlon and what a disappointment it would have been if I did get the Steiner.
After watching this just makes me even more impressed with what Athlon was able to pull off. Great glass, great depth of field, locking turrets, fantastic Reticle, very little chromatic abberation, not super heavy, fairly compact, parallax that goes from 10 yards to infinity, and it's under 500 bucks. They really knocked it out of the park. If they ever do a Gen 3 I just hope they make the turrets a little shorter so a 12 o'clock mounted rds clears completely, and make the ranging tree at the bottom more suitable for man size targets instead of deer. I've said it before but I was shooting around 700 yards with it side by side with the Vortex strike eagle 5-25 when the sun was low near the horizon and I couldn't easily make out any targets past 500 with the strike eagle due to the glare, but I could see well past 1000 with the Athlon. Whatever coatings they use are stellar.
I LOVE my Helos BTR. I'm in almost the same boat - my SPR has the Athlon, my AR10 has a 5-25 Viper PST Gen II. I can genuinely make out things better at 500+ with the Athlon than the Vortex with twice the magnification. Very impressed with it.
Would love to see you start doing a standardized drop test onto padding to check zero retention. I say this once every few months, and I doubt you’ll do it but it’s worth it in case one day you do. This is vital for scopes and no one seems to care, the bullet going where the reticle claims is literally the main point of a scope and the industry needs to be pushed towards durability, they have done incredible work in tracking, mag range and glass quality in the last decade.
@@J_Un1t I have been thinking of a standard way of doing it for awhile now. The problem becomes I get a lot of borrowed scopes and companies don't like you staying their stuff when they send it in for testing.
Thanks for putting in the time to make this video. You save potential buyers from so many possible headaches and answer so many questions left open by the manufacturers and their shills. Looks like the vector is the one I’m most interested in, but the march is interesting too. The flaws it has in addition to the price tag are trying to be deal breakers, but it still has a few things going for it. I saw on Vectors website that they had a 2-15 iirc. If they make it with a good ffp reticle that might be something to look into. The maven 2-15 also has my eye.
The march isn't for everyone. It's for those who want to run it like an LPVO, but are willing to give up the 1x to get more magnification than a 10x. If you just want to look at birds in HD display 500 yards away, you are better with something that isn't a 10x multiplier with a size and weight less than some LPVOs like an atacr 4-16.
Great video man, lot of info to chew on. I think every option has some aspect someone can nitpick about it. For instance I like the athlon but the caps are huge and kinda hard to run a piggyback dot without a big riser. I really like the vector but wish it was a little easier to see at lower magnification. Might have to pick one up and try it to see if it’s a dealbreaker
I was hoping the H6xi would perform better. Im glad i got mine for 800 at an industry price instead of 1300. Also glad I opted for a 10 MOA scope mount. The reticle seems ok to me but I think your criticism was very valid.
@@joshb5719 much obliged. For $800 it changes the dynamic of that scope a lot. Understand it's short comings and if your ok with that, then for $800 it's a good purchase.
Question: Did you find that Trijicon makes pewing with both eyes open very easy? I own several optics, Vortex & Trijicon being my favorites, but when I get behind my Trijicon's pewing both eyes open (even though I'm cross eyed dominant) is very easy. It's the only optic I've experienced that with.
Not really surprised the march landed where it did and I think you summed it up nicely (when compared to other low powered MPVOs or IPVOs). You really must want what a LPVO and MPVO have to offer (low min mag like a 1x/1.5x and high max mag like a 15x/16x) in a size and weight that rivals LPVOs (or even beats like the credo 1-8). A short, light, 10x zoom, and dual focal plane, you are just bound to give up in a lot of areas. I definitely wouldn't pick the march over other 15/16x scopes if I wanted an image worthy of the price tag. And I definitely wouldn't pick the march over other 1x-1.5x if I wanted the best 1x experience. But to get a blend of both as good as this does, it's your only option and it's hard to complain about it when I look at what it brings to the table for those who want what this brings.
Hey can’t thank you enough for this knowledge! I’m not anywhere close to buying an optic and am still shopping around. I just had a question in the mean time: would a price point of $1440 be good for the non illum Mark 5HD TMR?
38:52 I will actually disagree with your opinion on this My problem with one MOA at 100 yd is that 60800 and why haven't IMPVO or is I just call them MPVO they can't actually provide precise shooting having said that Target identification is perfect but you could just carry a spotter scope or monocular so I definitely have different radical opinions
What are your thoughts on the GLX 3-18 x44 using the Athena reticle rather than the one found in the glx of this video? Worth the price on a 6.5 Prc bolt or nah?
My March gen2 1-10 stomps on my ATACR 1-8 in every category but eyebox. Same result comparing the March with my plxc, stomps it in every category but visible scope body. Just gotta dial in eye piece and parallax.
If you would let me know your thoughts on the new scope when it arrives I would appreciate it. I am trying to find a prairie dog scope for my 204 Ruger. Thank you.
@@greggschachterleppc2769 Just got it. From just looking through the scope, unmounted, I like it. I have a Shepherd FFP, and a Nikon SFP. I've found that the FFP reticle only benefits me when I'm out beyond 100 yards. If I'm shooting beyond 100 yards, i'm going to have it at max zoom, so the reticle setting arent' going to benefit me except at full magnification anyway. I've also found that the cross hairs are easier to see with SFP. Glass looks clear. Adjustments are smooth. Locking turrets. Zero Lock. I'm very happy with the scope. It's going to replace my Nikon M-Tactical 3-12 on my AR15.
@@joestriker2100 I appreciate the response. I have a Nikon on my 17 HMR that works really well. What do you plan to do with the Nikon that you are replacing? Do you see where this is going?
@@greggschachterleppc2769 haha...yes I do. Letting a friend "borrow" it until he has the cash to get a new scope. But that Nikon M-Tactical is a sweet scope. Too bad they stopped making scopes. When he's done borrowing it, I'm still going to keep it in the wings for any future rifles or as a spare.
@ Bummer, but I understand! I wonder if they made that scope in a higher magnification like 18 or 24 for Prairie dog getting. I will have to check around. Do you know if the crosshairs are 1/8? Thank you.
I do hope one day you can get behind a schmidt and bender scope and give it a go in your review style. Same goes for more zeiss scopes, I enjoy xring and he likes them but I trust like your reviews a lot
@c_does have you had any experience with the leupold mk4hd 4.5-18x52? Have you tried any of the new Sightron models? Namely, the S6 and S3 PLR?
Not really surprised the march landed where it did and I think you summed it up nicely (when compared to other low powered MPVOs or IPVOs). You really must want what a LPVO and MPVO have to offer (low min mag like a 1x/1.5x and high max mag like a 15x/16x) in a size and weight that rivals LPVOs (or even beats like the credo 1-8).

And I definitely wouldn't pick the march over other 1x-1.5x if I wanted the best 1x experience. What does it all mean, man?
Hey can’t thank you enough for this knowledge! I’m not anywhere close to buying an optic and am still shopping around. I just had a question in the mean time: would a price point of $1440 be good for the non illum Mark 5HD TMR?
Thank you! 😲❤
GOAT youtuber!
What scopes are there in this magnification range with capped turrets and a christmas tree type reticle?
What are your thoughts on the GLX 3-18 x44 using the Athena reticle rather than the one found in the glx of this video? Worth the price on a 6.5 Prc bolt or nah?
Mega MPVO review on the way! Can’t wait
Still no NF NXS 2.5-10x42....do I need to send you mine?
Excellent video. March has been exposed. Gets smoked by the PA NOVA 1-6
My March gen2 1-10 stomps on my ATACR 1-8 in every category but eyebox. Same result comparing the March with my plxc, stomps it in every category but visible scope body. Just gotta dial in eye piece and parallax.
Just ordered a GPO Centuri 2.5-15x42. Supposed to have excellent glass. We will see. All their other products seem to get good reviews.
@@joestriker2100
I appreciate the response.
Does anyone know when the vector is coming out?
Thanks. Probably going to pick up the NX8 4-32x for one .308 DMR rifle and the Athalon BTR for another 5.56 SPR type rifle.
Iv got a 32x nx8 with moa reticle ffp im about to sell on eBay.
@alonzokincaid1362 any issues with the scope that you didn't like?
@ no i just got a great deal on a schmitt & bender. Just trying to offset cost.
Any way you could tell me the on the vector I hope it’s lightweight like their lobos but I know their continental 34mm line is heavier
I'm confused I searched for the vector 2-12 and saw a 44 objective and a 50mm objective which one was in this comparison??
Never stop with the Half-Life samples.
I need to get that NX8...
no you don't, they are dogshit
I can't think of the Warhawk as any other name than Warchicken
@c_does have you had any experience with the leupold mk4hd 4.5-18x52? I know it’s a MPVO and doesn’t fit in this video, but I’m trying to decide between that and the athelon helos 4-20x50 which I have watched your videos on. Anyone else feel free to chime in, for reference I would be getting the mk4hd through the bio program, so about $800
Wish t6xi 2.5-15 was included
Gonna go ahead and guess the PA GLX 2.5 - 10 is gonna be the best overall.
Jim's head is exploding right now.
Primary Arms GLx 2.5-10x44 no longer available on Optics Plnt
Don't think PA is making them anymore. They had an open box one for $450 around the 10th of December which I picked up.
You need to get your hands on an NXS 2.5-10
Why why why does Steiner not sell the H6 in Europe???
MOA reticle for the H6XI is money. I am a MIL guy but I’m glad I skipped the mil tree that is too fine for the h6xi.
Yeah, Project Appleseed!
thx
Seems like most of the industry already calls these MPVO’s Leupold even call the new mark 5 2-10 a Mid powered optic.
Wake up babe.. nee CDoes video essay just dropped
Bruiser is coming for you
