Such great reading and commentary. These 30 minutes simply flew by.

I love this commentary, when I read this decades ago I only enjoyed it for the simplicity of the writing BUT, also sensed that the dark nature of the end of the story had a very important point. Thanks Doug, great interpretive reading,, in the context of post WW1 lost generation writing this is a gem.

Sensing the dark is probably the key skill in any artistic appreciation. Great art always implies a subcutaneous site of meaning . We all have to work to keep our antennae properly tuned.

This guy should read "The Moveable Feast." In it, Hem makes fun of a critic who overuses the word great. Great writing. It's great. Great, great, great.

A Moveable Feast is a good book, but mostly for cheap reasons. It's fun for the Lost Generation lifestyle. It offers up some less than flattering portraits of Fitzgerald and others, but the anecdotes tend to tell us less about those figures than they do about an aging Hemingway settling scores and old insecurities. The short stories are great art; some of the novels edge into that category; most of the non-fiction is best ignored.

@@douglasparker6276 Yes, I was joking a little fun at you because you were saying great a few time; I immediate thought of it. My other favorite part in the book is when he tells the story of going to Gertrude Stein's house, and no one was around, and he could start to hear Gertrude and her girlfriend. The way he wrote it was just hysterical.

I liked your comments but the birds in the background are mind numbing and distracting to the conversation.

Sorry. As many writers including Hemingway have noted, Nature cannot be contained.

@@douglasparker6276 I enjoyed the birds in the background, truly. I was riding my skateboard listening to your interpretation of his work and the birds in the video sounded like they were flying near me. It was beautiful. I love your voice as well sir. Great video!
