Dude, I'm not familiar with your channel, but this was exactly what I wanted: A guide to help me start playing Street Fighter V. You see, I'm from the MK series, but I really wanted to play Street Fighter. I know i'm a little bit late, but I still want to enjoy the game. Thx for helping me out
Alexx196 Z Yeah me too , I’ve never played a fighting game tbh. I have only mastered the first person shooter. I picked Street Fighter as a fuck around game thinking it’s just easy to win rounds with random button mashing. I died around 15 times even when I thought I was going to kick my opponents ass , I am on the brink of rage quitting because I wanted this to be a quick easy game that isn’t too challenging. I didn’t know that it would be complex af like that. It’s fun regardless but sucks when you loose.
@DewGetRekt I've been playing shooters since '98... Street Fighter and practically every other fighter is far more complex and has more depth than every shooter I've ever played with the exception of the Quake franchise which is basically a fighter in shooter form.
Dude! You're the first "Beginners' Guide" that i found that is TRULY aimed at beginners. Plus you're an amazing teacher that eases in more complex stuff slowly and clearly... Usually, those kind of videos are mostly like: "To play Ryu, it's super easy, you just need, to super EX dash cancel into Shoryuken and combo from double EX V-Trigger critical art crouch cancel to Forword dash forward Shinku Hadouken"... To which i respond.... "huh... Qu'est-ce que c'est?!?!?" :O
This 30 minute video has taught me WAY more than half of the beginner videos on UA-cam! I bought this game last week and found this EXTREMELY helpful as I am painfully new! I love the way this game plays and its not confusing like MvC3 or DBFZ. I think having 1 character is better than having 3 with assists and tag ins. Thank you SO SO much for this vid Goo! You rock. Subbed! 🙏
While I'm not a beginner, I still want to give this a watch to see if I can either show it to other people, or if they can't watch it for whatever reason, to pass on the knowledge the way the teacher puts it.
Can't express how much this whole video made sense to me. I walked away feeling like I finally have a general understanding of how the game works on a basic level. I was trying to find other beginner videos but they didn't really explain it how you did for someone who's a novice. I put some time into SF4 almost 10 years ago but I pretty much forgot most of what I learned and was trying to find something to get me ready for when 6 comes out
wow for years i have been trying to get into street fighter but now i am commited to getting good and i have sat in training room for about 2 hours and still having gotten the hadouken consistent but I am going to play until I get it
Said it before...but...Gooteks really has a gift in teaching Street Fighter. It really shows how much love for the game he delivers in his teaching, and opens this game for newcomers....because...he really cares.
Gootecks, you are a brilliant author. You really need to start making paperback or hardback copies of the street fighter guide! The techniques i've learnt from the electronic version works like a charm. I am sure they will sell well in the UK like hot cakes!
The exercise of intentionally pressing the punch too late on the fireball really helped me avoid pressing it too early, just like you said. Thanks Gootecks!
This is what i need. Reddit is awesome but not for beginners. But this kind of content is MANDATORY to not miss steps during the learning process. Thank you dood. One more subscriber.
I had to take like a year or so break from fighting games and I'm glad I came back and you're doing tutorials for the new games. I still remember you hanging out in our room at final round the year that Street Fighter 4 came out and you and Mike were hanging together. Had a blast hanging out with you guys. I remember one of you having one of those little dedicated video recorders that's pretty much what a smartphone is now LOL. But I remember your Street Fighter 3 players the Street Fighter 4 guide and you did a good job with that so it's nice to see you doing the same thing with this one
I have some friends who play other games who just can't get into SF because it used to not flow as much as other games. SFV is way smoother and hopefully they give it a shot. Will give them this video for sure to get then started
grandCurator I've tried to do this a lot and a lot of people get sick of playing at quick because pretty much any other game you can be competitive and beat the game after you play it for like a day and a half or even 5 or 6 days good enough to hang orbit the game. That's not the case with this game and if they made it that way it would be hard not alienate all the people that love playing at competitively. It's hard to make something in the middle but I think they've done a pretty good job here. It's just that a lot of people that play just whatever is the best seller want to be challenged a little bit but if they get challenged too much like it takes them more than a day to figure out a combo then it's just ridiculous and they give up
I just started playing street fighter a few days ago...brand new to the series but I've alwayssss wanted to play. Dont apologize for this video.....it helped alot.
I just got sf5 and a fight stick to play with friends and have never touched a fighting game for more than 5 minutes. this is so useful since I was trying to just charge headfirst and "get good". there is so much on this video alone I probably would of never picked up.
I've been playing Street Fighter for years with a controller, and I feel like I'm starting over completely now that I'm using a stick. Its a little discouraging but I'm determined to master the stick.
It's like i was sleeping during 3 or 4 months ... But i wanna say thank you Gootecks to put your knowledge in your videos. Really helpfull one. I'm not a true beginner but I think I was not training the good way to rank up in SFV. Now I'm comming ;) French fan here !
holy SHIT, this helps so much. I've only ever played smash but wanna get into SFV, so this is a GODSEND. You are a great teacher, and I'm def gonna watch this whole series
To the ones that are trying the MP > c.MP > Fireball, Negative Edge should help. Hold the MP press from c.MP, do the motion and release the button. The fireball comes out.
While this video isn't specifically for me. I love that you're making a tutorial that's easily digestible. I tried to get into Tekken 6 years back and none of it was easy to comprehend. You've done a great job presenting this in a way that's easy to understand. Though I did notice you kind of glazed over what the Axe Kick and Hurricane kick were used for.
Thanks :D I've played the whole saga but never went into it with a competitive perspective. SFV will be my first serious and this guide is already helping :)
Thank you for doing this! I loved watching Street Fighter 4 streams and events and now that SFV is out I am excited to actually start playing fighting games. I'm going to need all the help I can get, so I really appreciate content like this. Keep up the great work!
Great, very comprehensive video. Haven't played sf since I was a kid in the early nineties arcades during the summers. I just got an arcade stick for my birthday and immediately I thought sf. Great to get back into it specially seeing the pov of the way you grab the stick and how you use it. Thanks so much for the tips. Now off to defense!
Excellent video, Gootecks! Thanks so much for making SFV easier for me to understand and begin playing (for real, not just spamming specials). The game makes more sense now and I feel that I'm finally starting to understand SFV after a couple frustrating days of trying to learn everything through looking at the combo inputs screen. I'll have to invest in a fightstick when more become available.
Awesome! I am beginner ! My friend envited me to play this weekend! He kicked my ass off hehehe of course! He plays it for a long time now! This tutorial helps a lot! Cheers!
Really interested in this game and you broke it down very well mechanically. I think that fighting games are some of the most intimidating games out there and it is nice to see someone make a video for those of us who may not be innate dueling machines! Great stuff!
Very informative. I play Fighting games like MK and GG at Intermediate level and just got into SF 5. I know the basics and your video helps me learn more about them, as well as the transition into the SF series. Can't wait for more of your series.
I have watched a few videos of yours and I really like your explanations and teaching methods. I also took the time to read your Preparing for sf5 book on kindle unlimited. All I'm saying is: Thanks a lot for giving everyone your experience. Awesome guy, for real :)
Dr. Mike wood I feel like it’s too complex for a fighting game. Fighting games don’t hold much value in the first place in my heart since I care about the amount of content I get for my money. This game is another level of ridiculous for noobs. It’s impossible to win rounds against even other noobs. I am a master of first person shooter games but this fighting game genre is certainly getting on my nerves. Just wish they would keep things simple rather then making shit complicated, because the learning curve is stressfully stretched out if that’s the case making people abandon the game.
Right now my issue is jumping accidentally. Pressing diagonal up on the fight stick unintentionally either when trying to do special moves or tapping to dash in or back.
+Yu Narukami if that is the case try using the analog stick and only going from down to forward down, you will subconsciously move to the forward, just like you are subconsciously moving to forward up right now. If that doesnt work try using the D-pad on playstation
thanks :) I learned so much in the timing of the combos in the end part of your video by looking at your hand in the fightstick..now I know how to do combos..most videos on YT are not showing how they using there hand to the fightstick in the camera, its just legends like mp,qcf,etc..which is also good, but the timing is the most important part,.I hope you upload more videos regarding that..thanks again :)
Thanks so much man. I'm a complete beginner to fighting games (other than Smash Bros, which is fairly different of course). Your guides are extremely helpful.
My biggest frustration with tutorials is the people making them say to use Ryu but then none of them use Ryu in a match so we don't get to see the theory put into practice. IMO the best thing you can do to help out new people Gootecks is to have you and some of your guests use Ryu in high level play on your Excellent Adventures episodes. Here's the problem. EVERYONE says to learn the game to use Ryu yet NO ONE at high levels uses him. Trying to find decent mid to high level play with Ryu is practically impossible because of that. It would be nice to see people like you and Combofiend use this character so those who are learning can see some of the theory you are presenting put into action. It'll also be nice to see how to use Ryu to handle various real world situations (like when someone is applying a ton of pressure and you aren't sure which buttons to use to get out of it).
This is an awesome guide. Im not actually a SUPER beginner (Played tekken for over 10 yrs, sf about 2months maximum). I know a bunch about the game but im still at a dilemma at normals tho. When to throw them and when is it safe to throw it. Thanks for this man its awesome.
Thanks goo! even as someone whos been playing since SF2 in 3rd grade lol I found lots of fun interesting content here. Would love a Ken 101 advanced teq video :) tyvm keep it up
I'm new to SFV and I'm trying to hit the j. HK, st. MP, cr. HP xx LK Tatsu combo but I can't figure out the timing of linking the MP to the crouching HP. I've been trying it for the past 30 minutes in training mode but I can't seem to figure it out.
I’m thankful for this video man. I’m literally doing it while I’m watching. U should do a video when SF6 comes out man it would be awesome. U definitely got my support 😀
7:10 so if heavy kick has better range than heavy punch, why would you ever approach with heavy punch? I looked up the damage data on his jumping HP vs. HK and the data is nearly identical, only thing is that HP has 2 frames less of startup.
Cheers for the video. This is exactly what I was looking for - I'll admit I'm a total newcomer to post-SF2 Streetfighters and after I bought SFV I discovered that it assumes a bit too much of me: I'd no idea about any of the stuff like V Triggers, V Skills, EX moves... so I need something that drags it right back to proper basics, and this is excellent for that. The only thing I do have is Hadoken/Shoryuken/etc. muscle-memory from twenty plus years ago on my SNES(when I was...nine? Jesus.), which is useful of course, but everything since then has passed me by. I'm sure I'm not the only one in a similar position either. There are a few issues I've always faced with SF though and I was wondering if anyone else has the same issues, or has found a way around them...maybe someone can help? - Always found it much harder to pull of specials when facing left, simply because when I learnt them I did it facing right, in single-player SF2. A left-facing Hadoken/Shoryuken is much harder for me than a right-facing one. - Special moves like strong Hadoken, that involve pressing strong punch((L1), are much harder than any other specials: I think this is because the same hand is performing all of the inputs whereas if it's a medium Hadoken I'm using two hands(ie. the left-hand thumb for D-pad/stick, and the right hand thumb for medium punch) to perform inputs. The latter is, for me, much less difficult. In the past I used to map strong punch to the 'triangle button'(X on the SNES), map medium punch to 'L1'(L on the SNES), and just ignore medium punch altogether. Can't really do that on SFV. Anybody else had the same issues(and thought of a way around them preferably)? Besides all that I just wanted to say well done on a top video. Good stuff.
I was trying to do st.MK into cr.MK for a good minute until I went back and realized you misspoke, and it's actually st.MP into cr.MK. Damn you Gootecks. JK, great video! :)
It's an honor getting taught by the PogChamp himself.
🦇
Gootecks, you are a beautiful man with a beautiful soul. The noobs of the FGC thank you dearly.
+LinkedChief Put more succinctly than I ever could - I second that.
Same here because I'm about to get the game
Dude, I'm not familiar with your channel, but this was exactly what I wanted: A guide to help me start playing Street Fighter V. You see, I'm from the MK series, but I really wanted to play Street Fighter. I know i'm a little bit late, but I still want to enjoy the game. Thx for helping me out
I know I'm kinda late to the SFV party, but I just started and this helped me a lot. Thanks!
same brother just got my fighting stick yesterday never played fighting game before, these sundays evo got me hyped for real
You dont even know lol
I just started to play 2 days ago and I am getting my ass handed.. But hey, the answer lies in the heart of battle, right.
Alexx196 Z Yeah me too , I’ve never played a fighting game tbh. I have only mastered the first person shooter. Hari Vyas If you rage quit because you think button mashing is how you win, you should never have bought the game.
i regret buying the game to hard for me im just stick with soul calibur
No...
Its being broken
@DewGetRekt I've been playing shooters since '98... Street Fighter and practically every other fighter is far more complex and has more depth than every shooter I've ever played with the exception of the Quake franchise which is basically a fighter in shooter form.

Never played fighting games before. That is totally me. Thank you so much for this.
As someone who hasn't played SF since Third Strike in the arcade and is getting back into it, this is very helpful.
What a clean and calmy explained ropes to how the game works. Beautiful job. Coming from dbfz. Got sfv + championship for $30 off steam.
Played Melee for a while and started to get into SF5. This video was perfect for me and I've never play a street fighter game before. Thank you.
tfw Gootecks starts the video of staring into your soul
fr though lol
Gootecks looks through you.
I have some friends who play other games who just can't get into SF because it used to not flow as much as other games. SFV is way smoother and hopefully they give it a shot. Will give them this video for sure to get then started

Dr. Mike wood this
Who else here already knows the basics of 2D fighters but watched anyway?
I did and then end was super useful lol
yup gotta support my dude Godtechs
I'm feeling a need to go back to basics right now. Unlearning bad habits and such.
haha ikr!
well i need to because MKX is completely different to street fighter
I just started playing street fighter a few days ago...brand new to the series but I've alwayssss wanted to play. Dont apologize for this video.....it helped alot.

Good stuff Gootecks!
Many people try to do tutorials like this, but few are able to pull it off. You have a great gift for teaching!
holy SHIT, this helps so much. I've only ever played smash but wanna get into SFV, so this is a GODSEND. You are a great teacher, and I'm def gonna watch this whole series
Make that 3!
Make that 4

You are my JEFF GOLDBLOOM SFV PROFESSOR. I feel like I'm I Jurassic park! IT'S AMAZING. very well detailed and explained video.
Thanks :D
I've played the whole saga but never went into it with a competitive perspective.
Great video Gootecks. Can't wait to see more of these.
GOOOTECKS! Thnx from a melee player who is getting back into SF!
Great refresher @gootecks thanks for the upload
Excellent video, Gootecks! Thanks so much for making SFV easier for me to understand and begin playing (for real, not just spamming specials). This video was a life saver. Great intro to the meta around street fighter for us noobs.
Came for the v trigger tutorial, stayed because i love everything!
I really suck at SFV so I'm going to watch this full series, thanks so much Gootecks!
Awesome video. Started out as a melee player and now branching out to games like SFV and GGxrd, this helped a lot.
Thank god for this series and this channel, it's been helping IMMENSELY... thank you!
I love how gootecks is till taking the opportunity to practice his plinking in a 101 tutorial video.
You speak so good. I'm brazzilian. Just spark a blunt and listen you. Nice, Gootecks.
My first fighting game was MkX i got into them like 3 months ago now i have a nice Mad Catz and getting sf5 im hooked
"street fighter v 101" - still complicated as hell
Eric Hui honestly that's part of the fun is digging into the game and figuring out all of the subtle things with matchups
Hari Vyas If it is too easy it isn't worth learning imo
Right now my issue is jumping accidentally. Pressing diagonal up on the fight stick unintentionally either when trying to do special moves or tapping to dash in or back.
I didn't know you played sfv thought it was all persona
Man, when i jump accidentally it makes wanna bash my head against a wall.
Happened kind of a lot with me in SF 4 too. This game requires very precise controls, just keep refining your execution.
you should go back to pad if problem continues
+Yu Narukami if that is the case try using the analog stick and only going from down to forward down, you will subconsciously move to the forward, just like you are subconsciously moving to forward up right now.
If that doesnt work try using the D-pad on playstation
Smash player here interested in learning about other fighting games, this is really helpful
thanks :) I learned so much in the timing of the combos in the end part of your video by looking at your hand in the fightstick..now I know how to do combos..most videos on YT are not showing how they using there hand to the fightstick in the camera, its just legends like mp,qcf,etc..which is also good, but the timing is the most important part,.I hope you upload more videos regarding that..thanks again :)
Thank you , Sensei greetings from a Rookie from Switzerland
The man from the future. Thank you sensei!
Dude, thank you so much! This series of videos are incredibly helpful!
Holy hell, that double tap down forward shortcut is handy.
Awesome! Looking forward to more videos!
Just picked up your strategy guide in hopes of being able to hold my own online. Thanks for the useful information.
Thanks so much man. I'm a complete beginner to fighting games (other than Smash Bros, which is fairly different of course). Your guides are extremely helpful.

I'll give it a watch just because it's you.
Huge help, thank you. Onto part 2.
Thanks for the SF5 knowledge Gootecks.
Thanks goo! even as someone whos been playing since SF2 in 3rd grade lol I found lots of fun interesting content here.
Well, it's been three years now... please tell me you eventually figured it out, lol
This is exactly what i was looking for!! Thanks Man!!
This is gonna be pretty useful as I am new to the SF series
So great. thank you for the video, Gootecks!
Thank you so much for these series. helping a lot the newcomers. You should so a video about the community and tournaments also.
Awesome information, Thanks for putting this together!
Using this to help with SF6 since there aren’t any truly noob guides.
Workin on it!
I’m thankful for this video man. I’m literally doing it while I’m watching. U should do a video when SF6 comes out man it would be awesome. U definitely got my support 😀
Thank you, glad it helped! Hopefully I can make it happen for ya
Thank you so much for this video! It helped me so much! 1st year in a fighting game and this answered a lot of questions.
holy shit this is the pog guy
Thanks a lot gootecks , really helpful for a beginner like me.
awesome man, SF5 is the first fighter i've played since SF2 on sega...excited to learn and get decent at this genre =P thanks for the vid and info!

thank you gootecks for the video series u r the best man

Good stuff.
Loving the training videos! Looking forward to more
