    In this video I'm gonna show you a tutorial how to make a cobble stone street diorama base
    The Cromwell first saw action in the Battle of Normandy in June 1944. The tank equipped the armoured reconnaissance regiments, of the Royal Armoured Corps, within the 7th, 11th, and Guards Armoured Divisions. While the armoured regiments of the latter two divisions were equipped with M4 Shermans, the armoured regiments of the 7th Armoured Division were fully equipped with Cromwell tanks. The Centaurs were not generally used for combat except for those fitted with a 95mm Howitzer which were used in support of the Royal Marines during the invasion of Normandy.

    I like it. The stones look more naturally weathered and worn than other tutorials I've seen. I'm planning on making a warmachine table and molding this for streets seems like the way to go

    very very good job. Love the texture. I did something similar but wish i did it more like yours. Love the dry brush effect. I def should have done that with mine. I just did varying color variations with my airbrush and than stained it

    use a brush to get the black undercoat, that way you can get into the lines you scribed with the hobby knife. I learned this from trying to do casts from hirst arts molds with a rattle can.

    A few questions...
    1) What was the airbrush that you used and do you have any suggestions?
    2) How did you remove the clay after you pressed it down (so that you could glue it on)?
    3) How long did you leave the clay to dry?
    Cheers!

  • @Balakul
    @Balakul 10 років тому

    you should do just heavy black wash on the first place instead of spraying it.
    And this is how I would do it:
    - mix your clay with some plastic cement (glue you get from revell miniatures) it will make clay more resistant to crushes.
    - before start to painting give a dry out clay one last pva glue wash.

  • @TheSalemCrow
    @TheSalemCrow 10 років тому

    Nice work with the clay. Have you tried using insulation foam sheathing? You can get the same effect as carving into the clay without having to go through the process of applying and attaching the clay to the base. Here's one I did. Custom Dungeon Diorama

    Educational and very useful video for a beginner modeler like me, yet annoying and distracting high-pitched music at around 4:05. Luckily it just happened that one time. May I ask how you glue the clay to the base? I imagine the clay would break if you pick it up to make room for the glue application...

    • @MiniPainterV
      @MiniPainterV  9 років тому +1

      Those bricks who needed gluing I picked up carefully and put a small amount of PVA glue and then put it back down and let it dry. If the clay sits nicely on the base I wouldn't bother to glue it down :)

    • @tomassoejakto
      @tomassoejakto 9 років тому +1

      MiniPainterV
      ah... so it had to be picked up again... I suppose there isn't much alternative to that. Careful and thorough is the name of the game, right? ;-) And this is a great job with a straightforward process.
      If you don't mind my asking some more: the kind of hobby clay that's easily-available where I live are wax-based; rather oily to the touch, and also soft. So, I imagine paint would have a hard time sticking and drying on it. Plus it wouldn't stay in shape for a long time. If this is also the kind of clay you have, how do you get around the issues this type of clay has?
      Thanks again for the video and the reply :-)

    1) I use a cheap airbrush from a swedish shop called biltema.
    I'm a noob at airbrushing so I don't have any suggestions.
    2) My clay just came right off when i took it up. If it don't come right up then don't glue it.
    3) I waited about half an hour

      You can brushpaint the black also. You drybrush by taking your color onto the brush and then wipe most of it out on a paper towel so you have only a little bit left

    • @johnsmith-nl4gz

      it would wrk better if you used some sort of spray, the clay sets with a cracky texture paint would fill in that and not give at as much texture and make it look plastic, better to use a spray can or airbrush, and light drybrushers as he showed you keep the same texture,

    • @MajimeTV

    Have you ever observed a real cobbled street? The edges of the stones should be rounded, not sharp squares. Also, they are not placed staggered like a brick wall as in this video, they are placed in line, in both planes. Come on - there are plenty of real examples, and if you can' t see a real cobbled street, there are plenty of pictures to be found by simply googling.
