I am doing VDLP/Sanarbres in March/April 2025. I find you are my go-to UA-cam guy for figuring stuff out. Just enough that is for a degree of comfort without removing all the adventure. Thank you
Glad to hear it was useful Pete. Though I still missed (see comments) A. don't use white light at night B. keep phones on silent......... I might do one on Donativo Albergues next. They seem to confuse people a bit.......and others..........just don't seem to get it at all 🙂
Thanks again Rob for explaining to those who haven't been in an Albergue before. We also had our rucksacks steamed in a couple of Albergues to kill any bed bugs on them. The only other tip I would give is to have a small torch with you that has a 'red' setting as if you have to get up either early or for your toilet then that affects the other sleepers less than a white light. Buen Camino.
Steaming? Haven't seen that. Great tip on the small torch. I have a headlamp with a red setting, but thankfully once I'm asleep I tend not to get up in the night.
Lights! Do not switch on room Lights whilst People are still sleeping. Even torches can cause problems. Great tip, quietly pack up and get ready in the common area.
Just in time!! I'll be walking my first camino in two weeks and I was waiting for this video. Thank you, thank you, thank you! The things you explained and how you explained them really helped me 😊
As a light (poor?) sleeper and very early riser, the whole albergue thing is a bit of a concern for me, tho’ less so after watching this latest video. Thank you!
I avoided the communal sleeping areas for years for the same reason, but I found it was OK. Some places had small dorms that were good. Ultimately, I was tired. So I slept.
Yes, A good point. Small businesses will often find it hard to break larger notes. Though you should always feel comfortable with leaving larger notes in the Donativo Albergues ! 🙂
Hi Rob, thanks for all your hard work making these great Camino videos!!! Can you possibly update your Camera gear video of 3 years ago? Much appreciated. Also, I'm planning my first(!) Camino for Jubilee Year next year 2025 in Italy to walk part of Francigena into Rome. Do you have any referrals/ recommendations. Love you channel. Thanks 🙏 Maggie California 😎
I haven't walked the Francigena, sorry. I had a quick look at my previous camera gear video and to be honest it's much the same. My camera is my phone (Samsung Galaxy S22 Ultra). I try to shoot in 4k, but the rear camera only shoots 2k. But that's good enough. I use a Gorilla pod phone tripod. (smallest one) and I carry a Lav mic from Rode. All the same as previous video. Last time I did take 2 wireless mics in case I did some interviews, but I never used them. I don't like to 'set up' shots, but shoot 'in the moment'. So I don't really want to connect any accessories or even use a Camera App.
Maybe for another video but as a serial snorer, I experienced a lot of hostility. As a consequence, I booked as many single rooms as possible, which ups the budget, but experienced zero tolerance from peregrinos. Ends up no-one gets proper sleep. Ideas to resolve this issue?
Any questions on Albergues, just ask. Or maybe you have some tips?

Glad you find the channel useful. It gives me an excuse to talk about the Camino all the time! 🙂
Rob--thank you! This was the most complete description of the albergue process I have heard. Much appreciated!

Too, when paying for your stay, please do so in small euro notes if you can.

Good to know the camera gear details still work great. Thanks!
Please switch off phone notification bleeps at night!
Great point! And if using alarm put on silent!!

That's a tough one. I'll see what I can come up with
