I used to feel sorry for people like this. I learned that they always have excuses, feel sorry for themselves, and never want to change. I don't doubt that he had a bad childhood, but as an adult, he doesn't want to improve himself.

@@Fugubro754 it depends if it's true that he has mental illness because then it's another story when clinically proven. For example I know a family who's son with schizophrenia poisoned his mother because he wanted to go with her to heaven and not leave by himself letting her alone... Luckily he got out of it when she become sick and called ambulance. It's truly crazy but he did it in his delusion with good intent in mind.
I don't know this case but just saying it needs to be diagnosed if given person is really ill as they don't belong to prison, probably into psych ward etc.

It seems that if anything, there should be more reluctance to additionally sentence someone, when they attack such as a judge inside of a courtroom... just simply because a judge chooses to exposes themselves (as a means of their job) to people (defendant's or whomever...) that could harm them. Granted, although judges don't intend to put themselves in harm's way to a similar extent of that of a police officer... a police officer (bailiff or what not) is still present in the room too alongside the judge. That said (and just generally speaking...), Deobra had to have considered that his attack was going to be met with resistance. However, a minimum of a 26 YEAR sentence when Judge Holthus wasn't even hospitalized... and back to work the next day or so for that matter....

As someone who has mental health issues I get so mad when people use the mental health card to excuse their behavior.
This man, if he really cared about himself and others, should have been taking meds every day, getting therapy and taking responsibility for his actions.
One of the first "rules of life" I had to embrace, and live by, was mental illness does not excuse me or give me permission for bad behavior. No exceptions. It's no different than a diabetic skipping their insulin and getting upset about the damage done to their bodies. It's called accountability.

he may have schizophrenia; just because an offender says he hears voices or sees spirits doesn’t mean it’s true. Lots of offenders claim that to play the mental health card. But if he actually does have schizophrenia, he also clearly has a more prominent diagnosis of antisocial personality disorder. The combination of those two diagnoses creates a paranoid, violent individual who has no remorse, takes no responsibility for his actions, and who is unlikely to be rehabilitated.

He was dead wrong for attacking the judge but a life sentence doesn't fit. 5 years tops

All he had to do was accept his sentence do the 2 years likely less and be out and just not be violent but not even before the judge was handing down the sentence he proved why that wasn’t possible. And he’s sitting here wasting 8 minutes trying to explain himself. Not buying it

No excuses. His record shows a pattern. Lock him up for life, throw away the key. Judges lives matter.

Courts don't deal in terms of good people or bad people. They deal with criminal acts committed by people regardless of their moral alignment. And this guy clearly committed acts of violence while motivated by anger. But I see so many criminals protest that they are not bad people like that matters at all.

Always wonder what makes a person this way. Life is really an anomaly, and the fact that some people happen to end up a certain way is just so wild. It's so unfortunate that his one life has been wasted.

If Deobra Redden would've attacked a regular civilian, he would probably only have to do 1 year in jail. I love judges and police have special treatment when it comes to protecting their safety.

Wait, did he seriously get up to 65 years just for attacking a judge in court? Is this for real? What a joke!! Judges dont even give that to people who SA multiple children, women, or actually outright unalive someone!!! How full of themselves can they be? I cant believe people are applauding this egotistical nonsense.

Notice how he downplays jumping over an ASSAULTING the judge . He says he wanted to grab her garment and ask her why she was doing that to him…….. under the same breath he’s outraged that the state claims he’s not remorseful 🤦🏾‍♀️ He’s not remorseful not or apologetic. But 25 years is overkill .

25 years for attacking, someone is ridiculous, but since it was a judge, they want to give him over 25 years ??? That is crazy. I guarantee if he attacked a regular person it definitely wouldn’t of been not even half of that. It wouldn’t even been a quarter of that but since it was a judge, they wanna give him more ??? But they don’t keep the same energy when cops kill innocent people all the time!!! And he didn’t even kill anyone he literally assaulted her. Yes it was 1000% wrong. I’m not trying to stand up for what he did but to get that many years for one incident and no one was even seriously hurt during that incident that is ridiculous that is literally mind blowing to me!!! Smh!!!

  • @almutstarke1344

They can do all 'the soft talk' whem they are concerned about their own centences... he has no remorse... because he was furious about the sentence she gave him and he decided in a split second to trow all his revenge and anger on her abd attacked her... and he did! And he ment it as he did it! Imo he is a danger to society and he remains a danger to society... l hope that sentence will give justice for the judge and the other victims from of what he did !!!!
