Wow. There are many true interpretations of the same movements and this guy just showed 2 cool things I did not understand but now I do. I train Taekwondo but when I go for applications I always look at Karate for more older understanding.
MaharlikaAWA I trained in TKD for several years, and it is really just Korean Karate, despite what some Koreans claim TKD comes from Shotokan introduced during the Japanese ocupation.
There are no practical applications known in Taekwondo, because of it's historic start as high school karate in Japan. There are 24 forms, I have never seen practical applications that weren't cobbled together by an enthusiast somewhere. Not that that isn't fascinating too. However it is not like Wing Chun or Tai Chi, where every application is known.
1:38 I've been on the receiving end of that wrist lock, and I know from experience that you will go down. The three reasons why his partner did not end up with a broken wrist is 1. The guy demonstrating did it slow, 2. the partner had really good wrist conditioning and 3. he rolled with the technique. This is why you cannot demonstrate these techniques on someone you don't know or trust to have prior physical conditioning. Your partner will be wearing a cast on his arm the next day.
Yeah right.. your really gonna pull out a graceful circular motion with your hands as you receive an uppercut!! .. all those moves require a static, co operating- demo partner. They'd also coil up the moment you start stroking their wrist with that nonsense. Wouldn't work.
yeah whats next katas and shadow boxing don't work because there is no ''real opponent'' its just a highly isolated technique to demonstrate functionality. chill.
I think in this case id agree with bh...an uppercut is not usually seen coming at all and i can say this because i have very very little experience in boxing yet when i took some classes and starting doing some light sparring with the instructor who had us doing some fairly basic drills and i threw an uppercut , my fav of all boxing techniques i knocked him on his ass, so if could manage that then an exp street fighter or even a boxer would take out tma guy given the right moment in time
We can incisive about the usefulness of these techniques in a real fight, but we can also recognize that the demo-attacker must roll with the moves, or his wrist or elbow will torque and break.
It is wonderful that each new method we learn allows us to view previous techniques and mindsets with deeper and broader perspective.

-light sparing
-knocked him on his ass.
you are either lying or an awful sparing partner.
